"20 minutes til showtime, you almost ready in there?" a light knock accompanied the voice from behind the door.
Pom Pom steeled herself, forcing her lips into a large grin, the corners of her mouth and cheeks stung a little from the strain. She looked at herself in the mirror, green eyes reflecting back a picture of her faceless self.
"yeah, just about! keep the crowd warm for me!" she called back, staring intensely, her gaze moved to her lips in her true reflection.
Face painted an off-white tinged in green, neon spots and caution signs decorating her features. she was beautiful, as always.
With a final lingering glance, she pulled herself away from the dressing room vanity.
The audience was, of course, ecstatic when her intro theme began to play. She made sure to give a little extra by swaying her hips exaggeratedly as she took a running start up on stage, flipping in the air as gracefully as she could manage, and landing with a flair, confetti popping from around her.
"Creatures and Calamities! welcome to tonight's performance!" Wonky's voice boomed from all around, lights snapping off as a spotlight shone on Pom Pom making her sweat a little under the heat, "in this corner, we have the radiant and illustrious Pom Pom!"
the crowd whistled and screamed, exploding in excitement as Wonky's voice continued on, "and in this corner," the spotlight snapped off briefly to move positions to the opposite of Pom Pom, popping back on to reveal a cloaked figure, "our newest guest fighter, an up and comer from the far reaches of The Fields of Vast, El Fantasma!"
a layer of silvery mist began to creep on stage as the lights settled on the two of them. Pom Pom smirked at her opponent with a soft snort, giving off a facade of undue bravado.
the bell sounded, and the two rushed towards each other, Fantasma moving like the wind to dodge every one of Pom Pom's hits. she could feel the air around her beginning to thin a little as the motion of Fantasma's movements began to blur.
she gritted her teeth, growling. to her surprise. this worked to intimate her opponent into pausing long enough for her to get a good hit on them, though unfortunately that might have been a trick to lure her closer, as Fantasma used her momentum against her, throwing her down to the opposite side of the stage. she swore as she was falling she caught a glimpse of a smile under their cloak.
She chuckled, even as the wind was knocked out of her repeatedly, and as her opponent landed blow after blow, she maintained her cocky demeanor.
the fight ended with her defeat, though not without her landing a few more lucky hits, and she was left with her bruises and bloody nose. all in all, a pretty successful show, she nodded to herself.
backstage she looked around for Fantasma, wanting to congratulate him on winning, but only found the cloak they wore hanging up on a rack. "what the fuck," she chuckled, "well okay, be mysterious like that then, congrats" rolling her eyes, she walked off, heading towards the upstairs and to her room.
"who are you talking to?" she jumped, nearly falling backwards down the steps as Wonky suddenly appeared beside her.
"uhg," she chuckled, clutching the railing, "stop doing that"
"I will when you do," he replied flatly.
yeah fair, she thought. "did that person just leave their cloak behind? i saw it hanging up back there," she shrugged
Wonky thought for a moment, "oh, you mean El Fantasma? yeah, he did that to fuck with you i think, i saw him leave it there before you came backstage.
She couldn't help but burst out laughing, nearly falling again, having to grip the railing with both hands. Wonky gave her a slightly quizzical glance but then shook his head, "it's not that funny"
he just doesn't get it, she sighed. she calmed down, continuing up the stairs with Wonky following, "you'll understand one day, maybe," she grinned, looking back to him with a strange shine to her eyes, "i hope not though"
