“The Few Hair Styles I’ve Had - Part 1″
I don’t really do anything impulsive/cool to my hair. This took years of built-up courage and planning to finally do. I asked my mom - a barber/hairstylist - to do it, the summer before my third year in uni. It was great because it was HOT that summer, and the shave provided some nice ventilation. All of those panels are true, though. I would sit on busses that were super crowded and no one wanted to sit next to me because I looked “scary”(?) I did get a handful of people that complimented me on the style and say that I inspired them to do it (thank you, random people ;-;)
For the most part, I didn’t let what people said get to me, but sometimes, I’d hear comments of people keeping tabs on my hair, or people saying that I was “going through a phase” - like what the heck does that even mean, I didn’t ask them for their opinion. For music auditions and certain performances/interviews/teachings, I would part it to the other side to cover up the fact that I had a shave, just so I didn’t leave an opening for judgement. For the majority of the time, I wore my hair in a low bun or ponytail (yes, this destroyed my “iconic” high bun and pencils”) and lived my life.
I eventually grew it out, because the maintenance was too much for me, and OH BOY MY FRIENDS IT TOOK SO LONG AND IT WAS SO ANNOYING. Imagine a little tuft of hair just sticking out of the right side of your head for months lol. Also, the asymmetry got to me - it looked dope, and it definitely looks dope on other people, I just needed to go back to an all around even length.
