“So, you come on behalf of your leader? I have to say, Pedrosa is smart, if unavoidably a nuisance. My reasoning for withdrawing from the conflict for a short period of time is classified. I thought he would enjoy the little ‘vacation’ I granted him so willingly. Am I to assume he wants turmoil?”
Chase eyed Lux for a second before turning his eyes from her, now in thought. He could be cruel, and purposefully make a statement by forging an attack on the Temple. He despised being singled out for no logical reason.
“Assess all you’d like,” he finally answers her. “But you will see I’ve nothing to hide.”
“No, I am not here on behalf of Pedrosa.” the Dragon of Sound says Rai’s name in a perfect mimic of how Chase had said it, expressing his disdain and annoyance. “I thought maybe you’d hung up the armour and spiky underwear and decided to retire to that casino of yours like old men do. Since you’re so defensive, I take it that’s not the case.”
Lux had never told the others about Chase’s casino after she’d discovered it. She’d thought - maybe she’d hoped - that the casino was his way of turning over a new leaf. She didn’t want to ruin that by having her friends poking around for evil lairs.
Chase is here in his evil lair, though. With his cats that were once human but are now his slaves. Clearly Lux was wrong. There’s no new leaf in sight. Just an evil dragon lord in hibernation.
“Sorry for the intrusion, then.” Lux turns her back on Chase. How ridiculous to come here hoping for a changed man. How completely foolish of her.
