I’m so glad you’ve opened up your blog for voices, it seems perfect for my dad. COVID-19 has disproportionately affected the African-American community. With my dad living in Philly and with pre-existenting conditions, I hoped and prayed he’d be okay.
In April, unfortunately, my dad contracted COVID-19 and experienced difficulty breathing which eventually lead to intubation. He called me, in Indiana, before he went under anesthesia, and within 48 hours, with the help of my sisters in Australia, I was across the street from his hospital in Philadelphia. He was released after a week in the hospital, but he kept experiencing shortness of breath. So, we went back to the hospital and they quickly re-admitted him, revealing that his condition was deteriorating and required a trach. He's been there ever since; he tested positive for COVID a second time.
I ask for any donation, no matter how small, to help my dad during this time. With him in the hospital, his rent, water, electricity, and insurance bills continue to accumulate with not enough to pay within the coming weeks. I am a medical scribe but due to COVID, our doctors and company did not wish to put us in danger and discontinued our shifts indefinitely. I flew almost 600 miles to be of service to my dad, but all I feel is uselessness.
If you can, if it is within your ability (even $1), please help us reach our goal so that my dad can still have a place to come back to and heal in.
These are hectic times, and they seem never-ending. In April, unfortunate… Makanvi Talawali needs your support for Help with the Talawali CO
