DC Pride #1 - “Finding Batman” (2022)

Growing up I only could hear Kevin Conroy as Batman. I repeatedly watched Batman SubZero because it was my favorite movie to watch on my parent's vhs on vcr. Even if my attention was on Dick Grayson my first fictional crush, Batman's voice still permeated. Like the Dark Knight watching over his city, Kevin's voice was always there. When he died, I never knew all this time that he was gay. But I was not a close minded person, I had gay, lebsian, and trans friends at the time and had accepted them. People forget that the catholic religion teaches us to love one another. So that's what I did. Kevin Conroy was Batman I didn't care if he was gay or not I didn't love him any less or more. I never met him but something tells me that he has felt the overwhelming love we as fans have for him simply because he was able to reach to dark places in his life to bring Bruce and Batman alive. Every pride I read his story to remind me as an actor as well as to look out for my fellow actors and LGBTQIA+ members as an ally. If not for Kevin, then for me to be a decent human being. His story remains a powerfulsl source for all who have felt like he has. There is no amount of thank yous we can say to a legend like him. But I'm sure like the Dark Knight, watching over us, he knows.
