I'm so tired of white people trying to tell me that systemic racism isn't real

because like, how the hell would you know?

obviously you've never seen it because it isn't directed at you

if you actually took the time to observe what life is like for PoC, or to listen when we tell you about it, you wouldn't be denying the existence of systemic racism

also, saying you know that it exists elsewhere (like the USA) but not in canada really isn't better!!

that's a cop out, you're avoiding the responsibility and culpability that comes with admitting to systemic discrimination in the country you live in

As a Canadian, I see that the country has given opportunity to lots of people. Those who immigrate here for a better life, for example. But today I think it’s important to see that there are a LOT of people from which that opportunity is taken away. Our Indigenous peoples and black communities. I don’t think we can be fully proud of our country until we’ve actually done the work to help ALL PEOPLE living in what is now known as Canada. This country is built on STOLEN LAND, and its original peoples are continually oppressed by the government to this day. Meanwhile, black people are also oppressed in many forms as well, and are more likely to be stopped or killed by the police. I know we always want to say “not in Canada,” but YES. OPPRESSION AND MARGINALIZATION IS STILL AN ISSUE HERE. Today, I urge all my Canadian followers to educate themselves on these issues, and take some time to celebrate what the word “Canada” really means.

Angel DeCarlo

“Angel DeCarlo was wrongfully shot down, like an animal in the street. Although her name was released as some kind of criminal with a long history with the law, the policeman’s name was never released. Although it has been at least a year and a half, he is still on administrative leave, getting paid with taxpayer’s money., Including mine. This man lied and said that my daughter pointed a gun at him. In the tape they showed me, he is brandishing his weapon in the car, posturing to shoot. He opens the door, yells , “stop, stop, stop”, then shoots Angel down. He did not identify himself as a police officer, or ask her name, or anything. He just shot her in cold blood and let her lay, bleeding in the street, for more than five hours before a coroner came and pronounced her dead.  This man has killed three people. Something is wrong with this picture! We need to shine the light on this incident to expose it for what it is, another unjustified police shooting of an unarmed Black person. The tape, nor his name, has been released to the media. This man should have been fired. He is paid to protect and serve, not kill! Let’s pull the cover off this atrocity and get #Justice4Angel”

Justice for Darrien Hunt

Back in 2014, a young man named Darrien Hunt recently turned 22 years old when he was unjustly murdered for cosplaying an anime character. Hunt was carrying a $30 display sword that was purchased at a local Asian City store in the Saratoga Springs area.

He was chased then shot from behind 6 times by officers Cpl. Matthew Schauerhamer and Officer Nicholas Judson outside of a Panda Express parking lot in Saratoga Springs, Utah. State autopsy results reveal Hunt was not attacking. The evidence was caught on the restaurant’s cameras.

His mother, Susan Hunt, said she had turned down a $900,000 offer to settle her wrongful death lawsuit against the city. Court records show the settlement proposal also included a gag order, barring her from commenting about the case.

The Utah County Attorney’s Office, however, ruled the shooting was justified, saying Schauerhamer and Judson felt their lives were threatened by Darrien Hunt.

Let’s get his case reopened and get justice for his family!
