Introduction

Hi, I’m Tulip. You may be familiar with my main blog (@shytulipghost). I made this blog to post only my art.

Here, you will find sketchbook drawings, doodles and digital art.

I’m just a beginner, so please don’t be rude if you want to give criticism. Please don’t repost my art either.

Last week, I read "The Masque of the Red Death" and I felt compelled to make two pieces of fanart for some reason (it's a good story, but it's not my favourite one written by Poe).

The power was out when I began the sketch, so I tried to draw from imagination. The hat is based on what I vaguely remembered of the "Red Death" costume from the Phantom of the Opera musical (I originally wanted to give it/him something fancy to contrast with the creepy mask), but I plan to remove it for the digital version.

I also was a bit indecisive whether to give it a skeleton mask or make it look like a corpse (you might have noticed I drew it similar to how I draw the 100 demons, with the Red Death looking bony).

As for the figurine, the only difficult part was to make the shape of the skull.

Here are more pictures of it (I took more, but Tumblr kept flagging the draft as mature, so these are the only ones I'm able to share):

I had fun taking these and putting the flashlight in different angles to get certain effects. I like how the third one looks like something you would find in a horror game (kinda looks like a red Uboa).

For the last one, I wanted to recreate the ending of the story, but I could only take the picture in one specific part of my desk that had a red light, so I struggled to take a clear picture while crouching and holding the flashlight with my other hand.

Surprisingly, my internship has been very chill so far. I assumed I was gonna get loaded with work, but I was only given one task so far (I'm doing it remotely, so I just have to work with documents and follow the style guide and other instructions).

While I'm waiting for a new email, I started to sketch what I'm gonna draw for October. For this year's illustration, I want to give it a painterly feel, so for practice, I tried out different brushes to see which ones were better for blending.

This isn't what I'm going to draw for Halloween, but it is another thing I want to make for October and might help me practice.

I still have to figure out what I'm gonna draw for the background. I'll share some ideas in a reblog.

Who needs a lighter when you can use fire magic

(She'll still have to buy a lighter for him, so he can cook meals when he's alone.)

It was about time that I finally started making drawings related to Paloma and Saúl's relationship, so some details in their character bios will make sense in the future. Both of their casual outfits are done, so at least I can draw comics that take place in Paloma's apartment.

This comic takes place during Saúl's first week on Earth, when he is starting to get used to his new home.

I might do the other comics traditionally because it's easier for me to draw in my sketchbook than in Krita (but, I will admit, it's probably easier to draw backgrounds digitally because you can copy and paste it). I tried to ink this comic with a normal black pen, but some details got ruined, so next time I'll just use a pencil.

The good thing about being a beginner artist is that you're not expected to already be perfect and you don't have a lot of eyes on you, so you don't have to put a lot of pressure on yourself (well, at least that's my personal experience). You just have to make your ideas come to life one way or another. It may not be the best thing in the world, but you finally managed to share that one thing that has been in your mind for a while.

Weird art and OC doodles I drew this week

I find the contrast between both images a bit funny.

I drew the left page three days ago when I was anxious about something personal and, yesterday, I was beginning to draw the right page when I finally received some good news, so that page ended up having happier doodles.

Although I finished making Paloma's witch outfit, there was one more thing I needed to draw: her broomstick.

So here are three possible designs:

Version 1 is based on your typical witch's broom.

Version 2 is meant to have a similar colour palette as Paloma and it has some feathers at the bottom of the broom (I wanted to include the pigeon motif I had put in her dress).

Version 3 is similar to the previous one, but this time the bird motif is more obvious. Basically, it's a long feather duster.

Before I make a poll, I would like to know your opinions. Do you have any suggestions to improve one of them? Do you have another idea for a broom design?

I got back to designing her broomstick. These ones are based on your suggestions:

I tried not to make it overly detailed, so it's easier to draw next time.

My personal favourites are 4, 4A, 5, 7 and 10.

I finally had time to draw, so I made some doodles on Wigglypaint (I remembered it while watching a YouTube short).

And Giygas from Earthbound/Mother 2 (I made two versions because at first I wasn't sure which one looked better):

"You barely grasped the true form of Giygas." 😂 (There is probably someone out there who had the same idea and did a better job than me).

Although I finished making Paloma's witch outfit, there was one more thing I needed to draw: her broomstick.

I finished making the Sans figurine:

The most difficult part was the hood because I wanted it to look as realistic as possible.

Although the figurine is finished and stuck to the base, I still have to make sure it doesn't lean forward.

My brother's birthday is coming up, so I started to make the Sans figurine I promised him months ago.

Obviously, he asked me to make him with his Megalovania pose.

I'll stick the arm with glue tomorrow.

I'll probably have to make a base so he can stand once he's finished. I might make one shaped like a bone or a Gaster Blaster.

Uh, I don't know. There are tons of words...

Probably the word "excellent" because of the huge positive feeling you get when someone says it to you for something you made or did well.

Design process for Paloma's witch outfit - Part 3

(Part 1 and part 2)

My idea for the witch outfit is that it gives the idea of pigeons/doves through its form and colour. I had a list of possible pigeons I could use as inspiration, but I just chose three.

Option 1: based on the wood pigeon

Option 2: based on the white breasted ground dove

Option 3: based on the pale-vented pigeon

These are the ones that turned out great in my opinion:

I'll see which one complements Saúl's outfit better and that will be my final decision.

Okay, I've made my decision. This is her witch outfit:

I chose this one because it looks more pigeon-like to me and I like how both of them have capes. Also, the shade of purple I used for this dress fits better compared to the other ones.

And, in case you're curious, here's how she looks like next to her casual version:

Although both designs are based on the same bird, I had to use different palettes for each of them, so they would look nice on their own.

Before I can finish the witch outfit, I need to decide what Paloma's casual outfit is going to look like, so I drew three possible options:

(Saúl is there to see how much their outfits complement each other).

Option 1: pastel colours

Option 2: based on the rock dove/common pigeon

Option 3: based on the wood pigeon

I might choose this one because it's visually prettier and represents her personality much better. I like to imagine that, for autumn and winter, she would wear this jacket.

I might try out using the wood pigeon as inspiration for the witch outfit as well because I like the colour palette.

Design process for Paloma's witch outfit - Part 2

I used the sketches from part 1 and made possible versions of her dress. Out of the 28 combinations I made, these are the ones I liked the most:

I'm not gonna make a poll yet because I need to see how good they look with colour, but feel free to tell me which one is your favourite so far.

Design process for Paloma's witch outfit - Part 1

My idea for the outfit is that it alludes to doves and also looks like a princess' dress (I'll explain why in the thought process post about her). I had tons of references, so I drew these sketches.

The next thing I have to do is mix and match them on Krita and choose the best combinations.

I struggled with version 7 of the top because I found it confusing to draw the back of the ruffle cape, which is a shame because I like how it gives the idea of wings.

I started designing Paloma three days ago and drew possible shirts she could use for her casual outfit (I chose the second one).

She looked better when I gave her a more rounded head, so I decided to give her a similar body type to Saúl's.

I'm now working on her witch outfit, which is going to be difficult because there are many possibilities.
