This is a pot I created for my ceramics handbuilding class, approx 1 ft tall. Based on neolithic pottery and painted with an homage to the cavepaintings in Lascaux.

Dan and Phil Against the Universe (a space adventure)

"Venus" of Willendorf. ceramic stoneware, approx 4". part of a series inspired by art history

I made this piece, taking the form of the Woman of Willendorf, a 23,000 year old stone sculpture (commonly called Venus), and putting it in the pose seen in Boticelli's The Birth of Venus (1485). The shell was based on a fossil species found in the same area as the artifact.

This piece is a critique on the labeling of this paleolithic piece as "Venus," a Greco-Roman figure who would not emerge for thousands of years. It's a commentary on the tendency in archaeology to impose modern and western ideas onto other cultures unilaterally.

In celebration of the 7 year anniversary of Basically I'm Gay, I typeset the transcript and bound myself a little BIG book <3

This has been an undertaking and a half (.....most of the time was probably sewing on the sequins) but I am so happy with how it turned out! It's my second real bookbinding creation (so there are some technical things that could have gone better BUT) I'm beyond thrilled with it and so happy to have something physical to celebrate this video that's meant so much to me over the years. Happy pride everyone :]
