I signed the papers and turned in my badge today. It was a bit of a quest because I had to find the IT department and turn in papers, then go to borrowers' services and change my status, then go to the security office to hand over my badge. My last stop was Human Resources to turn in my paper with all the collected signatures.
I ran into Jerry at the AV department and I stopped to say good bye. Now that I think about it, it feels almost like coming to a full circle. I met Jerry when I started working at the Parkside Branch as a wee little youth intern. I was probably 16. He left for a better position after I started working as page, but he was one of the nicest guys I ever worked with. If he had been younger, I'd totally have a crush on him. How crazy is that? When someone you knew when they were tiny grows up and leaves the nest.
Ten years! It doesn't sound like much when I say it, but when I think about all the things that happened, the people I met, the goals I accomplished.....wow. Ten years is a long time. I graduated with my bachelor's, then my master's. I climbed the ladder from a lowly library page to a librarian. We left my father's house and built a new life for ourselves. I became more open, less shy. It's an ongoing process, but I don't mind being me anymore.
I found my soulmate and I'm going to spend the rest of my life with him.
Ten years!! How can you encompass all that happened in those two words?! How do you measure time???
