Lunch time 🍞
WORLD 1 : CUTE TOWN.
I threw together my original tileset without much foresight. I wasn’t planning at that moment to spend this much time on this game (whoops!).
So I’ve been going over those old assets and trying to set in stone a style guide of sorts so that I can make things easily that fit together. That includes colours etc., but also trying to understand this bonkers perspective.
Battle Base is going to have a bunch of unlock-able heroes each with unique towers and abilities.
This is the first of the lot. Homage to advance wars’ Andy: her tower is average but her special skill gives a temporary boost to the effectiveness of your crappy towers.
Inspiration: Japanese construction workers. Arale. Grimes.
Game coming along! It’s called ‘Battle Base’. It’s a fairly cookie-cutter tower defence game at the moment, but I have lots of features planned!
Shooting animations for my first tower. Not sure if I’ll use the chunky bullet or the thinner bullet yet.
Since I have 3Dish collisions and LOS in for my towers, I thought it’d be pretty important to communicate this to the player. My first two attempts at putting this LOS preview together were way too clunky and brought the game down to a crawl (on my currently crippled computer--probably fine on a normal set-up). Third time’s a charm! It looks and runs the best.

I felt it’d look silly if bullets just magically went through walls or towers could shoot through each other regardless of their position and height.
So today I implemented a bunch of pseudo-3D stuff.
This is probably overkill, and possibly not even fun, but I’m pretty proud that it WORKS.

Wasted way too much time animating this little dude (and it’s still needs fixing in places). 8-directions never again! It can also attack trees and boulders if it’s a quicker path to the target.
Level gen & world gen in (kinda!)
Using a system inspired by spelunky.
Still learning to put together working path-finding. They now avoid congested areas and use the empty space a tad nicer.
