Accepted!
Congratulations, Lucca. You’ve been accepted for the role of Oz Vessalius. You have 48 hours to make your Oz account. Make sure you send us an ask when you do.
Mod Geta liked reading your characterization of Oz. Mod Danni approved a lot on the occupation you chose for him. We apologize for the delay and look forward to seeing you on our dash.
Name: Lucca Preferred pronouns: He/Him/His Age (optional): 17 Timezone: UTC: - 04:00 Anything about yourself: English is not my first language, but I have been studying it, reading it and writing it for quite a while so while there may be mistakes there won’t be that many. I have 3-4 years of roleplaying experience but have never tried an Alternative Universe. While I’m surely not the best I try to do my best (if that is worth something?). Skype (optional; for admin eyes only, so we can add you to the OOC skype group): --removed- Character’s Name: Oz Voland Vessalius Age and birthday: 20, December 26th Occupation: Currently studying International Relations at Latowidge, he also works at a host club to entertain himself and the others, and is a volunteer at a hospital interacting with sick people, especially children. Location: Reveille. Although he spends most of his time at Latowidge’s dorms for convinience reasons, he has an apartment in where he can spend his free time and take people to when he wants. Nationality: French Three (or more) positive traits and 4-8 sentences of explanation: - Sociality: Oz is a sociable being. He enjoys interacting with people, making new friends, and meeting new people in general. He is quick at finding people to talk with, and can be a good hearer. Because of this, many people grow fond of the male and he can easily be surrounded by many people who are willing to support him. He can easily show a caring side to people even without knowing them much, usually putting other people’s needs before his. He has a good way with words that can leave him as charming, especially around women. - Dedication: Once the male devotes himself to something, he has the determination to do his best at it. He has the ability to focus on a matter and dedicate his time towards it, being it academical studies, fulfilling promises or even getting people to like him. The blond can be quite persistant about what he has gotten his mind into, and being so amazing results can be considered. - Interpersonal Intelligence: While his looks and outgoing personality might not show it a lot, Oz is rather quick at catching up with what others are thinking. With that ability, it’s possible to effectively interact and manipulate them to his own beliefs of what he believes it’s best for both of them. Most of the time (although not all of it) he won’t use this intelligence to benefit himself over others, but to help people to get their feet back on the ground or to feel better because he can feel better by seeing other people happy. - Accepting: He is a person that can come to accept most of the situations easily and quickly. By accepting things, it’s easier to think of good solutions and get a good grasp of situations. He tries not to ponder much (at least orally) about changes or things that are not in his power, making him an easy person to deal with. Oz can also get along with more kinds of people coming to accept their differences and flaws. Three (or more) negative traits and 4-8 sentences of explanation: - Doesn’t handle with rejection well: Oz can get rather upset when he feels someone doesn’t like him or explicitly says it. His rejection complex most likely started with his own father not liking him and grew to an exaggerate level in with he will do anything inside his reach to gain their approval, even when it’s not benefic to himself. The male can arrive at a point in which he will constantly pester people who dislike him until they admit defeat. - Too selfless: Being selfless can be considered a quality by too many people. In Oz’s case, however, this is extremely questionable, especially by the reason on why he is selfless. He has a negative image of himself that was built out of the rejection his father gave him, and because of that, he is willing to sacrifice himself for the most trivial reasons one of the reasons being to stop his own suffering. His self-sacrifice is a way he finds to please himself. - He feels unimportant: Oz has this caring side towards most people he meets, although he can’t bring himself to seek help and fight his own insecurities. There is a feeling that tells him not to let anyone worry about him or his problems, as if they were less important than anyone else’s. The male is a person who can easily pretend that he is happy and calm when he is not feeling well at all, what is negative not to other people, but to himself. Bio (at least three paragraphs, include what the character is doing at the moment) Since the moment he was born, he estabilished a strong bond with his mother, with his father vising them periodically because of her, as a child was never wanted by the man. As an only child, his bond with the woman was quite strong, but unfortunately so she fell ill when Oz was ten years old and passed away from cancer. Since he came from a wealthy family, there were always tutors to teach him school subjects, musical instruments, good-manners and sports. Being homechooled, he didn’t have the chance to interact with other children a lot and very seldom got visited by his only family, his father, who he was always trying to impress without success. Because of this, he got a high fear of being rejected by others and can turn out to be quite depressive if he is not surrounded by people who appreciate him. There were constant dreams about another world, quite mystic, if compared to the one that he existed in. There were always those same faces, of people he truly cared about at those dreams, almost as if they were a memory. Yet, he had never met any of those people. Being quite well-read, Oz naturally knew that it isn’t possible to dream of people who you never met. That was what drove him to Reveille, a city that had a name equal to the one he used to dream about. It might sound rather naive to think that he can see those faces he dreams about in there, although it was something that seemed as if it was worth a try. Using the city’s university as an excuse to move away from his country, the blond was determined to meet those people he seemed to care about so much. Well, it wasn’t as he had much to stick up with in France either way, besides a pet cat he brought along with him. Nowadays he took a part-time-job at a host-club, talking to as many people as he can to see if there is any chance of finding his dream friends — and naturally, as the flirty guy as he is, to meet girls. The male is always looking on helping other people on streets, especially children, and studying International Relations to get even better at communicating and making friends. Roleplay sample (at least 2 paragraphs, IC, third person): He had had another one of those dreams of the other world, and all honestly, he didn’t mind it anymore, not at all. Perhaps it was not normal for other people to have dreams like the ones he did, but most of the time it was quite pleasant, and either way, it had been something he had came to accept at an early age. The male stretched out lazily, thinking about going on his other universe for a few more minutes, then succumbed to the pressure his alarm clock was making with some rooster noises and got out of bed, tucking his shirt into his trousers and getting ready for the day. While studying wasn’t his most favourite thing to do, Latowidge was big news to him, considering he had been homeschooled for his entire life before. Learning was something the blond was quite eager to, always wanting to be the best, but the thing he was looking most forward to the day was to see some pretty girls he had recently met while wandering around the city the other day. After letting out a sigh, he leaned his head on the class windows, wandering when it was going to be over so he could see the girls, and turned out to sight a familiar face (or sorta familiar) wandering around the school’s garden. Was he going crazy or had he met that person at his dream world? Passcode: --removed-

(Participation is optional, but encouraged. Current threads may be dealt with as seen fit. Incomplete threads from Event 1 may be carried on for however long it takes until completion--even if the event officially ends at midnight on the 15th, EST.)
Five hundred years ago, on September 7th, a sparkling city was born. Rich with beauty and the energy of its settlers, Reveille received its name for the idyllic, sleepy forests to its east.
In twenty-four hours, so too will you wake up. We expect the turnout for the annual festival to be better than ever. This year, as always, the festival will be held from the 7th to the 14th. Attendance, of course, is free and optional--even if widely encouraged on the account of our talented chefs, craftsmen and women, and the communal sense of belonging only to be gleaned whilst walking amongst all the familiar faces of our city.
As always, for the duration of the festival, please remember to report all suspicious activity to the police. After all, it is difficult to keep track of anything in such a large crowd. Safety first!
A reminder for our roleplayers to fill the quota of two posts per week!

Congratulations, Angel. You’ve been accepted for the role of Ada Vessalius.
Mod Danni loves how Ada works at a museum and is so interested in the culture of Reveille. The fact that her first words were “big brother” hurt in the best way possible. Mod Geta enjoys the fact that Ada is taking up so many different and that she’s studying for a tourism degree—which seems very cool. We look forward to seeing you on the dash. (And remember you can always talk to both of us about Harry Potter.)

IN CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character’s name: Ada (Vessalius) Valenciano
Age and birthday: 20, June 2nd
Occupation: Latowidge Student, Part time employee at Reveille National Musuem, Volunteer helper at Reveille City Orphanage, Currently looking again for another part time job.
Location: Reveille, Girl’s dorm in Latowidge. Ancestral home in Reveille.
Nationality: Half German, Half American (But her family roots or line can be traced back to either French or Italian)
Three (or more) positive traits and 4-8 sentences of explanation:
Polite – Ever since she was young, Ada was thought by her parents to be polite to others. She harbored the trait in showing good manners and respect to the people she meet. Many times she was praised of her kindness and gentle nature which she humbly thanked them. Never did Ada let their compliments get to her head and continues to be a compassionate person as she is.
Forgiving – Ada is very forgiving. No matter how many times she was hurt or lied to, Ada will always give a smile and forgive others. She was not the kind of girl who will judge a person just because of gossip or saying of others. She knew how people often twist their words to adapt to their own perspective upon an individual.
Faithful – Ada is loyal as she loves her family and friends very much and trusts them whole heartedly. Dedicated to what is right and determined to help those in need. She tries to be open-minded as possible for her to adopt this ever changing world but still, she holds her own beliefs very strong. Ada is obedient to her parents and a loving sister to her older siblings.
Three (or more) negative traits and 4-8 sentences of explanation:
Soft spoken – Most impression of people towards Ada is shy due to her soft voice. During her childhood, she was the shiest among her siblings when it comes to meeting other individuals. Yet once she’s comfortable enough Ada shows her energetic side. She tends not to speak up very well at first, depending on the situation at hand. She may be quiet most of the time since she didn’t want to disturb other people’s conversations.
Fanatic – Like any other fangirl, Ada is an avid fan of any her favorite shows, books and many more. Her loves everything or anything related to magic, sorcery, enchantment, fantasy, fairytales, ghosts, and occult. She has many different fandoms like Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and etc. She even cosplays a lot. Her family may had found it a little obsessive or creepy when they found at the basement of their house a few medieval torture devices.
Meddlesome – There are times that Ada couldn’t help herself to meddle other people’s problems. Involving herself to the concerns of others she doesn’t necessary to do so. She was only trying to help in her own way or power to ease their burdens. She goes to lengths on research and investigative kind of behaviour just to support them.
Bio:
Big brother. Big brother. Those two words were her first words when she was an infact. Her mother and father found it cute that their youngest daughter called out for her big brother. It never occurred to Ada why those were the words she said when her parents told her stories when she was a little girl. How much she recalls her childhood is what she was trying to do since her dreams became vivid day by day.
Ada was raised and love by her loving family. Neither they’re rich or poor as they’re just a simple moderate family household. Her father works for an airline company as an engineer. As the head of the family, he tends to be busy but still he tries to spend as much as he can with his family. Her mother works as a nurse at a local hospital in the city. Ada was proud of her mother saving and supporting a lot of lives when she watched her from time to time during her visits. Both of her older siblings now have their family of their own. They still often see each other since her big brother offered her a part time job at Reveille National Museum and her big sister asked her to come by and help at the orphanage if she wanted to.
Ada never felt alone when both her parents were busy at work and her siblings away with their own family. Her pet cats gave her company. Her father bought them when they went to a pet store. Her eyes instantly found three little kittens; gray, white and black. It was as if she was in a daze when she kept staring at the felines. Ada named them each unconsciously as Dinah, Snowdrop and Kitty. The names stuck to each kitten as they responded to her call, leaving her father no choice but to buy all three.
While studying, Ada took up various of hobbies like playing the piano, embroidery, fencing (just recently since there was this one time when she dreamt she was holding a sword.) and doll making. Now she is a college student at Latowidge, taking up a tourism degree majoring in Culture and Heritage Management. Ever since they had moved to Reveille when she was eight, the nostalgic essence of the city had caught her interests.
Roleplay sample:
“Onii-chan! Onii-chan!” Ada waved towards her brother bringing him lunch that was specially made by her. She heard a tired sigh coming out of his mouth. “Why do you even call me that Ada? We’re not even Japanese..” Her big brother said when he gratefully took the lunch box that she gave to him.
“But it’s cute!” Ever since she had watched a few anime and drama, Ada had been taking notes of the words she had learned. She wanted to learn another language even if it’s just a few words. Soft fit of giggles escaped the blonde’s lip when she saw her brother’s embarrassed state. Not wanting to be teased any longer, her brother usher her to start her duties in the museum. Happily oblige his orders; Ada almost skipped her way to each area of the museum. One of her duties was to make sure everything was in order and each artefact were in its place before she starts her guiding tour around the establishment to the tourists.
It was normal for her to hear the different conversations of people during her rounds. The click of her heels was heard when she walked to an empty room. Only the paintings as her company, her steps slowed, enjoying the fact that this is the room where they kept the paintings that portrayed witchcraft and medieval era. Her hands clasped to together, standing in front of The Salem Witch Hunting painting. Minutes passed. Laughter was heard inside the room. Turning her gaze away from the painting, Ada saw no one inside. She was all alone.
“Hello?” She asked.
The laughter continued followed by soft voices. Ada blinks. One. Two. Three. The room was now occupied by two other individuals. Standing frozen in her place, Ada saw a girl who looks exactly like her. A young maiden with the same golden blonde hair and emerald eyes except her clothes were different. The other was wearing a beautiful green Victorian like dress. Her other self has a companion with her however his image was a blur to Ada’s own eyes.
“Excuse me,” she tried to move closer to them the two vanished when her brother came in to collect her. “Ada your tour group is finally ready in the lobby.” Her brother told her before leaving again to start his work.
“I-I’m coming!” Hurriedly she followed right behind him. Looking back to the room where she saw her vision. “Another dream…” She whispered. It is must be one of her dreams. This dream, this time she was awake when she saw it.

IN CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character’s Name: Gilbert Lockwood [Nightray]
Age and birthday: 24, born on February 5th
Occupation: Part-time bakery worker until he gets himself a steady paying job as a hopeful chef in a restaurant.
Location: Reveille, a small one-room apartment that just fits to his needs and he can pay rent on his own
Nationality: Born and raised in England, but mother has some Italian and German in her lineage while father is English.
Three (or more) positive traits and 4-8 sentences of explanation:
Compassionate: Gilbert is very compassionate about what he does whether it be for his hobby or his work. He isn’t afraid to admit to what he does even if it’s stereotypical for a woman to do such as baking, cleaning, and knitting. He tends to be rather compassionate in what he believes as well. Even if someone tries to question what he does, he look at them like they’re crazy or they’re being far too nosy and walk off. It’s not common for him at all to question what he does, he just does it.
Determined: Gilbert is determined but he’s not a perfectionist determined. Whether he messes up once or twice, he’s still determined to get the job done. He will fight on until he’s satisfied, and sometimes that’s not even enough. He won’t back down even if it’s asked out of him to do so. He’ll feel frustrated with himself if he doesn’t complete the task, whatever it may be. Especially if he fails completely that tends to get to his head at times, so he’ll go back at it just as determined to get it done this time around.
Loyal: Anyone who comes into contact really learns about his loyalty. Gilbert isn’t one to turn against his word especially if it’s someone who means a lot to him as a person. He’s not honest all the time, seeing as if it means something to a person who’s closer to him, he’ll go against the truth. He’ll hold it in until the right moment. Though, he’s the most loyal of friends you could make if he allows you in under his hard shell. He won’t turn against you or break a promise in which he’s made.
Reserved: He’s not a very open person. He tends to keep to himself and anything that seems awkward or vulgar tends to make him squeamish. Gilbert won’t just open up to anyone, or even just be with anyone. Being around too many people makes him feel squished, and he’d rather keep to the sides than out in the open about it. He’s easily embarrassed and flustered over the simplest of things at times.
Straight forward: Even still, Gilbert can be very straight-forward. If someone pisses him off, he’ll let them know. If someone makes him happy, he’ll be open about it. It’s not very often he’s more open on the pleased end of the spectrum. He tends to be more when he’s irritated or angered, not trying to beat around the bush with someone. After all, it just wouldn’t be fair to them at all to believe one thing when it’s completely the opposite. This trait can be both positive and negative for him, though.
Three (or more) negative traits and 4-8 sentences of explanation:
Impulsive: Gilbert won’t think before he reacts in most situations. If the thought is on his mind, he sometimes will say it out loud. If he finds himself in a sticky situations, he’ll do the first thought that comes to mind without really thinking much on his consequences. He learns after it’s gone through, sometimes ending on a positive note or negative note depending on what he does. If he believes it to be just, he’ll act on it. If it might get him out of a predicament, it’s exactly what he does.
Introverted: He is the farthest from being anywhere near extroverted. Any sort of social gatherings or parties make him feel antsy, and by the time he gets home he’s completely exhausted out. He tends to stay toward the edges that out in the open at the center of the crowd. He sits back and watches the world around him than really trying to participate in it. If he does participate it’s usually from someone dragging him out of his comfort zone. He’ll do almost anything to stay away from groups of people, keeping to those small few friends in which he does have. It’s so few, but they know him far better than any large crowd would know him.
Moody: One moment he can be feeling just fine when the next he’s in a slump. No, he doesn’t have a bipolar disorder, but its hard to keep his moody on a steady streak. He tends to hide it most of the time behind a serious expression, preferring to look calm and collected than any other emotions that his body goes under. He’s more open about his emotions when home alone or sometimes with a close friend of his. He doesn’t hold back on showing the fluctuation in his anger/annoyance most of the time with people, though.
Obsessive: Anything that really piques his interest, he can go on and on about in the blink of an eye. Gilbert also proves to be obsessive of people as well. If someone were to really mean a lot to him, he could go on and on about them, never once dropping it so easily for someone else. He doesn’t move on from them as quickly as he could a show or object, since they’re a living and breathing person in his life. He doesn’t realize if someone ever gets tired of him unless they were to outwardly state it to his face.
Quick-tempered: As it goes to show, Gilbert does indeed have a quick temper. Anything is easy to set it off with the flick of a switch if not careful. When flustered or embarrassed, he easily snaps. When something rubs at him the wrong way, it sets him off as well. A lot of things appear to peeve him off, more than they probably should. Sometimes it appears as if he needs to go to some anger management classes, but he’s yet to lash out from his temper, he just yells for a good while until he calms himself down or someone calms him down for him. Some people feel that he’s just an anger person at heart, not that he ever really means any harm by his actions.
Bio: The ground was cold and chilly as stones against bare skin. A shiver passed through the body as hazy eyes shifted around the room. Black lines cut through the vision as it appeared heads were looking in, perhaps laughing or just chatting back and forth. Sight was too fuzzy to make out what was going on around and ears picked up no noises from those surrounding. Everything was a complete blur aside from the slight warm pressed up against his side, fingers interlocked with his own as two bodies clearly together worked to get warm with the fear that wafted around like a strong wave. Scared… yet determination… They’d get out; yes, they’d get out..!
A dream Gilbert became quite acquainted to having throughout his childhood. His parents tended to be too busy with work to spend time with him and his brother, unlike in the past when they’d been so little that their mother always spent time nurturing the two of them up. His mom worked at a business firm as a secretary and his father was a businessman who went on constant business trips around the world. They got to talk through phone calls some nights, most calls not lasting very long due to the differences in time zones. Things got to be quite hectic, but during those days when they could all spend some time together were the ones that Gilbert treasured the most through his childhood. They’d head out to amusement parks or go to see a concert or show that happened to be in town. Otherwise they went places with the nanny that basically raised the two of them up, made sure they got to school on time and had everything they needed. A woman who gave them love even when their parents couldn’t do so very often.
From watching their nanny, Gilbert began to grow a knack for things such as a cooking and cleaning in a growing desire to make sure he could care for his little brother. The two of them were only a year a part by birth, which came from the fact of their parents being able to still spend a good amount of time together during that year in which they still spent raising Gilbert that felt year he was born into the world. By the time he turned nine he started having horrid and vivid nightmares of a blazing fire and blood surrounding him as the building once holding up began to fall to tatters from the flames. What got him the most was the wretched smell of burning flesh and blood that stuck with him throughout the day, as he sure he still smelled the smoke. These nightmares left him practically traumatized for the next years of his life as all he wished to do was forget about them.
Through his preteen ages up through his teenage years, his once shy and jumpy personality took a sudden turn to a more harder outer shell as if something about his life changed drastically on him. When asked about it, Gilbert turned all allegations down. His brother even noticed this change in him, but he didn’t seem to question him at all about it. He started to cover up the dreams he tended to have of growing up in a completely different household with siblings who never treated him right, how he had a will to save whoever this person was who meant so much to him. He hid about his dreams of killing people in cold blood just because he was told to do so, and these strange people in his life with faces he never could make out completely. It was as if he was never suppose to know who they were. Gilbert made it through junior high without a problem, but by the time he hit high school was when he began to his problem.
The teenage took on smoking cigarette to try to forget about these pain filled dreams he continued to have, while trying to keep himself focused on his school work. He didn’t have many friends at all, and tended to not do anything outside of school, staying at home to work on his cooking as he tried to get better and better whether it was perfect or not. Gilbert kept a distance from his brother and his parents even as he was the one left in charge since they’d gotten old enough to take care of themselves without a nanny there. His parents grew more worried about his well-being, but he said he was just fine. He made it by in school even if he wasn’t as great of a student as he used to be back during elementary school and junior high. He only really used his phone for emergencies and his computer he only used to type of assignments that he needed to. It appeared as if he were really keeping away from everyone else around him.
Gilbert graduated high school, and took on a culinary major for college. During these years of his life since he turned 18 until he got to the age of 22, he seemed more calm and collective than he had during the rough days of his teenage years. He gained a few acquaintances when his temper wasn’t off the roof or he didn’t feel to consumed to really speak to anyone at the moment. After all, to be a good chef he needed to communicate with those around him in the kitchen. It was something he needed to learn to do and push himself out to. His dreams still tended to haunt him, but Gilbert made it by on his own. By his third year he moved out of his old home and took up an apartment closer to the school as well as his part-time job to at least make some money. He went from working in a retail store to getting some work done at a bakery to try to help him get a true feeling for his desired goal as a chef.
At the age of 24 he’s at now, he’s still only working at a part-time job at a bakery that’s quite thankful for his help. He’s still on the hunt to get a job as a chef at a restaurant willing to hire him, which has proved to be fruitless thus far. His dreams aren’t as harsh on his body as they used to be in the past as he’s gotten used to them thus far. He still lives in the same little one-room apartment as he lived in since he first moved out of his old house. Sometimes he stays in contact with his brother, but other times not as much.
Roleplay sample: The pan on the stove began to sizzle from the meat, vegetables, and oils placed between the black metal curled up in a circular shape. Hand curled around the handle a distance away from the burners on top as it began to swirl around the food on top before giving it all a gentle toss into the air, allowing food to land back upon the bubbling surface. Golden honey irises watched what he was doing very carefully and precisely to make sure he couldn’t mess up at one point when suddenly the home phone to his apartment began to ring off its stand, buzzing for his attention with the average tone expected from any phone.
A groan passed the raven-haired man’s lips as he placed down the pan carefully on top of the low burning fire as his stir fry would have to wait a good few minutes before he continued to cook his dinner. Pivoting around on his heels, the man headed over the short distance to the counter right behind him to lift up the phone clicking the green button to answer the call for him. Hand flipped around to place the cool object against his ear to hear the voice trying to speak to him after giving a clear, “Hello?” into the receiver.
Standing in silence for a good few minutes, a soft groan escaped past his eyes with a roll of his eyes even if the speaker on the other end couldn’t see what sort of a gesture he gave, even if his reaction seemed to suggest the other knew exactly what he had done in that very minute.
"Yeah… Yeah, I understand, Mom…. No, no, it’s not like I have anyone over! What do you expect out of me? …Yeah, sorry. How about tomorrow then? Ugh, no I can’t just come over tonight! I’m busy, but no one’s over here… Yes, fine. I understand. See you tomorrow."
Pulling the phone away from his ear, he clicked to end the call before placing it back down on its stand. Small shake of that head of ebony strands of hair, he headed back over to the stove where his pan awaited for his return, sizzling and crackling as it had been when he left it. Leaning in slightly closer toward the stove, he took in a breath of the scent wafting off the food. Standing back up straight, once more he allowed a sigh to push its way out of his lungs through his lips. This was getting no where at all as far as he felt concerned by this point in time.
"I just need to be patient…"
If only Mom hadn’t called me so suddenly; I mean, really..!

Congratulations Ilyana. You’ve been accepted for the role of Xerxes Break. Please send us an ask from your Break blog within 48 hours.
Mod Danni loved reading the character traits (because we all need more stubborn, manipulative Break) and your answer for “occupation”. Mod Geta liked the incorporation of Break’s lost eye into this AU. We look forward to seeing you on our dash.
ok here we go sorry if some of this is repetitive since i only changed the things i had to!!! i would have gotten this in sooner but something happened and i accidentally took a nap and wound up sleeping all day instead

IN CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character’s Name: Xerxes Break Age and birthday: 26, September 30th Occupation: Officially, he’s a criminal profiler, but he tends to involve himself in other sorts of detective/police work too. Everyone he works with hates it, including literally every single person higher up than he is, but he’s also sort of really good at what he does. Break’s employment is a touchy subject for everyone around him. He’s also a bit of a vigilante, which he’s done a very good job of not letting anyone he works with find out yet. Because that would get him fired for sure, right? Location: He lives in Reveille, in a very small apartment that only has three rooms, although they’re all decently sized. His foster caretaker often worries about him, offering that he can always just move back in with her, but he assures her that it’s fine. It’s sort of nice living in a smaller place for once. Nationality: No one’s quite sure. He’s certainly pale enough to be of some sort of European descent, but he’s the sort of guy that seems like he’d sort of fit in anywhere. He likes to think of himself as European, specifically English, as lots of his favorite literature comes from that area of the world.
Three (or more) positive traits and 4-8 sentences of explanation:
Smart: Break was always quick to figure things out, whether it’s some sort of crime, where a missing object wound up, the plot of a book, or anything else. His smarts have gotten him pretty far in life. He would have been a straight A student in high school if not for the fact that most things taught in the regular school curriculum were more than boring to him. Because of that, he tended to slack off at some points. He’d refuse to hand in homework, get scolded by the teachers, and then proceed to ace every test. I mean, who does’t know how to name every bone in the human body in order? Thankfully, once he got into what he considered to be real education, his participation got considerably better. And, eventually, those good old smarts of his landed him a nice, good job in an area he absolutely adores; an area that needs smart guys like him.
Inquisitive: Break is very curious about a lot of things. His own past, for one; aspects of crimes that aren’t necessarily essential in cracking a case and imprisoning the baddie. This often leads to new ways of thinking that others hadn’t considered, new evidence in cases, and really just learning more about everything in general. His curiosity also leads him to have some rather strange beliefs about life in general, as well as his place on this earth. Why was I lead to these people, he wonders sometimes… Why do the strangest of things seem so familiar to me? Did I know something like this before? But that would have been impossible. I mean, why would he know so much about swords at the age of five? The belief in past lives interests him greatly, and while he knows that it’s near impossible, he spends a lot of his time pondering about it.
Manipulative/Good at pushing buttons: While any normal person would consider these things to be solely negative, Break manages to do a lot of good with these abilities. For one, it makes it very easy for him to get the answers he wants out of people, which is especially important when anyone that poses a threat to Break’s makeshift family is involved. He tends to protect the people he love with these skills, whether they know about it or not. It, of course, also does him a lot of good in his job. To catch a criminal, you often need to think like a criminal, and let me tell ya. Break’s pretty good at that.
Three (or more) negative traits and 4-8 sentences of explanation:
Stubborn: While a majority of his stubbornness is part of the elaborate act that makes up his unique personality, it’s also a danger to himself (and arguably, to those around him) at times. It’s rare for him to inform his “mother” when there’s something wrong in his life, whether it’s something to do with his job, health, or anything that involves solely him. If he were to suddenly lose his job, he would’t tell her. No need to make her worry. He’d just go searching for a new one, giving excuses here and there as to why things seem a little off, all smiles as usual. Going blind? Not a problem. He knows his way around. Really, it’s fine. Everything is fine. He refuses to ask for help when he needs it, often denying his own incapabilities to himself.
Inquisitive: Break’s curiosity isn’t solely a good quality. It gets him in to trouble more than often, and some might consider that it does more bad than good in his case. His need to know all of the answers doesn’t always get him into the best of situations. Thankfully, he knows his way around a street fight or two, despite the fact that he can’t remember where he learned to fight like that. Especially in that style. Maybe he should invest in some sort of cane to start swinging at people in defense instead of stumbling around looking for the nearest branch or broomstick to use instead. Actually… nah. He can’t just be handing out hints about his loss of one of his senses, right?
Suspicious/Twisted: His strange habits and personality were always a problem, even as a child. Teachers and onlooking parents would be concerned about his mental being. Other kids thought it strange and unsettling that he talked loudly and openly to a doll that could have been straight from some sort of horror film. He’s been labeled many things in his life. Deranged, unstable, sociopathic, schizophrenic, and so on. Whether he really is any of those things? It’s likely we’ll never know. And with the way he is, it isn’t uncommon for Break to wind up in a holding cell, suspected of a crime he was investigating before someone who recognizes him realizes the mistake.
Easy to bore/The enjoyment of causing others to experience certain emotions/reactions such as confusion, frustration, embarrassment, etc: While becoming bored easily is not a direct problem, the behavior that Break often chooses to follow this by is what really causes trouble. He often begins to bother others when he’s bored, and depending on who the subject is, it can cause some real problems for others. For example, he enjoys seeing people think, and depending on a person’s temper and personality, this doesn’t always end well when you take into consideration his riddle-y way of explaining things and dropping hints. Seeing (or technically, mostly hearing) people confused and frustrated by his speech patterns and general personality is just divine. And while it’s rare for him to warm up to someone, if he ever does, it’s awfully fun seeing the aforementioned person.
Sweet tooth: His sweets addiction may seem like a problem free craving, and he certainly thinks of it that way, but it’s bad news for anyone within a mile radius who happens to like sweet things as well. It’s almost dangerous to tell Break when the rations of candy and little cakes are restored, and even if you manage to keep this from him, it’s only a matter of time before he finds out and drinks them dry. A good lot of his salary goes to feeding this addiction of his, too, which is never a good thing. He could be saving up for something that he doesn’t devour in a matter of seconds, but instead… you get the idea.
Bio (at least three paragraphs, include what the character is doing at the moment):
Found in a rather unruly state by an elderly woman when he was about six, Break is unsure of his life before that. Just that his “mother” found him with a white, cloudy left eye that didn’t have a single trace of sight left in it. Thinking about his past too much tends to give him severe migraines and unsettling visions that come to him in his dreams. Perhaps memories, he thought at first, but as some of the scenes depict him at ages older than six in a strange, confusing reality, it’s likely that they’re only that. Visions; delusions and obscure thoughts and suspicions about himself and his life born from his inability to let that six year memory gap go and live a happy life.
While he was essentially adopted, he doesn’t necessarily take the role of of a son. Ever since he was about twelve, he took to the habit of calling his caretaker “milady”. Having a parent seems strange to him, somehow; foreign. Seeing other kids with adult caretakers is fine. Everyone else looks so natural, even that one adopted kid down the street, but Break? It just seems too good to be entirely true. Like some kind of fleeting dream.
Break works locally as a criminal profiler, and a little more than that on occasion. If you were to ask him to specifically state what he does for a living, the chance of getting a straight answer is incredibly slim. He spent a large amount of his time reading. Classics, mostly. Some Huckleberry Finn here, some of Steinbeck’s works there. His favorite, though, has always been Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and it’s wonderful sequel. He has them memorized almost word for word. But now, well.
He’s been going blind for a long time now. Maybe about seven months at this point. It’s progressed quicker than anyone would ever think, especially considering his age, and it’s to the point where all he can really see are blurs of color and the vague shape of objects. He has yet to tell his foster mother about this. It’s fine. He’s fine. It’s really no big deal. He’s only told a few people at work about this so they can give him important details about suspects and criminals that he might need to know about, and he demands that those few people tell no one and treat him the same as before. And, really, it’s too hard for his coworkers to do that for him. It’s almost hard for them to believe that his vision is impaired at all with the way he acts and navigates.
It isn’t rare to see him with one of his books now, anyway, usually while listening to an MP3 player equipped with the audio versions while doing so. But, of course, if you ask him about it, he’ll tell you he’s listening to some classic music. How wonderfully Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata goes with this chapter! And how perfectly Chopin’s Funeral March matches the setting the characters find themselves in at this point of the plot!
Roleplay sample (at least 2 paragraphs, IC, third person):
How long had it been now? Months, at the very least. But it seemed longer than that. Much longer. Although, maybe that wasn’t quite the word he meant it to be. It felt like he’d been like this more than the few months he had been, yes, but the handicap, something that surely must have been a serious and devastating affliction to overcome for most people, seemed almost familiar to him somehow. Like he’d been through this before, or something of that sort. An impossible feat, of course, but an equally impossible feeling to shake. The same way he knows his way around a sword even though he’s only touched one once, maybe twice in his life.
It was just all too natural to him, once his remaining sight started to fade. In some ways, it was almost easier to see things than before. His other senses heightened quicker than he’d thought they would. Within days he was navigating better than he ever could have dreamed. For once, he recovered himself before that pesky cat could trip him on his way to work. He finds his way to his office in record time, too. Or, he assumes he does, anyway. It feels like he does, despite the fact that the numbers displayed on the front screen of his phone are impossible to decipher.
So maybe this is how he was always supposed to be, he wonders vaguely to himself as he sits at his desk that morning. After all, he was found with one blind eye, wasn’t he? So if the sight in his other eye fades away completely, so be it. He feels a light smile come to his face as he thinks about that, kicking his feet up to lay across his desk. (And was that the sound of someone scowling from the hallway?) Any normal person was sure to be concerned at all of this happening to them, especially so quickly, but for Break, it was sort of… what’s the word he was looking for? A relief? But that wasn’t quite it either. It just sort of felt like, well. It felt like he was finally who he was supposed to be.
