Are Your Attachments Holding You Back?
I want you to take a moment and think of everything that you are attached to.
If you don’t think that you’re attached to very many things or people, I really want you to think again.
Absolutely everything you touch, think about, or see, takes up your energy. When you give your energy to something, you are attaching yourself to it, if even for a moment.
Lets start with the people and things that consume your thoughts. Are the thoughts about these people and things good thoughts? Are they realistic thoughts? Are they healing or damaging? Any time you have a thought about something, you are attaching yourself to that person or thing and associating your identity with it.
[By releasing counter-productive thoughts of people who no longer do you any good, or self-defeating memories of the past, you can move one step closer to living a more happy, and fulfilling life. It feels great when you start to live with the mentality of “I do, therefor I am.” When you live in the present moment, then you can release self-defeating thoughts about who you have been. Who you have been doesn’t matter. Truly, all that matters, is what you are doing in this very moment.]
Who are the people you associate with? Are they conducive to your achieving your full potential? Do they inspire you? Do they encourage you to be a better person? Or do they hold you back? Do they discourage your freedom of expression? Do you feel restricted from being who you really are when you are with them? Do you feel afraid to share your goals with them?
[I encourage you to surround yourself with people who support you in achieving your mission of reaching your fullest potential. I also encourage you to rid of anyone who doesn't accept you for exactly who you are. It’s not selfish to rid of people who don’t care about you. Whatever you give off, you will attract, and so by respecting yourself and being yourself, you will attract like-minded people who respect you. ]
Now take a look at your home. How much money are you spending on clothes, accessories, cleaning products, home items, furniture, food, decorations, beauty products, electronics..etc..etc? How much of it do you really need? Do you have old decorations, clothes, or random items that you don’t use anymore? How much money are you spending on unnecessary bills? How much trash are you throwing away every day? How long does it take you to clean your home?
[Not only do you spend time working for the money for the items you choose to own, but you spend time using them, keeping up with them, throwing them out, and replenishing them. It is baffling how much more time you can have if you donate things that are no longer important to you and become more selective about the items that you buy. ]
How long does meal prep take you? Are the foods that you are eating, giving you energy and helping you live a healthy, fulfilling, and productive life? Or are they slowing you down?
[Your body is your temple. By filling it with healthy foods, you are giving yourself the energy and nutrients that you need to be motivated and happy! I choose to keep my meals as healthy and simple as possible. This way I don’t spend as much time eating, and have more time to do things such as..OooOh..spend time in nature and read books about self-fulfillment and happiness. :) ]
How much time do you spend on social media every day? Are you using social media as a means to connect or a means to fill empty space? To procrastinate? Or even worse, to escape an emotional problem?
[Social media can be a beautiful thing. I love that I can keep up with family members and friends that I rarely get to see. I also love that I can keep track of local events that are happening around town. There are so many things to do and discover on social media. The possibilities are really endless, but with that said, the time spent on social media can become endless as well. Moderating your time spent on the web can allow you to get out of your computer/smartphone/tablet, and into the real world. Might I recommend the time management and productivity app, Forest. With it, you get to grow cute trees as you do productive things with your time.]
What are you watching and listening to? How does it make you feel? What does it encourage? Does it make you feel happy and good about yourself? Do you schedule in quiet time?
[Surrounding ourselves with motivating, inspiring, relaxing, cheerful music and entertainment will, of course, make us feel more relaxed, inspired, and cheerful. Being more mindful of what you’re watching and listening to will have a great impact on your mood. I also encourage you to have shut-down time. This time can be however long you want it to be, and can be spent either meditating, reflecting, or simply appreciating the silence. This can be done anywhere, whether its in the car, sitting in traffic, in the bathroom, or on a walk in the park. Giving yourself this time can be extremely helpful in keeping you centered and at peace.]
Do you have bad habits that are excessive and unhealthy? Drinking, smoking, drugs, over-eating, porn?
[Replace your old-habit with a new, healthy habit. Every time you want to do the old habit, replace it with the new one instead. Make people aware that you want to quit your habit. Stay away from it in anyway that you can and anyone who may encourage it. Don’t give yourself any excuses. By giving into your habit you are preventing yourself from being happy. You deserve happiness, and owe it to yourself to quit any bad habits that prevent you from fully loving yourself. ]
How do you identify yourself? What labels do you attach to yourself? Are you competent? Are you full of potential? Are you brave? Are you lazy? Are you insecure? Are you depressed? Are you endlessly learning and growing, or are you constantly being held back?
[Anything that anyone or yourself has ever labeled you or referred to you as, clear it from your memory banks right now... Today you are starting as competent, influential, endlessly full of potential, beautiful, and motivated. What we do, cannot be done, unless we tell ourselves that we can do it. (Read that line again.) And so what we call ourselves is extremely important. Attach positive labels to yourself, believe them, and act them out. Every second is a new chance to do so.]
Who owns your self worth? Is it you, or the people around you? Do you care what other people think about you? Do you achieve what truly makes you feel happy? Do you achieve what other people expect you to achieve? Do you achieve things because they will look good on paper? Do you feel guilty for pursuing things that make you happy?
[Attaching your self-worth to your peers, your family, or to the man is a great way to keep yourself running in circles. Going after what you truly want, and being every bit of you really are can be extraordinarily scary. It takes a lot of bravery and a lot of self-love, but I can guarantee that doing what you love is the key to happiness. And no, living for yourself isn't selfish. You needn’t feel guilty or bad for doing the things that you love. You only have one life in that lovely soul of yours. Don’t let anything take your happiness away from you. Do what makes you happy, because it is what you were put here to do. Whether it’s an interest, a mission, a talent..etc..etc. Whatever it is that gets your heart burning was placed there for a reason. Embrace it. Embrace you.]
And so with that said, let go of those attachments. Let life. and Let love.
