Jonathan Joss was an Indigenous, gay man who was murdered on the first day of Pride month as well as Indigenous History Month. He died protecting his trans husband. Homophobia and racism aren’t marks of the past, and this is a heart breaking reminder of that.

This is the kind of thing I usually keep to private conversation rather than posting on tumblr, but I am tired and I'm going to talk into the void for a bit here, see if it can make any difference beyond the circle of "people I already know agree with me."

You guys have got to start treating trans guys better. Cis and trans people alike treat us poorly, people who call themselves allies, people who call themselves activists. We face everything from microaggressions to being hate crimed and killed for being trans men. Cis women who would swear up and down that they support us as men still think of us as "AFABs" and will say that to our faces. Cis women who don't support us will beat us up themselves or get cis men to do it for them. A solid chunk of the queer community treats as though being masculine taints us. Those of us who want to medically transition even face issues from those of us who don't! So many people have mentioned this nebulous "trans guy who transitions and then becomes super misogynistic" and yet that's not a type of person I've ever interacted with in my life. I could give specific examples of most of these, but I have no interest in detailing the suffering of myself and my community for the sake of being believed.

And it would be for the sake of being believed, because so few people believe us. Do you have any idea how many times I've seen people claim that transphobia towards trans men is just a side effect of trans misogyny? Or that people don't hate us, they don't care about us? And all the while people go on villainizing us because "well you're a man now and men are bad" or "you're betraying womanhood" or "you're trans and trans people are bad."

I really, really don't want to talk too much about transmisogyny in this, for several reasons, but especially because I'm tired of us and trans women being pitted against each other and I don't want this to come across like I'm comparing us. I do, however, need to point out that it's almost impossible to talk about facing oppression as a trans man without someone showing up to tell us that trans women have it worse. It's not even usually trans women who do this! And it's to the point where myself and so many other transmascs I talk to will preface things that they say with "and I know transfems have it worse" or even "I know this is really about trans women but it hurts me too" and it's. Do you see what you're doing? Do you know how harmful it is for a whole community to have to constantly undercut their oppression so that they don't get shut down because "they don't have it as bad"?

This got longer and a little ventier than I meant for it to, but I am exhausted. Please for the love of god be nice on this post. If you absolutely have to voice disagreement with anything please don't be rude about it. And a disclaimer that that last paragraph was not any sort of commentary on transmisogyny and solely about how people use the concept of it to dismiss trans guys

The conservative government of Alberta is now taking away 200 dollars from the disability pension from people like me who they think are “scammers” who are “fit to work” normal jobs.

As someone who had to drop out of school many years ago and could never finish despite my many attempts and had to be hospitalized for my disorders more than once, this is yet another way that conservatives are kicking down on the most vulnerable in society.

After all, there is no hate like Christian love.

Because of this, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to stop taking commissions, so… now I’m opening another slot. Because I have no choice.

My favorite!!! I finished this at the end of the summer last year but never posted bc i put it up for display as soon as it was done. This is definitely the most complicated block I'd done up to then, and sat on this pattern and cherry-picked solids for about a year before feeling confident enough to start (in the end, there's still one stinker block I didn't place properly orz) I'm really happy with the free motion too! All came together really lovely, wip under cut!
