summary: the us is trying to pass a anti-trans youth bill, that will affect the entire nation, ironically named the “Protect Kids Act” (H.R. 2616). this bill bans all federally funded schools from teaching kids about gender identity or sexual orientation, prevent teachers from using correct pronouns of trans students, remove books with any trans characters, and prevent teachers from acknowledging trans people exist. any school that doesn’t follow this will lose all federal funding. even worse, this bill would require teachers to forcibly out trans students to their families. this requirement does not take into account the extreme risk of violence it would put the student in. the bill rapidly passed the house with support from all 209 republicans and 8 democrats. this bill is still being voted on in the senate, so there is still time to contact your senators to oppose this bill. you can do this by visiting 5calls.org.
my final words: trans rights are still human rights, and it is so insane to me that we have to keep fighting for them. visiting 5calls.org will take 5 minutes of your time, and it will help so many people in your community.
