Spider-Man: Far From Home Filming Location Walk Venice
I am currently in Venice for the third time. Each time my sister and I have done a walking tour of some of the filming sites in Venice used for Far From Home.
Every time she suggests I make a post about it, a route and how to find the locations, and everytime I forget until it’s too far from my memory to reliably give the information. Not this time though!! Currently at a laundrette and using the time productively, finally starting this post!!
MovieMaps has been open on my phone for years at this point and has been my main source for finding the locations and provided the shots from the movie I have used for comparison here.
The route we used this time (it has slightly varied every time depending where we were starting from and what we wanted to do after) started from Piazza San Marco and ended at the Rialto Bridge. The stops are therefore arranged to fit that and another order may better serve your purposes if anyone actually wants to recreate this silly walk I have enjoyed repeatedly with my sister.
A. Piazza San Marco
The square is beautiful every time but this time being there for Carnevale it was bustling with people in gorgeous costumes and, when we were very lucky, a small dog in a powdered wig!!
The shot of MJ in front of the Basilica and Palazzo Ducale with the pigeons is iconic. My experiences with the Venice pigeons are definitely less picturesque.
B. Place Riva Degli Schiavoni
I’m not sure this is the right name for where this shot is from, or at least when I type it into Google maps it takes me right to the other end of the long row of similar looking piers.
In reality I think Mr Harrington’s camera was lost at this spot near the Palazzo Della Zecca.
The wooden walkway there seems to be one of the few of them open to the public so if you go at a quieter time or are willing to wait you can get a pic right on the spot of the camera drowning. I only found the right spot on this visit and since it was Carnevale it was busy so I snapped this pic and decided it was good enough.
C. Fondamenta S. Anna
As this spot is a bit further away, it is one we have skipped on our previous visits (both in summer) as neither of us deal brilliantly in the heat, but this time coming in February we ventured further!
I was concerned that the hotel would look completely different in real life but it is definitely recognisable, albeit lacking the HOTEL sign and scaffolding.
I found the best spot to get this angle was on the other side of the Ponte Santa Ana.
D. Canal de le Galeazze
Peter and Fury approach the Arsenal from the other side but from the map it didn’t look like there would be access to the canal to get a view from the north so I settled on a view from the south instead, approaching along Fondamenta Arsenale.
E. Shop on Ramo Calle Larga
The shop is actually on Corte Semenzi, just next to Ramo Calle Larga.
I was surprised to see the shop pop up on maps while I made this post because it definitely wasn't there when we were first looking for it. The first time we went the shop was closed but I was determined and we figured out where it was!! It was recognisable even shuttered up from the view of San Michele.
The second time we went it was open and I was able to buy a glass necklace!! The necklaces were not at all like the one Peter buys in the film and the shop mostly sold art and furniture so I did wonder if the necklaces were a new addition since the film but I was so excited to get it!!
F. Ponte Dei Conzafelzi
This bridge omg. It’s listed on MovieMaps and elsewhere as the Calle Vesier Bridge but every time we tried to search that it took us to some random alley, not even a bridge. With the amount of bridges in Venice, that’s impressive. The first trip after a lot of wandering around and searching the map we managed to find a spot where the canal split like this.
The bridge visible in the scene is the Ponte dei Conzafelzi but the picture is probably best taken by zooming in from the next bridge along, Ponte Minich. I haven’t yet managed to catch it at a time when the shutters are open like in the film. It’s not quite the right angle but it’s the best I could do.
Near here is also the Libraria Acqua Alta which is not Spider-Man related but is a cute bookshop worth a wander!
G. Parrocchia di Santa Maria Formosa
The tower of Santa Maria Formosa is the tower that falls in the Hydro-Man fight. In real life, the top of the tower only has two openings on each side where the tower in the film has three, presumably for better angles on Peter and his heroics.
Around behind the tower, towards the Ponte de le Bande, firstly, make sure not to miss the funny face there. Further around, you get to the “Da Vinci Museum” (not really a museum), which is closed when they try to go in the film. Also, Ponte de le Bande is how they approach the closed “museum”.
H. Ponte Rialto
An iconic bridge worth a visit anyway but also a key part of the Hydro-Man fight! There are a lot of angles of the Rialto in the film but I focused on this angle. I think the still here was taken from out on the water but I was able to get pretty close by walking around the back of the Palazzo dei Camerlenghi.
If anyone got this far I hope you enjoyed reading and maybe someone will recreate our fun little trail!!
I've been resource gathering for YEARS so now I am going to share my dragons hoard
