Day 1: Summer
Inspired by Tanabata 🌟
Sebaciel as the star-crossed lovers, Hikoboshi and Orihime, whose stars shine as part of the "Summer Triangle" in the night sky 🌠🌌
Drawing the most traumatic moment from the manga because I don’t want to suffer alone.🦋
It's inspired by the scene where Ciel looks at the angel statue during his torment. For this art, I made Sebastian that very angel—finally doing what a guardian angel should do, collecting the moths off Ciel.
sebastian’s true demon form
the vision was stuck in my mind i had to draw it outXD

Sebastian as the Personification of Ciel's Trauma
Sebastian was never meant to represent evil. He represents what the Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung feared most: an autonomous Shadow so powerful that the ego mistakes it for a loyal servant while slowly becoming its servant instead.
On the surface, Ciel is the one in charge. Sebastian does what he is told, calls him "my lord" and spends his days serving him. But psychologically it is the reverse. Every choice Ciel makes – vengeance over mourning, control over vulnerability, efficiency over healing – reinforces the power he thinks he controls.
What is unconscious, Jung argued, does not disappear but becomes autonomous. Sebastian is the epitome of that autonomy. He continually draws Ciel back to the identity that sustains their contract: the Earl, the Watchdog, the avenger. Whenever the frightened child begins to surface, Sebastian restores the mask.
The Green Witch arc is a perfect illustration of this. Under the hallucinogenic gas, Ciel faces the terrified child he has repressed for years. Instead of letting that encounter become a moment of integration, Sebastian reminds him of the contract. The vulnerable child is gone and the Earl is back. This is not healing in Jungian terms, but repression reasserting itself.
That’s the real horror of Sebastian. He is an inhuman psychology, slowly colonizing a traumatized child. He has no interest in warmth, friendship, forgiveness, healing. People are useful or entertaining to him. Or they are disposable. And slowly, Ciel starts to see the world in the same way.
A scene from the Book of Circus opening is actually a great example of this.. because opening songs always carry more symbolic imagery rather than literal one. The image of Ciel reaching toward Doll while Sebastian steps between them can be read as more than protection. Doll represents one of the few people who genuinely understands what it means to survive exploitation as a child. There is a possibility—however small—of recognition, empathy, even connection between the two children.
For a brief second, Ciel reaches toward another human being. And then Sebastian steps between them. That image isn't just about him protecting his master. It's about mediation. After the ritual, Ciel almost never encounters another human being directly. He encounters them through Sebastian. Sebastian becomes the lens through which Ciel experiences the world. Every relationship is translated into usefulness. Every stranger is a suspect. Turn every ally into an asset. Every victim into collateral. Every emotional decision becomes a strategic one.
The opening visualizes that perfectly. Ciel reaches for another wounded child.. Sebastian (i.e. Ciel’s trauma) becomes the space between them. Not because he physically prevents contact— but because he has become the psychological distance between Ciel and everyone else. By that point, Sebastian doesn't have to pull Ciel away from warmth. Ciel does it himself. And that's far more frightening than any command a demon could issue.
This is why I don't think Sebastian merely follows Ciel's darkness—he shapes it. Not through force, but because trauma makes inhumanity feel safer than hope. Sebastian never tells Ciel to become a monster. He simply makes being human seem inefficient... unnecessary.
Finny (and the servant) repeatedly display their unshakable loyalty toward Ciel. Soma offers uncomplicated and non-transactional friendship, something Ciel consistently struggles to accept. Elizabeth never stops loving the boy beneath the Earl.
Sebastian never outright forbids these relationships. He doesn't have to. He is the psychological distance between Ciel and genuine human connection. Not through lies, but through constructing a worldview in which affection becomes weakness, empathy becomes inefficiency, and people become pieces on a board.
The most unsettling possibility is that, by the current point in the manga, Ciel often sounds less like himself and more like Sebastian. If Sebastian is read as Ciel's externalized Shadow, then the real horror isn't that a demon is following him—it's that Ciel is slowly internalizing the demon's way of being human. That's a very Jungian tragedy: the ego doesn't notice it's being possessed because it mistakes the Shadow's voice for its own.
