One foot down on the neutral ship as much as possible........................................... And one small ship on rosegarden (personal blog: @singingbun, art blog: @thebunartist)
Maybe Iāve grown old, but I have no stamina to like or dislike the new rwby anime
For old timeās sake and a small shred of curiosity, I had a look at Ice Queendom.
Its not that I hated it. Its not that I loved it either.
Perhaps Iām more inclined to leaning towards a growing concern of an evident burn-out that creators related to rwby are going through right now. 3d vs 2d, the truest testament of this storyās flaw is in its rough start.
No matter how many re-adaptations this franchise has, I feel like it wonāt ever be to its upstart standard in concept. I feel like the first 2 volumeās story arc had aged poorly and seeing Ice Queendom is a testament to it.
Iām not here to criticize the anime production team. I know that most of these names in the production team are even a high-bar standard level of animators. But to jack the flaws of the first 2 volumes and keep them in there really, further emphasizes the bigger issue rwby had always suffered.
Characterisation. Sequenced order of events and story flow.
Iām not saying this as mere criticism. Iām honestly mellow about what we got, not even angry or disappointed.
Hell, Iām not about to scream at the top of my lungs to tell people to take sides. Its maybe perhaps Iām slowly growing out of franchises like these is why Iām not so invested. Iām not impassioned enough to throw stones at this show, nor shower it with praise.
Yeah, they did do a lot of side characters right. Yeah, they further expanded upon the world of grim and other elements that werenāt established in rwbyās cannon series. The fight animation is decent at best.
But I canāt bring myself to care enough.
I literally opened up my tumblr account after too long of a hiatus just say this. Maybe cause tumblr will always be associated with rwby for me. But for the most part.
Iām tired of being disappointed and expecting bigger things.
Hell, if they pull us the 180 like vol 3, I donāt know if Iāll still care.
But overall, congrats, Roosterteeth for making it this far. Iām not saying this in sarcasm, but it took a lot out of them to get to this point. Iām honestly impressed.

The Everyman, The Explorer, The Rebel with a cause. Any of these sound familiar? They are just a few of the character archetypes developed by Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung in the 20th century. After studying the myths, legends, and fables of cultures around the world the world, he noticed similarities among the characterās patterns of behavior. He called them archetypes which means āoriginal patternā and they have been used in countless stories throughout film & television alike. Here are a few you should knowā¦
The Everyman; Ian Lightfoot āOnwardā
āI Am Just Like You, I Promise!ā
Thereās nothing unique about the Everyman⦠except theyāre usually destined to be the savior of the world. They are the average joe, the good guy, the workaholic, etc. Youāve seen them enough to know them well. You may even feel like them yourself. But do not discount the Everyman. While they may live a mundane lifestyle, their core desire is to belong. That desire is usually what drives them to live so uneventfully. Because uneventful people donāt raise suspicions. They can easily fit into a group. And thatās all the Everyman wants. However, this can come with a price. The Everyman Archetype is often prone to denying their own points of view/perspective in the attempt to seem compatible with the majority. They fear being thought of as different or weird.
Ian Lightfoot desperately wants to be an Everyman when he truly is a Magician. Born with untapped magical powers, he could be a famed wizard. But he would rather just be able to go to school and ask a group of kids to come to his birthday party. Heās not up for adventure in the least until going on one might be the only way to fulfill his lifelong wish of spending a day with his late father. Thatās the thing that truly makes the Everyman shine. Pressing their backs against a wall and making it clear that only by stepping outside of their norm can they ever hope to get it back.
The Explorer; Mr. Carl Frederickson āUp!ā
āAdventure is Out There!ā
The Explorer has one thing on their mind; adventure! They believe that the world should and must be explored. Think of Tommy from the Rugrats or Dora from Dora the Explorer. Nothing drives them more than the thought of going someplace and doing something new! Pixarās loveable senior citizen character Carl Frederickson is no different. His primary goal throughout the movie is to get his home to Paradise Falls following in the footsteps of his favorite explorer Charles Muntz.
The Explorer is a highly mobile character. They have no ambition to sit still and thatās because their core goal is to seek out new things, experiences, and people. However, this can often be their downfall and result in them getting into many dangers along their way. Carl battles a thunderstorm, talking dogs, and a world that entirely new to him just for the sake of adventure and to fulfill a promise he has made to his wife. What a guy!
The Rebel; Izzy Richardson āLittle Fires Everywhereā
āGive Me Liberty or Give Me Death!ā
If you havenāt seen this Hulu original limited series based on the Celeste Ng novel by the same name, YOU NEED TO! Not just because of its expert use of several of Jungās archetypes (the Ruler (Elena), The Rebel (Izzy), The Creator (Mia), The Caregiver (Linda), but itās just an incredible mini-series whose plot and characters develop beautifully.
Izzy Richardson, admittedly one of my favorite characters, is the youngest of the Richardsonās and the black sheep of the family. In typical Rebel fashion, Izzy serves the story in one primary way, she shakes things up. That is the key characteristic of the Rebel. They are dissatisfied with the current state of their world and do most everything in their power to change it; or at least make it as unbearable as possible.
When considering this archetype, it is important to note that they donāt have to be themselves a typical rebel, holding up banners and painting black stripes on their faces. Neither do they have to be fighting against an oppressive government like Katniss Everdeen (Hunger Games) or Fred Hampton (Judas & The Black Messiah). They could be rebelling against a teacher, principal, employer, or in Izzyās case her mother, who takes on the archetype of The Ruler (more on this later). Sometimes your character may seem to fall into the Rebel archetype (Katniss) other times they seem to be born this way (Izzy/Fred). Whatās most important is that this character is driven by the need to liberate or be liberated. They will fear or fight against any form of tyranny, oppression, or unfair treatment. And sometimes they win (Katniss). And other times⦠not so much. In Izzyās case her rebellious nature leads her to a bitter end which I will not spoil!
The Creator/The Inventor; Willy Wonka
āThere is no world I know to compare with your imagination.ā
You may think that the creator has their head in the clouds⦠but, quite the opposite. They may be one of the most in tune with society. It is not that the Creator is out of touch with reality, they just are not married to it. They dream big and long to see those dreams become a reality. They may be jaded or joyful. Introverted or extroverted. Charismatic or socially awkward. So long as they are actively pursuing the actualization of some innovative idea, invention, or creation for others or themselves.
Letās consider Willy Wonka. A man who has completely isolated himself from society and created a world in which he could live in peace and in harmony. You might think that the movie should be over. Thereās nothing left for the Creator to do, heās created it. Right? Well, creation is only half of what the Creator longs. They are also driven by longevity. The idea that something they make can and will outlive them. Which is the entire reason Wonka has invited the children to the factory. It was his hope that he would find in one of these lucky winners the successor that would continue on the legacy he began.
The Caregiver; Evelyn Couch āFried Green Tomatoesā
āHere, let me fix you.ā
We all know someone who falls into the caregiver archetype. Someone that we are constantly going to for love, comfort, and well⦠care. They seem to be driven by the act of caring for others and you rarely see them doing much for themselves? I immediately think of Evelyn Couch from Fried Green Tomatoes. Obviously I canāt say this with any true confidence, but she may be one of the only Caregiver archetypes that are also the protagonist. Usually, a caregiver will be a friend or ally of the protagonist as their addition to the story is to aide them as they pursue their own agenda. It would make for a pretty boring story if all we ever saw was the protagonist helping others reach their goals and never actively pursuing their own. Right?
That may be what makes Evelyn Couch such an interesting character to watch. She goes from being this doting housewife to taking some true command of herself and her environments. She never stops being a caregiver. We know this by the actions she takes near the end of the film (which I wonāt spoil). Whatās most essential for the Caregiver archetype is their almost primal instinct to nurture and care for other people. But much like Evelyn Couch, to their own detriment. They can be too extending, having little or no boundaries when it comes to those they love. They are often portrayed as nurses, teachers, mothers, elders, house spouses, as these are people, regardless of culture, who are almost always considered caring.
These are just a few of the archetypes noticed by Carl Jung. Hundreds more have been uncovered and hundreds more will. As foreign and otherwise excluded cultures become visible in film, television, and literature, we find humanity within them more and more. We see how weāre alike, how weāre different, and how the stories that have been told in all our cultures keep us connected and entertained.
However, I would be remiss if I did not warn against the dangers of having archetypes fall into the mundane and often offensive category of tropes & stereotypes. These are 2D figures within your story which 1.) donāt seem to have been well-drawn & 2.) employ counterproductive & oversimplified ideas of people and their cultures for the sake of entertainment. DONāT DO THIS! Remember archetypes give pattern and purpose to your character while helping us understand subconsciously who they are and how they move the story along.
So, what are some of your favorite archetypes?
The Everyman, The Explorer, The Rebel with a cause. Any of these sound familiar? They are just a few of the important character archetypes y
Dear rwby community, please give me a good reason to go back to your community. I don't feel motivated enough to continue writing any rwby fanfics I started...
Despite my grievances with RWBY, I did have this OC idea in my pocket for a good 4-5 years. Ironically it was vol.8 that kickstarted me into writing this alternative RWBY what-if fic.
Title: Spool of Glass
Rated: T
Characters: RWBY OCs āNamelessā, Cinder Fall, OC syndicateĀ āThe Dust Gentryā, other mc cameos.
Setting premise: Atlas (pre-vol.1)
Summary:
A Starcatcher falls into the world of Remnant.
Exiled and without memories, she walks the world's face; accepting her fate that this world will be her grave. On her travels, she stumbles across an orphan child and takes her onto a series of misadventures across Remnant. Unaware that her presence will shake the very foundations of its world.
A RWBY 'What if"/alternate story.
What if Cinder was spared from the confines of her abusive childhood; sparing her from her fate of becoming Salem's pawn in the process?
Links: Ao3, Fanfic.net, Wattpad
By no means am I a Cinder stan, but merely someone whoās got an idea to write. Iāve had this idea of throwing an OC race into Remnant for years, but had no idea what to do with it until the most recent vol. Iām merely sharing this cause I want criticism on my writing. Feel free to tear it to shreds and leave a comment because I can use the feedback.
Iām awfully unimpressed with what theyāve done with Ironwood.
Iām not even angry because of what Ironwood did.
Iām angry with what the writers did to Ironwood.
Ironwood was a hard-headed man; but he cared. His motivation wasnāt initially just a utilitarianistic in vols 2-3. He was a man who even commissioned machine soldiers to replace living beings just so that he could cut down the mortality rate of his soldiers. So I donāt know why From vols 7 down to 8, M&K forgot about this detail. The fact that he even comissioned to give Yang a replacement arm is telling of his character. Just because of the whole Salem reveal and the truth of the entire matter, suddenly makes Ironwood look like a paranoid man. If it was vol2-3 Ironwood, you know what he would have done? SAVE people as much as possible, I canāt stress this enough, vol 2 Ironwood wouldnāt ever do something so idiotic as what we saw in vol 8. Revisit Vols 2-3 and youāll find that his disposition wasnāt even close to the militant dictator you see in volume 8.
As someone who actually got invested into the show by vol4, I hated this deviance of character. Iām not defending Ironwood of Vols 7-8. Because Ironwood of vol 8 especially is literally a different Ironwood from the first few volumes. The sheer ridiculousness of the steps the writers took to make him into this personality is astoundingly bad. And the Semblance doesnāt support whatever corruption arc they were trying to go for. It only came out as a terrible, menial excuse for his downfall.
I hate Vol8 Ironwood, not because of his actions. But because of what the writers did to make him into this.
His semblance is literally blocking out sll emotion. As he gets more pressured he uses his semblance more leading to these decisions that seem heartless because they are
@pockupaoa111 I realise that is the point, but itās more problematic in the writing rather than just using semblance as a reason. Perhaps, the worst there is to the narrative is that if that truly is the point of his semblance, the connotations will mean that his actions is as good as saying āDepression is the reason why I kill peopleā.
I was so willing to overlook some of the many plot holes in this series, but when they decided to make that his semblance, I just canāt. It not only breaks the world-building aspects of what semblances are, it just further breaks the narrativeās nature of logic. My suspension of disbelief is just thrown off the roof the minute they did this.
But this is my opinion, and you have a right to oppose it. Iām not sowing discourse, I just felt like it needed to be said

So I went into rwby hiatus for a while and came back to this.
I came back from Internet death to bring you my thoughts:
WHAT THE HELL.
So Ozma/Ozpin is inside the boy.
Ok.
But for goodness sake, suddenly its okay to make him a body bag cause of Oz?
Then this line makes 3xs more sense:
āIām not upset you left, Iām upset that you came back.ā
Because of Ozpin, Hazelās doing this to him.
Because of Ozpin, Qrow punches him.
Because of Ozpin, Jaune hauls him against the wall.
Because of Ozpin, Ironwood shot him.
The boyās scared of getting rejected cause of Oz. And everyone wasnāt treating him like a person cause of Oz. Heās not just feeling isolate, he was actually slightly traumatised. (Yeah, Iām exaggerating here, but still.)
And here it is folks is the laying of foundations as to why Ozpin decided to be reclusive and kept his secrets from everyone else.
Summary:Ā
āBeing a spy of a secret organisation made it clear to Mira Saito that she could never live a normal life. After being assigned to a mission to investigate the strange happenings in Tokyo, her involvement becomes a detriment to the team when a certain celebrity detective becomes suspicious of her.ā
Side note:
This fic was initially written as a means to write out of my writerās block, and eventually put more thought into it. I am actually nervous about sharing this fic on my tumblr site, knowing there are others who donāt follow me for these kinds of things. As a writer, I do want feedback on how I could improve, so by all means, donāt hesitate to give me negative/positive feedback.
As for my other unfinished fics⦠I donāt know how to get back to them.
I am of the impression that PV Felix was a good idea until further discussions made Astruc hate the boy. I donāt hate the outcome, but I wonāt deny my disappointment.
But can you imagine the worst-case scenario (if I were to write this shtick):
-Felix pretends to be Adrien.
-Lila thinks Felix is Adrien and plays him around.
-Felix thinks heās on top of the game making Adrien look like a bad person towards Lila.
-Lila thinks that Adrien has finally shown his true colours, and still wants to control this version of Adrien.
-And this whole push and pull dynamic goes between them like a disaster until they both realize they played each other.
-By then, they also realize that these two have been more honest about their true selves towards each other and not other people.
-And by then, they both agree they still hate each other but acknowledge that theyāre not friends, but uncanny allies/kindred spirits of deceit.
I tell you, the entire scenario will be a dumpster-fire I wouldnāt mind watching for my own amusement.

I take it that how it'll lead up to the finale might go like this:
Mari sends a love letter via LB express š
Adrien sees LB and reads the letter.
Adrien now convinced that Mari=LB
Some misunderstanding follows ensuit leading to a very upset Mari
Hawkmoth sends an akuma to Mari only to have chat take it
Chat isn't akumatised yet, but is trying to resist HM's taunts. Instead, chat questions why he wants the miraculous
HM reveals his motive, enabling Chat to succum to HM's possession.
Chat gives his ring to his father (I Don't know) and becomes Chat Blanc
Chat now in full possessed mode, sought for LB with that sole purpose of following his dad's request.
For some reason goes up to years in the future.
LB figures out why everything happened. Fights him.
After the whole chat blanc disaster, LB sends bunnix to the past to remove the letter Mari sent to Adrien. That way, Mari will not only bear the burden of knowing that HM has taken a hold of CN's weakness, the events traumatized her into not confessing her feelings for Adrien, in fear of the consequences.
The traumatic experience would lead to Marinette's emotional state of the finale. Adding more weight to her breakdown in front of Luka.
Remember feast? With the Order of Guardians back in the high mountains of Tibet, can we have a member of staff fly/travel to Paris? That would make a better lore moment than just have fu pass all duties to Mari. This way, Mari will be taught the ways to do the guardian stuff.
But hey, it is a kids show and children would prefer more action than drama.
Are they gonna do a (badly written) zuko on us, or are they gonna actually flaunt this thing called character development but toss it out of the ball park for plot convenience?
Not salty, but that was... underwhelming. I felt like love eater did a better job on high stakes scenarios.
