Here’s my shop link ❤️ thank you so much for sharing!
Hey besties! Not sure who still follows me here, but I’m moving across the country soon and need to get rid of some of my many, many altar supplies and rocks. Like this post if you’d be interested in a little flash sale of stuff from my personal collection! Would include stones, jewelry items, ritual tools, seasonal altar decor, and a few odds and ends I’ve picked up that are no longer serving me. And of course everyone would get a little custom sigil with their order!
Someone asked about Silver Ravenwolf, so I answered
so, in the interest of full disclosure, Silver Ravenwolf was the author that helped get me into witchcraft at the age of 17. It’s one of those things a lot of people will shamefully admit, and there’s a reason for that.
She’s also very prolific. She’s written a lot of books and a lot of ‘new age’ sections at book stores (I think there’s other terms for this now but you get my drift) are CHOCK full of SRW books, meaning it’s difficult to find more serious and well-researched books- bookstores have limited space.
The other problem is that her writing is very... hm, easily digestible, I think. If you’re not knowledgeable about the history of the modern witchcraft movement, she seems very authoritative, and she’s skilled at giving content in a way that is easy to take in, if that makes sense.
Her books are also- probably I would say the best way to put it would be non-threatening. The ideas that they present, especially in the beginner witchcraft books she has written, are all explained in a very reasonable tone and are honestly, in many cases, just a step or two outside of mainstream Christianity- and in several cases she talks about how to integrate witchcraft into Christianity.
The tone is very- like, it could be your aunt talking to you, that kind of thing. And that works on a lot of people.
If she did her research and cited her sources and was, like, not racist, she’d be a fucking amazing resource to offer to witches, because explaining things in a way that’s easily digestible and not too challenging is a skill, being a prolific writer in a niche genre is a gift.
(If you’re into fanfiction, you know that when you have a small fandom or follow a rarepair, it’s often a relief to find someone just putting out tons of content for that niche. Even if they’re not the best, when you lack a lot of content you lower your standards, and she has been publishing for a long time, pre-internet days, she was one of your few choices if you were getting into witchcraft.)
She’s unavoidable, she’s easily digestible, she’s not too challenging, and she’s provably wrong, and racist, and refuses to change.
(I personally feel like she’s the one largely responsible for the general idea that the three times three thing and the wiccan rede should be broadly applied to all witches, which Trae has talked about at length in other places so I won’t go into detail here, but I hold her at least partly responsible for that shit.)
She also includes instructions on her blog on performing some gross butchered form of Kabbalah rituals.
KABBALAH IS A CLOSED PRACTICE.
Traditionally, you must be a married Jewish man over the age of 40 to study Kabbalah. More recent sensibilities have it that any gender can study Kabbalah, but it’s still considered absolutely imperative that you have a strong grounding in Jewish education, history, and thought before you begin Kabbalah study. I have been discouraged (gently) from beginning Kabbalah study because I haven’t studied any Talmud yet, and my Hebrew skills aren’t up to scratch. I literally do not have the skillset to begin Kabbalah AND I AM JEWISH. She’s over here like “the Qabalistic rituals” (that is not how you transliterate it, at all, ever) and “Yeshua” and whatever else.
The Hebrew language is not your “magic sacred alphabet.” Kabbalah is not an all-you-can-eat buffet. This is just wholesale disgusting appropriation of a closed practice belonging to a persecuted people.
Ugh, just seeing her name body-slammed me back into my teens. God she was and remains everywhere in neo-pagan circles. Like a bad penny cemented into the sidewalk.
Crash course on fake stones/misrepresentations
Because I have been too lazy to type this all up.
Quartz:
If your quartz has teeny air bubbles it’s glass.
If it’s got a fruit name it’s dyed. End of story. (strawberry, cherry, lemon, pineapple, blueberry) yes there may be some very rare exceptions-fire quartz being dubbed strawberry- but due to the rise in fakes with that name it’s generally called fire quartz now.
Aura quartz is a regular quartz that’s been bonded with another material. (man made)
Cinnabar Infused Quartz usually reconstituted and mixed together to make a red crystal.
Green quartz can be grown in a lab and anything that forrest green color is
Turquoise:
Magnesite and howlite look very very similar to turquoise when they’ve been dyed, magnesite will have very deep cracks in it though.
No there is no white turquoise.
You can do a uv test to see if it’s real
Amber
Often faked with Copal. They look nearly identical.
Amber will float in salt water-copal will not.
Irradiated/dyed stones:
Very vibrant colors!!
Irradiated: (they irradiate the crystals to get a deeper or more vibrant color)
deeply pigmented topaz or kunzite
dark (almost black) smokey quartz
very deep pink or red tourmaline
colored diamonds
some cultured pearls
vibrant yellow heliodor
Dyed:
Pearls
Agate
coral
other stones may be dyed as well, generally if it looks fake..it is.
Heat treated stones: (really not a bad thing but if you’re going for natural)
Amethyst-lighten color+remove brown
Citrine-heat treated amethyst.
Aquamarine-remove green
Ruby-clearer stone
Sapphire-clearer stone
Rainbow Cal-Silica
Nope, completely fake 100%
Literally just car paint layered with calcite and resin.
Citrine: (im so sorry)
Much of the citrine on the market is lab made.
If it’s lab made it’s usually amethyst that’s been heated until it changes color
The bottom of these stones will be white with more color at the tips.
srry
Lapis Lazuli:
High quality is vibrant blue, hard to come by, and very expensive.
Low quality howlite, jasper or sodalite is dyed blue, and passed off as lapis.
Acetone will remove the dye but damage the stone.
Obsidian:
The clear green obsidian you see all over ebay is slag glass.
Natural green obsidian has been found but it is opaque and is more gray than green.
there is red obsidian as well but again, it’s not a vibrant red and is more brick colored.
Wikipedia is not always right.
Goldstone:
it’s glass it’s legitimately just glass
Opalite:
also glass.
real opalite exists but it’s green and not commonly found
once again, don’t believe everything on wikipedia.
Bismuth:
Doesn’t naturally form in the crystals, lab made!!!
rlly pretty though
Hematite:
Not naturally magnetic!
Magnetic hematite is 100% man made!
I’ll add more as I come across them~
Jade:
Real jade is p. heavy! A way to tell if it is real is that it’ll be heavier than it looks.
Jade is faked with the following:
Serpentine “New Jade” or “Olive Jade”
Prehnite
Aventurine quartz
Grossular garnet “Transvaal jade”
Chrysoprase “Australian jade”
Malaysia Jade- dyed quartz that may be called by its color – Red Jade, Yellow Jade, Blue Jade
Opaque dolomite marble “Mountain Jade” (usually dyed)
Dragon vein agate:
Quench cracked, bleached, and dyed agate and some is quench cracked, and dyed glass.
Snowflake obsidian:
Being faked with a very low grade cheap dalmatian jasper.!
Snowflake will be gray while Dalmatian should have a lighter color
Hollow galena:
A lot of pieces have been proven to have been faked through sand blasting + similar techniques (but there may be real ones I’m not 100%)
Charoite:
Chinese Charoite doesn’t exist.
If it’s called that then it’s not real, real charoite isn’t banded and is more swirly.
Moldavite:
Very very commonly faked!!
Biggest giveaway is the ‘wet’ look a faked piece has due to the molding process
White moldavite doesn’t exist!!
Sunspar:
It’s really just yellow Labradorite, which isn’t a v rare gem
ALSO!
Andara Crystal
no such thing
massive scam
literally chunks of slag glass, worth like, .1% of what they are sold for
Note that the manmade nature of any of these stones doesn’t negate the fact that they’re pretty and/or really cool to work with. Personally, goldstone is one of my favorite stones to work with. The copper crystals within the glass connect it to Venus, for me, while the colors (blue and red) are representative of Urania and Prometheus respectively–the latter even more fitting because of the fire that goes into making it.
Similar feelings about Bismuth and opalite. The rainbow crystal formations of a lab-formed piece of bismuth remind you of Iris? Go for it! Just…don’t let someone tell you it’s natural and get away with it.
A Spell to Protect BLM Protesters
Although magic is no substitute for genuine activism, not all of us are able to attend protests, donate money, or even be outspoken about our support. This spell allows you to magically lend your energy to the cause.
What you will need:
a sheet of white, red, or black paper
a black pen
a protection oil, a protective essential oil like myrrh or rosemary, or salt water
Performing the Ritual:
Write the words “Black Lives Matter” in the center of your paper. As you do so, visualize these words forming a connection between yourself and the protesters who are a part of the movement.
Draw a circle around the words, moving your pen counterclockwise.
Say: “I cast protection around those protesting on behalf of the Black Lives Matter movement. They are under my protection from anyone who would do them harm or oppose their goals.”
If you work with sigils, runes, or some other kind of magical symbols, feel free to incorporate symbols for protection and power into your circle.
Take a little bit of your oil or salt water on the tip of your index finger and use it to anoint the circle at each of the four cardinal points (north, east, south, west), starting at the top of the circle and moving clockwise.
Say, “May this [oil/salt] protect those protesting on behalf of the Black Lives Matter movement. May it shield them from harm and surround them with a wall of protection and light.”
Focus your energy on the paper, and visualize the protests going on around the country right now. Focus on sending your energy to those protests to protect and support those participating.
I’m a Reiki practitioner, so when I did this spell I also incorporated a distance Reiki session to send Reiki energy to those protesting, and to add an extra layer of protection. If you practice any kind of energy work, that would be a beautiful thing to incorporate into this spell.
If you worship any deities associated with justice, feel free to call on them during this ritual.
Finally, if you have an altar, fold up your paper and place it on your altar once you finish the spell. Keeping the paper in a sacred space will allow it to keep receiving energy, and you can come back to pray for/send energy to protesters again in the future.
What to do next
If you can, donate to organizations that contribute to the cause, like Black Visions Collective, Reclaim the Block, or a similar local organization.
If you can’t donate, raise awareness on social media and in real life. (For my fellow white folks: try to focus on sharing stories from POC, rather than talking over them. Yes, we should use our privilege to raise awareness, but we should do that in a way that keeps the focus on those who are directly affected by the issue.)
IF YOU ARE ATTENDING A PROTEST, be smart and be safe. Keep your face covered, don’t talk to reporters, don’t take pictures (especially if you use iCloud!), stay the fuck away from anyone with a camera, and don’t post about it on social media.
I call upon Tyr to grant justice for George Floyd and everyone killed by those who oppress
I call upon Freyja to grant strength to those protesting the injustice
And I call upon Odin to grant victory to those fighting the oppression
Miel de pissenlit or « Cramaillotte » (Dandelion Honey)
One of my fondest childhood memories involves the making of dandelion honey, called miel de pissenlit in French, or « cramaillotte » - plucking flowers on a sunny afternoon with my parents and sisters, filling our basket with yellow fluff smelling of pollen, and coming back home to pour everything in a giant copper pot. The whole house smelled of warmth, summer, and liquid sunshine for days. Miel de pissenlit, is gold in a jar. The subtle flavor proves excellent as a stomach disorder remedy and to cure sore throats in the winter. It is a deeply generous and comforting substance, soothing as honey, and with pretty much the same applications.
Dandelion honey makes great offering for land spirits, faes, ancestors, and solar gods alike. In Ireland, dandelion flowers were said to be sacred to Brighid, called breanan Brìde or « the little notched of Brìde ». Here I invoked Her to bless the produce at each and every step of the process, imbuing it with healing qualities. Some jars will be gifted to friends, some will be kept for us, but I made sure to save a full jar just for Her, pouring the honey over some yarrow and juniper.
You will need :
- 500-800 dandelion flowers
- 2,5L of clear water
- 3 oranges
- 2 lemons
- 2,5kg of granulated sugar
Recipe :
1. Fetch a dandelion field sheltered from cars, dogs and children. You want to pick the right time, when the flowers are most open, to pluck your dandelions : between 11am-2pm is best. Keep only the flower heads.
2. Come quickly home, before your flowers start closing. You will need to proceed to the leaf removal : remove the flower petals and leave the green flower crown behind to keep only the yellow part of your flower. Gently brush aside any insect that may be caught still in your harvest. This step is the more tedious, yet the more important : removing the green part ensures the good taste of your honey, with no bitterness.
3. Cast your flowers in a cooker (traditionally, a big copper pot or basin you can heat over fire is in order, but we make do with modern means !). The secret is to not pre-wash your flowers to keep all their pollen in, hence why you wanna be cautious with the place you pick them from. Cover them with the water and the juices from the oranges and lemons. Boil for 45-60min, checking your water and flowers level, and adding more water if necessary. Turn off the heat, and cover for the night to let your flowers infuse. The longer you live it, the better. Aim for at least 12h.
4. The day after, proceed to filter the flowers. You can do that by hand, pressing the petals delicately to draw all juice out, or by putting them in a muslin cloth. You should be left with a clear yellow juice.
5. Add your sugar, and put to a boil. Once your honey starts producing consistent bubbles and foaming, the cooking time varies greatly. Count at least 45min up to 2,5h for your honey to set. The quantity will reduce, leaving you with anything from 1/2 to 2/3 of your initial quantity. You can test the cristallisation of your honey by dropping a bit in a cold dish and holding it vertically above your sink or counter : if your honey runs like water, it is still too liquid. If it sits and moves down slowly, like pearls dripping, it is the right consistency.
6. Bottle in clean, sterilized jars that you will put upside down to cool off : the heat of the produce will kill all bacterias from the lid. It should produce a faint « pop » sound once it’s sealed.
7. Store your honey in a cool, dark place, and keep in the fridge once open. The shelf life depends on the conservation area : in a cellar, it will be OK for a good year. In a cupboard, about 6 months.

Some thoughts on what witches can do in a pandemic
First of all, DO NOT encourage anyone to disregard mainstream medical advice. Go to a doctor if you’re sick and otherwise stay home to avoid infecting others, wash your hands regularly. That’s the first line. Witchcraft is supplemental here. If you’re going to use herbs to treat symptoms, make sure you know what your intended herbs actually do. Don’t just pick up something because it’s listed in your “magical correspondences” list as “healing”, or because it’s good for flu and you assume it’s also good against coronavirus, they’re not the same thing. Also make sure you’re not taking anything that would interact badly with medications you’re on, or other conditions you have. Remember that immune-stimulants aren’t always a good idea. Over-reaction of the immune system can cause more problems. A full primer on safe and responsible herbalism isn’t in the scope of this post but for fuck’s sake DO YOUR RESEARCH. Do not ingest essential oils or put them up your nose.
That said, herbs can be excellent for palliative care. I’m personally favoring horehound, mullein, thyme, red clover, and other herbs that support lung function and work as expectorants and/or antispasmodics to reduce coughing and congestion. Chamomile is contraindicated for high fevers, but for low fevers it can be beneficial as well. Lavender, mint, lemon balm, lemongrass, and rose are generally soothing and will help a horehound/thyme/mullein tea taste a lot better, without counteracting the main medicinal herbs. If you want to use horehound but can’t stand the bitterness unsweetened, I recommend honey or molasses as a sweetener for the best flavor experience. Panic has the potential to cause at least as many problems as the virus. Don’t contribute to that. In fact, if you’re able to do energy filtering or otherwise use your craft to help calm the general mood in your surroundings, that IS beneficial. Consider also, if you’re so inclined, binding spells against the virus itself to limit its spread. Healing spells for those already ill. Protection spells for those currently still healthy, particularly those most vulnerable to complications with respiratory infections. Hexes upon government officials who are all too ready to dump money into stock market stimulus that doesn’t even do any good, while voting against even emergency-measure paid sick leave/free healthcare/other actually-functional-at-containing-a-pandemic things. Most of all, be good to each other. Help people in your community where you can. And don’t hoard a year’s supply of toilet paper like a moron – it’s viral pneumonia, not zombies or Sudden Poop Explosion Disease.
First of all, DO NOT encourage anyone to disregard mainstream medical advice. Go to a doctor if you’re sick and otherwise stay home to avoid infecting others, wash your hands regularly. That’s the first line. Witchcraft is supplemental here.
Excellent advice! Re: healing tea - fresh lemon and ginger root with honey are great for soothing a sore throat. Add a pinch of cayenne to help ease congestion. Or you can simmer lemon slices, fresh ginger, chopped onion, and honey together to make a mild cough syrup. Rosemary and mint make great additives for the shower if you need to steam for a bit.
Also, make sure you take whatever OTC or off-the-shelf medications are appropriate for your symptoms, disinfect hard surfaces and frequently-touched items regularly, promptly dispose of used tissues, change your bedsheets, wash your hands, and HYDRATE HYDRATE HYDRATE!!!!
Stay safe out there!

Thanks for the inspiration @divineclaws ! Enjoy the sigil everyone, I'm putting this one in my tarot bag!
You do not have to look or present a certain way to be a 'real witch'.
Real witches are witches that study and practise witchcraft. It doesn't matter whether your favourite colour is black or pink. It doesn't matter what gender you identify as.
A witch, is a witch.

Calls and Charges
A call is an invitation to an deity (or spirit) to attend a ritual, and it’s a part of some witch rites. Charges are good to use in place of a call, if the mood strikes. (The word charge is actually an old masonic term and refers to a set of instructions.)
