I am trying to remind myself that there is so much more ahead for me. This sadness is a moment in my life and it’s okay. I don’t have to be on the same timeline as everyone else. I’m in no rush. I know there is so more out there for me.

The universe will send you exactly what you want and then dangle your comfort zone in your face to see if you’re really ready for what you want.
The older I get, the more I understand that it’s okay to live a life others don’t understand.
It’s one thing for someone to love you when you’re happy It’s another thing for someone to understand how to love you when you’re sad

Learning how to love and forgive yourself is a very powerful thing to do. You deserve to be at peace with yourself. Be patient with yourself as you continue to grow. Everything will work out in the end.

To anyone who might need to hear this: If you keep trying to live a better life, to be a better you and you keep failing, keep falling down, it is okay to feel angry and frustrated. If you keep hitting rock bottom while everyone around you seems to experience success, find love and happiness, you are allowed to feel lonely and as if life is just unfair. I just want you to know that I get that and I am here for you. Telling you that things are going to be okay again will not make you feel any better, I know that. I just want to say that I am proud of you for pushing through that incredibly hard time, my love. Soon, it is going to be your time to shine. I am rooting for you.
Honestly sometimes you want things to work out and it doesn’t and time passes and you look back and understood why it didn’t happen then. The universe or whatever you believe in, is always looking out for the best for you so mourn but move on. There are better things ahead always.
Everything truly happens for a reason.
Just in case you have not heard this in a while: Thank you for existing. Thank you for spreading sunshine. Thank you for trying everyday to feel okay. I see your effort and I see how much you are struggling from time to time. Thank you for pushing through. Thank you for never giving up on yourself. I love you.
STAYING SANE IN QUARANTINE
🏡 make lists and logs- to do lists should have 3 main tasks per day, log what you accomplish each night. Plan ahead if you want to live your day with intention and log if you seek reflection. other lists you can make include favorite movies/shows, books/articles/blogs to read, recipe’s to try, projects to start, hobbies to try, products to buy, small business to support. Refer to these lists for something to do when you’re bored or overwhelmed to shift your focus.
🏡 cultivating a routine and designating areas for work and leisure will help you stay organized and structured, try the Pomodoro Technique. If you want to fall asleep faster, only use your bed for sleeping and nothing else. This will make your brain associate your bed with sleep.
🏡 make a box- making a self care box you can pull out from under your bed is a really comforting activity! Put in your favorite things like snacks, tea, face masks, print or write out journal prompts to complete, a self help/improvement book to turn to, art prints, enamel pins. You can also make a memory, prayer or manifestation box by writing down your thoughts and putting them into the according box.
🏡 get fresh air- keep your distance from people and go for a walk or jog around your neighborhood. Going outside releases endorphins- which make us feel good. And spending time in the sun also allows us to naturally soak up some vitamin D. Put on a podcast and get moving!
🏡 listen to your body- look up some mindfulness tricks and learn how to listen to what your body needs. Rest? Movement? Feel a lot of built up energy or maybe you’re pushing yourself past your limits? Breathing techniques will help you clear your mind of anxious thoughts and you’ll be able to hear your bodies needs easier.
*If your body needs rest- pick one!: a warm bath with Epsom salt will relax your body- personalize it with your favorite essential oils, watch your favorite show/movie wrapped in blankets, follow along with a yoga tutorial, sit somewhere comfortably and try a meditation app such as Calm, Headspace or Chillscape. As your mind relaxes your body will follow.
*If your body needs movement- pick one!: go for a 30 minute walk outside, work out for 10 minutes- use Pinterest to search for workout challenges that target desired areas, dance in your room to nostalgic music, stretch for 15 minutes, go for a bike ride- explore areas in your neighborhood you’re unfamiliar with
🏡 managing stressful thoughts- our bodies sense a threat, we are in fight or flight mode. It’s a completely natural response to feel stressed or worried about the current state of the world. This is an unprecedented and unpredictable time. But, stress and worry weaken the immune system and the mind. Our thoughts are in our control and have great power. Our attitude matters. Shift angry and resentful thoughts to hopefulness. Look for the silver lining in the pandemic, many things are being brought to light such as the effects of capitalism, room for nature to breathe, and people’s relationship with themselves.
🏡 keeping in touch with technology- Houseparty is a video calling app with interactive games that allows a maximum of 8 people in a call. Try to help elderly family members or neighbors connect online if they aren’t sure how to. Tag your friends in challenges. Send an invitation out to your friends to set up a group chat for a specific time. Streaming services have incorporated technology that allow you and your friends to watch the same movie while staying separated.
🏡 setting boundaries- in your home and with technology. Be clear with the people you live with when you need space and time alone. Try to have one day a week you’re offline. It’s important to reset your energy so past things don’t continue to arise in your life. Creating space in our schedules allows us to see where are focus is and what areas in our life we are neglecting.
🏡 music- make playlists, search for new artists, listen to binaural beats for deeper meditations or to help you fall asleep, find compilations on youtube; vintage oldies, 2000 hits and jazz instrumentals are some of my favorites, search a genre or mood on spoify to switch up work/study music
Quarantine lessons
This is the first (and I hope the last) time in our lives where everything is shut down, where meetings are forbidden, and where the future is shaped day by day. Despite the fact that I’m really lucky and grateful to live in a country such as Switzerland, which didn’t suffer as much as some other countries and where the lockdown was less severe, my mind still went through different phases. And besides learning how to bake banana bread and realizing I don’t need a gym to do proper workouts, I wanted to make a list of everything this really special situation taught me.
Medicine is definitely the career I want to pursue. I’ve been in a really confusing place last year where I kept wondering if being a doctor would make me fulfilled and happy and if it was the right choice for me. But when the #covid started in Switzerland, I couldn’t imagine myself staying at home and wait for it to pass, and I was thrilled when I knew I could help! I spent 5 weeks volunteering at the hospital, the situation got better really quickly and I hadn’t so much work to do in the end, but I’ve never felt more in my element than during these 5 weeks.
Another thing that amazed me is the sense of #community that emerged from all the confusion created. All the volunteers, associations, but also platforms, crowdfunding and social media dedicated to the help of the most vulnerable and healthcare workers really made me proud and hopeful for our future.
Another area of my life that was really affected : relationships. I discovered that I needed connection more than I wanted to admit. I always thought I was ok in doing things on my own but I had a really hard time finding the right balance and I think I’m finally getting somewhere. On the other hand, I feel like I’ve never had so many friends in my entire life : I reinforced my relations with lots of people, made new friends and opened up with people I never thought I would.
I also learned a lot about myself, since this kind of situation makes introspection inevitable. Some old memories arose and confronted my current reality. I questioned lots of aspects of my life, and really took the time to analyse what I was lacking in my life in order to feel this sense of « wholeness » I was apparently lacking. I did lots of journaling, and figured out new projects I wanted to work on, new goals and I also redefined some of my priorities and I think I’m finally finding a new, more accurate and exciting balance.
Last thing that I learned during this quarantine : how I cope with stressful situations. I figured out I was handling my stress and feelings in healthier ways than I used to. I wasn’t trying to numb my feelings but allowed myself to actually *feel* and then let go… I now know that I’m able to handle critical situations and that I’ll always find my way out of difficult times.
My Quaran-Routine
Daily:
Wake up after 7.5-8 hours of rest
Drink an Iced Coffee - either homemade or drive through at Dunkin
Stretch out back and hips
Read for at least an hour - can be for school or for pleasure
At least 2 quick walks a day to keep me moving
Overall at least move 5 miles a day (according to either my Fitbit and/or Apple Watch)
Apply eye cream twice - once in morning and once at night
Something creative (play song on my keyboard, a page in coloring book, knit for 10 minutes, etc.)
Exfoliate a part of my body: rotate between legs, stomach, arms, etc.
A strategy game to keep me mentally sharp: sudoku, online battle ship with a friend, chess, etc.
No tv/netflix until evening
Call at least one friend or relative a day
Weekly:
Take a luxurious bath 3x a week
Do a clay face mask
Do a peeling face mask
Deep clean and organize one area of my room/apartment
Go on a 2 mi run 3x/week
Do a minimum of one yoga/online YouTube workout per week - ideally more but only if feeling inspired
Wear a “pre-quarantine” outfit in full - jeans, real bra, etc.
Write down something I’m looking forward to after isolation ends
I’m never too hard on myself if I miss one of my daily goals. I made them to make me happy, if doing them gives me more stress than a feeling of accomplishment, I skip it for the day.
I found a lack of routine and “normalcy” makes me feel worse. I know applying pressure to accomplish things or be productive can feel overwhelming in times of uncertainty… but it is more overwhelming to do nothing, imo.
You’ve received enough spam emails and hallow-celebrity-well-wishes to know “these times are uncertain” but that “things will get better.” You have an opportunity to find ways to make yourself happy with virtually unlimited time and zero distractions to interfere with that.
Embrace your wants, needs, emotions, weaknesses, and strengths. Allow your inner self the freedom to expand and develop into your true self ⭐️
Today’s mantra:
I will be gentle with myself today. I forgive myself for having any feelings of frustration, anxiety, sadness, or whatever may come up.
No amount of people you follow will change anything unless YOU want to change. Everything starts with you. You are in charge of your reality, you are the only person who can shape your reality, you are the creator of your world. So what do you want to change?
Success without action is dead. It’s amazing to gain knowledge, it’s amazing to increase your awareness, but the bottom line is how do you use this knowledge afterwards. Do you actually practice what you’ve learned, or do you keep living your ordinary life? Please don’t fall into the self-development trap. You create this trap when you don’t put the knowledge into practice, when you don’t give yourself a chance to test your new abilities.
You are powerful, trust me. You are the only person who can transform your life. Start today, start right now. Every day change something in your life; start small, maybe it will be a gratitude journal, or a habit of daily meditation, or working on your limiting beliefs. There are so many ways to improve your life, but please put the knowledge into practice. It’s good that you’re learning; however, you also have to practice evolving. Knowledge is for the mind, but experience is for the body.
