basically a horse power is defined by "amount of work required from a horse to pull 150 pounds from a 220 foot hole" by Watt(the energy guy), and in general a horse could have up to 15 horse power per minute, but only if they like, try really hard and then are tired after. But Watt made his measurement such that an average working horse would produce one horse power if it pulled the same thing at the same speed for the entirety of the work day consistently.

So if we measured how much horse power a horse produced in a day of work, it would be around 1, if we measured it of a special horse that they take in competitions to pull heavy stones, it could be up to 15, but that is because they try real real hard for a short amount of time, and the smaller the time per which the force is applied the higher the horse power is (because of the equation (work/time)=energy, which in our case is measured by horse power, if we decrease the time, but work remains the same, the output will increase)

I have a lecture currently but after I will calculate you a rough measurement of the horses

okay so according to my horsulations, assuming an average washing machine takes up 500-1400 Watt throughout the cycle, assuming a mid range matching of about 1000Watts we can figure out that you need at least 1.34 hp (horsepowers) to power it for the entire working day of the horse(s), but since a single washing cycle is much less, a single average horse working at a higher than a day average rate (just means it will try harder but for less time) would be totally enough, If I had to guess even if you account for losses

however the only mechanism I can think of right now that would be suitable for this would be something akin to what we could use for the horse is this, for which you need at least two horses to generate significant speed in the washing machine centrifuge
