Spoiler Alert: Resident Evil Village
I might delete this later. Idk if any of y'all like Resident Evil. But I recently watched Village and had a strong interest in 7 a couple of years ago. I'm watching a play-through of 3 right now and am gonna make my way through 2 & 4 after. But I need to get my thoughts out about Village.
Someone said that the girls (Donna/Angie and Alcina) & guys (Moreau and Heisenberg) were opposites of each other. The more you think about it, the more true it is and it's so fascinating.
Donna, the doll maker, who lost her family at a young age, who has a note behind the painting about wanting to save Rose. She just wanted friends at her core, to feel loved and accepted. She was very child-like in that sense and Angie I feel was a symbol of her innocence as the doll was given to her by her father? Don't quote me on anything. But, then we take a look at Alcina.
Alcina, the 9'6" vampire, who created family and took lives, and who despised Heisenberg for his betrayal against Mother Miranda & who very much wanted to keep Rose, not to protect her, but to help out Miranda. She was full of vain, something Donna lacked, and was very confident, again something Donna lacked. She took life willingly and repeatedly for years and years.
While Donna lost her family, Alcina got to create her 3 daughters. Donna wore a vail and was usually in all black; Alcina didn't show off her frame or anything, but wore white and showed off her face. Donna's one line to Ethan, she stays away from him, whereas Alcina was very much in his face or raising him to meet hers. Usually white symbolizes pureness so I think it's interesting that Alcina got the white dress, not Donna. But I think I can explain those bits away as the daughters wore black so it contrasted and black usually symbolizes darkness and Donna was very much hidden away in her own darkness.
Plus, not to forget both of their death sequences. Donna wanted to play a game, but quickly accepted her fate and tried to make it easier for Ethan by having him hallucinate that he was killing Angie, not her. Alcina put up one hell of a fight and there was only one true way to weaken her, the knife. While Donna tries to make it easier for him as she accepts her fate and tries to run, Alcina taunts him and chases him around, seeking him out to hurt him and make it harder for him.
Moving to the boys now.
Moreau, the most unlike his human form, unable to control his abilities, desperate for love and admiration from Miranda, and not really putting up a fight against Ethan when he got Rose's essence from him. He desperately wished for validation from Miranda and was shown for being wrapped up in his romance movies & brie cheese. He experiments with turning humans into Lycans to try to gain some admiration from Miranda.
Heisenberg, the most human with a strong control over his powers, and wanting revenge against Miranda for what she did to him. He even offers Ethan a way out by offering to team up with him, but when Ethan refuses, he throws him to his best defense/fight. He had experiments with his soldiers in hopes of fighting against Miranda, not for her.
Heisenberg wanted revenge, Moreau wanted love. What two things could be more opposite of each other?
As for their death sequences, Moreau's death was a mercy kill in a lot of ways. Moreau was losing control further and further over the creature. He never would've truly grasped how to handle it and work it to his advantage. Heisenberg was harder to kill, not only because he was the 4th Lord, but because his death was not out of pity or mercy. Pity and/or mercy would've been to let him get his revenge on Miranda, as he so desperately wanted. Instead this kill was out of revenge, wanting for the battle to be over with and so he'd know once and for all that there would be no more lords to battle after Miranda. He was put through Hell, even when Heisenberg wanted to help, it wouldn't fulfill his own revenge. So again, what two things could be more opposite of each other? (This time mercy and revenge).
But Miranda and Ethan? I think those two are a case of actually similar people. Hear me out.
Miranda, desperate to bring a child back. She went into a cave, ready to lay down and die, but ended up finding the mold and lived her life for it, even though it resulted in her losing her life. She pushed for it every chance she got and let her baby be the one thing that motivated her through it all, hoping to be reunited. There were many points when she could have given up, but she never faltered and did.
Ethan, desperate to bring a child back. He went into the Baker home unknowing of what was to come. He ended up dying, but being reborn through the mold reviving him. He didn't live for the mold, but because of it. He pushed for Rose as his primary motivator through it all, even when Heisenberg offered to team up with him. He was too wrapped up in the idea of bringing his daughter back and in villian-izing the Lords that he was blind to his rage.
Don't get me wrong, Ethan is far from the villain in this story. He wanted to save Rose and did so, even going as far as sacrificing his life for her. But it is interesting that he and Miranda were similar. They both essentially lost their life to the mold and then to each other. They both had their children that they fought for and both ended up losing them in some sense, in the end. She was motivated by her own want for revenge and by the end for Ethan, his want for revenge was kicking in full gear.
Miranda is a villain, you will never catch me doubting that. And Ethan is the hero, again, never doubting that. They do differ in how they treated others, but beyond that their storylines and motivations are very similar.
On another note, how did Duke seemingly constantly spawn whenever Ethan needed him? I don't remember entirely if he was in the Beneveito house or the submerged town, but in the castle, factory, and town, he was almost always readily available, even if we didn't seem him go in as he didn't go with Ethan. (There's a theory he's a Lord too and if anyone wants that link, I'll find the video again).
Also, if he wasn't in the submerged town or house, that's another point to add to how Donna/Angie & Moreau were different from their counterparts.
Anywho, I just needed to let that all out. Because I find this stuff really fascinating.
Have a good day y'all! :o)
