AU Roulette 2026 Sign-ups are officially open!

And with that, we are getting things started! As a brief reminder for those new to the event -- AU Roulette is a casual fic-writing challenge encouraging fanfic authors to play around with different types of alternate universe stories, which will be randomly assigned to each participant regardless of the fandom they sign up with.

Writers will be able to sign up from May 10th-31st with a fandom of their choice. At the start of June, each participant will be assigned three AUs from a masterlist using a random number generator. Each author will then have the choice of completing the challenge one, two, or all three of the AUs. Any fic exceeding a 500-word minimum will be considered a completion, so long as it employs the AU premise. Fics can then be posted at any point during the month of June.

As a reminder: The fandom you signed up with is used to filter AU assignments, in order to minimize re-rolls! (For example, someone signing up with "The Lord of the Rings" will not be assigned a High Fantasy AU). Please only sign-up with one fandom.

Everybody point and laugh at a guy who spent literally an hour weighing the pros and cons of different outfit choices for a date, decided to not do anything bc they didn't want to seem like they were thinking this would go well/were that invested, and then got embarrassed about it.

And BB is ideally just hanging out in shorts and a t-shirt LOL hes not always the most careful when bleaching his hair but that doesnt mean its not a shirt he can chill in. were it not for the laws of this land (getting the farm dropped on his head) he would be tats out outside of the comfort of his own home... shockingly chill with his own skin for a cuckoo, all things considered!!

7: Smth their passionate about

Ars is Kind Of Intense sometimes, but like, quietly, which might not be the same as passionate? They plan somewhat obsessively. They want to know every angle of something, they need to know that a thing or person that they care for will be safe, in any set of circumstances. Maybe that's passion. They wouldn't really consider it that, but they're not always *correct* about their perception of themself.

BB is passionate about a lot of things. He's kinda hitting some Manic Pixie Dream Girl energy I Fear. He likes indie bands. He likes DIY art and clothing. He likes constructing himself as an expression of himself, from his dyeing his hair in the sink and refusing to touch up his roots to Perhaps Fiddling Around With Makeup And Drag. he wants to be a beach boy and go surfing if the ocean doesn't decide people are evil forever or whatever's happening in los diablos. He throws himself wholeheartedly into so many relatively little things bc he thinks that it's the little things that define a person, and he's both having fun AND trying to define himself.

Arsinoe doesn't have any!

BB is allergic to strawberries :( he thinks this is very sad :(

4: Opinion on children?

Ars is deeply ambivalent and doesn't understand them. They've never been a kid, how are those different from just like... small humans?? Would be Fundamentally uncomfortable being left in charge of one. They're often stressful to be around, Arsinoe doesn't have enough energy for that.

BB likes kids! Kids think he's kind of lame because they can tell he's trying too hard, but he also doesn't talk down to them and will show them cool shit and he genuinely likes Mediocre Child Art so like, he's got to be winning SOME of the time with them right?? I don't think he would want any of his own ever, but he can be Cool!!!

18: do they practice ANY form of art?

Arsinoe used to paint their nails! they liked making teeny tiny art that they decided on and get to control and also they can hide it in their pockets or with gloves and then it's just for them. They also liked painting Themmy's nails bc its Bonding. and i think they did ric's a couple of times. Ars hasn't done this since Heartbreak, though, they don't feel... safe to express themself even in small ways? Safer to keep everything shuttered down as much as possible.

BB does many things somewhat mediocrely and he has fun with it!! He embroiders, he did all the bits of embroidery + patches on his jacket himself, some amateur painting, he's made some of his own clothes. None of it is particularly expertly done, but he likes having made something and he likes it not being perfect, bc that way you can tell Someone Made It With Their Hands. It's got personality!!

5: SECOND fav food

theyre kinda ambivalent about specific food! however they like it when people make food for them. second favorite is when elena feeds them. ask no questions about who that makes first.

13: fav possession now?

it used to arguably be the chagre hoodie, but they just liked having stuff that was Theirs. and then they lost everything that was theirs, and it feels weird to let themself get attached to stuff again. Maybe the Rat King, depending on what we define as 'possession'? The Anathema suit, otherwise. Not even just from a Practical standpoint. They like being able to feel secure behind the helmet.

Here's the hacker. He's a Black nerd, and also the most moral character of the bunch. He's a nerd but also not socially awkward; in fact, he's the second best at grifting, right after the person who's been doing it for decades.

Here's the muscle. In his heart of hearts, he is a chef. He is tough and manly but he uses that to look out for the working class and children and everyone else the system leaves behind. He's feared by politicians and he reminds his friend to tip the delivery person.

Here's the femme fatale. She's over forty years old, and she's the one seducing the mark. She's the heart of the team. Her calling is to be a director. She loves attending her own funeral.

Here's the mastermind. He's the only one who doesn't start out as a career criminal. He manipulates his own crew, kills two people after promising them he won't, and takes deals behind their back. He was in seminary school.
