@simplehousewifelife
Spent the morning planting out winter seedlings of kale, spinach, broccoli and cabbages. I used our old electric chicken fencing to finally fence our garden since the wallabies have been eating every little thing they could find.
Gardening always lifts the spirits and makes me feel alive <3

everyone always says âdonât wait a minute to start living the life youâve always dreamedââŠ
but then I see so many younger women who love the idea of living the simple life and being a wife and mother⊠but they are convinced they need a degree first..??Â
to me itâs likeâŠÂ âokay Iâve just gotta go to uni/college for 3-4 years doing something Iâm kind of interested in and then work for another 3-4 years in a job that is kind of okay⊠and THEN I can do what I really secretly want to doâ
Itâs like us women need to check a box that society has told us is SUPER IMPORTANT and youâre failing womankind if you donât. I used to be afraid of missing this milestone⊠having a degree and a professional career⊠but more and more Iâm proud of following my heart, marrying my best friend, having children and moving to the country.
What Iâm trying to say is that living in the city, both partners working, kids in child care⊠thatâs a recipe for unhappiness, stress and divorce. Being a wife and mother and living a simple life on one income is not only possible, but an extremely satisfying life. If that is your goal then donât waste time doing other things. The money and time is better used going towards your real life goal.
So inspiring that youâre living your dream! Thank you for sharing.
For women who want a simple life, I agree. But for the (in my opinion relatively small) percentage of women who felt trapped in traditional arrangements, forcing them home is going to lead to a divorce. Obviously Iâm not a feminist, and I think feminism creates an even worse reality than forced tradition since fewer people naturally want to rebel against sex conforming rules, but they were right about one thing: there are some people who felt trapped by staying at home.
Basically, I loved this post until the last paragraph. You should NOT get a degree if you just want to be a mom. But also, Iâm convinced the reason my parentsâ marriage is so happy thirty years in is that they both do what they love, and theyâre both with a partner theyâre proud to brag about
I donât know what world you live in, honestly. Itâs like you know nothing of womenâs history. Feminism does not create a worse reality than forced tradition⊠I canâtâŠ
You really think if women who challenged the status quo were a minority that we would have progressed as much as we have? You really think we would have won the battles against patriarchal tradition if most of us were so happy with âtraditionâ? Ha! Women were getting raped and beaten for wanting the vote, women were getting raped and beaten in their homes, they were constantly pregnant. We werenât allowed a fucking education, we were menâs property. Men didnât just hand us these rights because a âminorityâ of us made a good point about being allowed freedoms or whatever the fuck you seem to think?? & Yâall are ungrateful as fuck for the freedoms you are now allowed.
Even anti-feminists often consider themselves egalitarian- you know, thinking they have a right to education (higher education included), a right to a fulfilling career.
The fact that yâall think itâs a bad thing that women arenât deciding that all they want to do with their lives is be a mother and a wife at the age of 18 is honestly terrifying- women should be exploring more options for themselves. What you really want at 18 (before your frontal lobe hasnât fully developed) may not be what you want in 5 years so maybe itâs not a great idea to birth a human that youâll have to take care of for 18+ years. Also because you think itâs what most of us ânaturally wantâ. But thankfully you qualified that that was just your opinion, but maybe you should have clarified it to be an uneducated one.
Lack of equality is literally one of the biggest reasons for divorce, and 69% of divorces are initiated by women.
Ok cool, since people are freaking out about some simple things I said, let me just set this straight. Read the comments if you arenât sure what Iâm talking about.
First of all, no one mentioned 18 year olds... Iâm not encouraging teenagers to forgo education or careers for the pursuit of marriage and motherhood. Itâs not a good idea to marry any guy just so you can have babies. But there are plenty of kind, good-hearted men out there. You can 100% marry someone who you likely will not divorce. You just need to marry your best friend.Â
Of course women should be free to explore their options. They should also be able to choose the option that feels right to them. Including pausing or stopping completely with their education or career to stay at home and raise children. Itâs valid. Also, all you man-haters out there - if a woman in a lesbian relationship decided to put her career/education on hold to raise a child while her female partner worked, would you be so enraged then? Probably not. Youâd probably imagine the working female being so supportive and encouraging the SAHM to do what felt right to her. Well, men can be supportive too. Generous and kind, self-sacrificing. Donât bring your sexism into my world.
Women and men can depend on each other. Iâm just as important to my marriage as my husband is, even though heâs the breadwinner. Stop belittling my role just because I donât make money. Thatâs massively fucked up. I donât value money as much as I value family, I donât know about you. Of course, we need money to survive. But we need less because I stay home. I am also able to minimise our impact on the Earth, something I also value over money. My husband doesnât have it better than I do because he gets to go to work. Why does everyone think this? Stop pitting women and men/husbands and wives against each other. We are a team. Some parts of our roles are great and some parts suck. No one has it perfect.
Everyone saying my husband might DIE. Yes, that might happen. Iâm not stupid and Iâm not encouraging people to not have any fallback options. Everyone can see that risk for themselves. Honestly. I have a diploma in child care, itâs not high paying but I donât mind the work and if I needed to I could start work next week. If I really wanted to I could complete the Early Childhood Education degree I started before having children so I could be a kindergarten teacher here in Australia.
But that was the entire point of my original post. I felt great shame from the messages I got from society for âGIVING UPâ on my own aspirations to be a teacher, to instead be true to my feelings that being a mother was more important to me at this stage in my life. It was a hard decision to make. So donât think I made it lightly.Â
I merely made that post so that if others were in the same boat as me 4 years ago, there would be someone saying âitâs ok, you can go and be a SAHM and you are okay by me.â Because honestly you donât hear that a lot.
âDonât you simply love going to bed. To curl up warmly in a nice warm bed, in the lovely darkness. That is so restful and then gradually drift away into sleepâŠâ

fucked up how cooking and baking from scratch is viewed as a luxuryâŠ..like baking a loaf of bread or whatever is seen as something that only people with money/time can do. Iâm not sure why capitalism decided to sell us the idea that we canât make our own damn food bc itâs a special expensive thing thatâs exclusive to wealthy retirees but itâs stupid as hell and it makes me angry
bread takes like max 4 ingredients counting water and sure it takes a couple hours but 80% of that is just waiting around while it does the thing and you can do other things while itâs rising/baking plus im not gonna say baking cured my depression bc it didnât but man is it hard to feel down when youâre eating slices of fresh bread you just made yourself. feels like everythingâs gonna be a little more ok than you thought. itâs good.
bread is amazing and itâs also been sold to us as something really hard to make? Every time I tell someone I made a loaf of bread I get reactions like âyou made it yourself???â and âdo you have a bread machine then?â I havenât touched a bread machine in probably 10 years. You CAN make your own bread, folks, and itâs actually pretty cheap to do so. I believe the most expensive thing I needed for it was the jar of yeast. It was about $6 at the grocery store and lasted me MONTHS (just keep it in the fridge.) The packets are even cheaper. destroy capitalism. bake your own bread.
You can also make your own yeast by making a sourdough starter, so that cuts cost even more.
But you have to feed the starter daily/weekly and that means it grows quickly, but there are tons of recipes online for what to do with your excess starter. Cookies, pretzels, crackers, pancakes, waffles, you name it!!
Hereâs a link to The Home Baking Associationâs site. It has recipes and tips.
Make it even easier - âNo-Knead Breadâ. All YOU do is mix the ingredients together and wait until itâs time to heat the oven. The yeast does all the rest.
Hereâs @dduaneââs first take on it and the finished product. Weâve made even more photogenic batches since.
Kneading is easy as well; either let your machine do it, or if you donât want to or donât have one, get hands-on. Itâs like mixing two colours of Plasticine to make a third. Flatten, stretch, fold, half-turn, repeat - it takes about 10 minutes - until the gloopy conglomeration of flour, yeast, salt and water that clings to your hands at the beginning, becomes a compact ball that doesnât stick to things and feels silky-smooth.
Hereâs what before and after look like.
My Mum used to say that if you were feeling out of sorts with someone, it was good to make bread because you could transfer your annoyance into kneading the dough REALLY WELL, and both you and the bread would be better for it.
Then you put it into a bowl, cover it with cling-film and let it rise until it doubles in size, turn it out and âknock it backâ (more kneading, until itâs getting back to the size it started, this means there wonât be huge âis something living in here?â holes in the bread), put it into your loaf-tin or whatever - weâve used a regular oblong tin, a rectangular Pullman tin with a lid, a small glass casserole, an earthenware chicken roasterâŠ
You can even use a clean terracotta flowerpot.
Let the dough rise again until itâs high enough to look like an unbaked but otherwise real loaf, then pop it in the preheated oven. On average we give ours 180°C / 355°F for 45-50 minutes. YM (and oven) MV.
Hereâs some of our breadâŠ
Hereâs our default bread recipe - it takes about 3-4 hours from flour jar to cutting board depending on climate (warmer is faster) most of which is rise time and baking; hands-on mixing, kneading and knocking-back is about 20 minutes, tops, and less if using a mixer.
Here ( or indeed any of the other pics) is the finished product. This one was given an egg-wash to make it look glossy and keep the poppy-seeds in place; mostly we donât bother with that or the slash down the middle, but all the extras were intentional as a âready for my close-upâ glamour shot.
I think any shop would be happy to have something this good-looking on their shelf. Weâre happy to have it on our table.
Even if your first attempts donât work out quite as well as you hope, you can always make something like thisâŠ
can we have more posts like this in future please? this is really useful and could help those who are struggling

People who say this is rapey or abusive need to just get a grip, itâs just romance! I love this film <3 The story is so beautiful. Sometimes you just need to not give up! <3
I looove when my boyfriend does this to me â€ïž it makes me feel happy and loved đ€
Both the men and women of today suck in their own ways. We have our faults and vices that sorely need addressing. Weâre heading down a troubling path where misogynist and misandrist attitudes are becoming more normalized and accepted when they absolutely should not be. Iâve seen too many people say such abhorrent things about men and women alike. We are destroying a generation of boys and girls by encouraging this behavior. We are destroying families and relationships and friendships and marriages by encouraging this behavior.
Instead of letting that further divide us like the media and corporations want it to, we need to start doing better for ourselves and each other so that we can start to heal. Men and women need reconciliation, not segregation and nastiness. Women and men need to address toxic behaviors and fix it so they stop traumatizing each other and their children. Iâm genuinely afraid that weâre going down a dark, violent path and that our current culture of pitting women against men and vice versa is going to have severe social and cultural ramifications for a good while.
Reject the mediaâs encouragement of these toxic, misanthropic attitudes/behaviors. Hating the opposite sex is not a quirky little trait that should be celebrated, itâs an ugly disease that will consume and rot away at you as a person and your relationships with others.
I want to try so many little hobbies. Candle making, soap making, basket weaving, wood carving, book binding, baking, weaving, I want to try them all.
