As much as I love drawing Gamzee all cutesie and stuff, I do think people in universe just find him to be generally unsettling and even creepy. And most of this is stigma around mental health bc he's very clearly unwell and it makes people uncomfortable.

He talks to himself, laughs when it's not appropriate, gets spooked at nothing and stays calm in situations that would freak other people out. He can sneak up on you without a sound and stares off into space a lot. And most of all he showcases his emotions in very volatile ways. Ugly sobbing at the smallest things, and when he gets mad he gets ANGRY. It freaks people out.

And I'm not saying they're right. It's not fair that these things he can't control get him weird looks and have people avoid him. It's just the way he's perceived.
