stormfur trying to socialize knows that guy friends sometimes rib on each other so attempts to imitate that except he doesnt really get it and so randomly will say something very cruel he doesnt mean

him and hawkfrost sit face to face and insult each other every night before bed and stormfur is like wow #malefriendship and hawkfrost is like wow i wonder how long he'll let me get away with this

stormfur tells feathertail that no one will ever love them because of what theyve been through so they need to stick together. and still thinks of himself as a good brother. btw he did this because he saw feathertail playing with ferncloud over the border

shitty stormfur behavior:

he acts like hes the only one who is allowed friends. he takes it upon himself to be sociable because its necessary to secure their place in the clan. but he distrusts and resents every one of them just as much if not more than feathertail. he thinks this just applies to riverclan but he actually pathologically fears every single cat other than feathertail and mistyfoot.

so when he sees feathertail talking to (let alone getting along) with another cat he immediately jumps in and sabotages it, thinking he is protecting her.

she is more okay with it than she should be.

and the thing is that stormfur does not do a very good job. he is respectable and polite but off-putting and never smiles or laughs. you tell him a joke and he just stares at you blankly.

and the thing about feathertail is that shes naturally quite likeable. she speaks her mind, and is always herself, and even if its grating for her clanmates its undeniably charismatic. she is also kind. and brave. okay she is very likeable to me. il ove you feathertail (i also love stormfur too just as much)

also she could easily rip stormfur a new one if she wanted to but they treat each other with a strange delicacy because they both believe the other to be too fragile. except it pisses them both off. but also they wont stop.

i wonder if i will ever understand feathertail and stormfur. maybe not. i will not read the books under any circumstance. so inevitably theyre not based on the books but my own bad memory and contradicting fandom opinions. which means they are spiraling into nothing. maybe. they would be ocs except they arent they are too much of themselves to be. so can they be understood? cool thing about fiction is infinite depth. it does not really matter. my cute little children.

feathertail wont stop peeling off stormfurs scabs. he keeps batting her paws away so she does it when he falls asleep on the couch and he wakes up with a yell + bleeding

feathertail inherited her fathers academic sensibilities. which is to say never show up. stormfur does her homework for her because he doesnt want her to fail and she hates this and wishes he would stop and also value his time better. because seriously dude, staying up late to do homework? the thing is that its not even worth much because stormfur himself is only passing by the skin of his teeth, even though he tries his best. feathertail shows up for a test week and get a perfect scores.

stormfur is a trans guy, feathertail is a trans girl.

he detransitions in order to comply with what riverclan wants of him, which is for him to be a surrogate silverstream. yes he throws up bile because of this. but he endures because he thinks its the noble, selfless thing to do. carry on and honor his mother's legacy. (its not what she wouldve wanted, but he has no way of knowing that), (riverclan misinterpreted her silverstreams entire life and now feeds her son that misinterpretation) (she is screaming in cat heaven).

feathertail is very out and very outspoken. corrects her clanmates everytime they misgender her, no matter the reaction it gets her. this is because she hates the idea of fitting into the system that tried to kill her, and is half daring them to try it again. kinda a self destructive nihilism except it is also very sincere; she dreams of self sacrifice, of pinning all the hatred of the world unto herself so that whoever comes after her gets to live as a good example to her bad one. theyll never hate anyone again as much as they hate her.

despite their intentions, feathertail is happier than stormfur.

he subtly behaves like feathertail is selfish for this. but she is also his beacon of hope. but also he is allergic to hope because it reminds him that his life doesnt have to be as shitty as it is, and he is not brave enough to change it. this is because he is constantly afraid of bonehill 2.0. which is also why he is trying to pressure feathertail into compliance, for her own safety.

feathertail resents her brother, but pities him more, and will always forgive him. hes the one she'd always die for. she wants him to transition, affirms him both when theyre alone (which he secretly appreciates) and when theyre in public (which mortifies him). she knows though, that no matter how lonely they feel, there will always be more like them. both halfclan and transgender. so even if he wont change she'll still behave how she does.

mistyfoot is a butch lesbian who probably wouldve been a transgender man but those labels just didnt exist back in their day. supports them both but thinks its too late for themself.

stormfur thinks that suicide is a moral failure. its a selfish decision that only quitters make. also its not his to make, because his body and his personhood do not belong to him, but his clan and the people that care about him. this does not save him from staring longingly at every car that crosses the thunderpath.

feathertail thinks that suicide is an act of bravery, a middle finger to everyone trying to control her and her body. taking her death into her own hands instead of letting herself be slowly killed by life. this does not save her from the terror of dying, the instinctual hesitation at the edge of the cliff.

stormfur has been working shitty minimum wage since age 11 and fantasizes about running into the distance to become a monk in a village monastery. feathertail cannot keep a job and fantasizes about moving to the capital and becoming an underpaid first responder and giving herself ptsd. neither of them want to treat their issues. both of them want ego death

after returning to riverclan featherpaw writes a creepypasta self-insert story where she kills her whole clan and her father and then gets the cool alt clothes she cant afford. stormpaw finds it and doesnt say anything but treats her like a landmine for a few weeks. she eats a shawarma a little too messily and he stares at her thinking like, that sauce might be blood in a few weeks.... and shes like ? why arent you eating? and he's lost his appetite

he constructs an entire elaborate plan in his mind. he'll take the fall. he'll burn it all down behind them and fake their deaths. they'll never find them. what other choice does he have? this is his only sister. but what will mistyfoot think?

eventually he gets over it and forgets. she figures it out a few years later going through his old journals. at first shes angry but by the next day she thinks its incredibly funny and wont stop ribbing him about it.

hes like. how does she know. and then realizes that she went through his stuff and pops a blood vessel but he knows hes not really allowed to be mad because well thats what he did

after feathertail dies the only way stormfur can cope with it is by taking her interests and opinions and behavior into his own instead of always living reactionarily against her. and this is called character development
