“I said, I hope your husband has a nice birthday,” the alpha says, still smiling. It's polite, and Harry can’t work out why there’s an edge to the man’s voice, but there definitely is. Maybe he’s pissed off with Harry for not listening the first time. Wouldn’t be a surprise; Harry is so shit at talking to people.  

And, oh. The alpha thinks he’s married. Because of course he fucking does, Harry’s buying a card that says husband on it and a bottle of prosecco. He really wants to set the record straight, even though there is zero chance it matters anyway.

“Oh! Oh, right, yeah. No,” he says, and the alpha looks confused and amused. Harry feels his face redden more than it was before. “I mean, the card is for Niall.” The alpha nods, still looking slightly confused, and Harry realises that really doesn’t explain anything.

“I’m aware,” he said curtly, turning to leave, keen to get away from this pushy interviewer. As he left the room with Matt and Jess in tow, James called out to him.

“Interviewing Harry later today,” he said, “I’ll let him know you’re looking forward to getting acquainted with him again.”

Louis’ jaw tensed as he ground his teeth, and Matt laid a firm, comforting hand on his lower back, murmuring “leave it, Lou,” and ushering him out of the room before he could flip the man off.

Harry’s expression hasn’t changed, and Louis’ about to turn and speed walk back to his moped to go and drive it off a cliff when the man finally speaks.

“Do you want to come in?” he asks tentatively, and Louis’ stomach swoops again, his face warming despite the frigid air.

I read 77 fics this year (being employed really did a number on my productivity when it comes to reading), and, although I really struggle with choosing favourites, these are a few of them. I tried to limit it to one fic per author to avoid this list being the same people over and over.

Harry has a habit of hot tubbing topless, to both the delight and dismay of her housemates Louis and Zayn. When it gets to be too much for Louis one day, she flees to her room to take care of herself, only to be surprised by Zayn showing up in her doorway and suggesting they take mutual advantage of Louis' view of the back garden where Harry's still enjoying her hot tub time.

In which Louis finds out the only thing hotter than Harry is getting off a few feet from a good friend who finds her just as overwhelming.

I loved how fun this one was! Really enjoyed it!

“Why’s that?” Louis asked, a smile peeking out as though he already knew. He looked so pretty and cool with his sun-kissed skin and black Ray-Bans covering his eyes.

Harry rolled over on his towel until he was half-pressed against Louis and placed his palms on top of Louis’ chest, tucking his chin over them. “Because I had you.”

I'm not joking when I say this ruined my life. It was just so heartbreaking and beautiful and so so so well written! I kept screaming the entire time I was reading (mostly at Louis, because my GOD did he need it, but Harry received a good scolding too). I honestly couldn't recommend it enough.

It’s the summer before Louis' senior year of college and he’s spending it getting drunk with his friends, working an internship he hates, and hooking up with Harry, the ‘straight’ frat boy he met in January. There’s only six weeks until school starts.

I really enjoyed reading this! Such a fun read!

This one was heartbreaking but so beautiful and I loved it a lot.

I don't want to talk about how much I cried while reading this, but what I do want to talk about is how much I loved it. Seriously, go read it if you haven't.
