Insensate nerves dissipate charge, unspooling potential in squandered chemical gradients disrupted and pickled by drenched bile. Channels deform and denature in the sun, heat cooking and baking, scrambling and mutilating, shearing away more structure, shattering bonds and loosening sinew, crisping what few delicate structures remain into shrivelled gauze that shrouds and sloughs from uncracked joints, sockets yellowing under the ultraviolet assault, fatty caps peeling away and turning transparent at the edges. Discernible features shiver and balloon past the limits of recognition, matter weeping and browning across contours and planes that once held an identity.
