The way Luka stayed absolutely obsessed with Abby for years after their breakup and the way Carter, after years of whining all the time, barely spoke to her after theirs speaks volumes
Top 50 Luka and Abby Moments #23
The wedding of our beloved duo has moments to love and moments to hate. But if there's one moment at any wedding thats stands out it's the first dance. The same is true at this particular wedding.
Discourse around the wedding is varied with takes from "perfect fairytale" to "bad fanfiction" all popping up in equal measure.
Whether you love it or loathe it, there is something to be said for this show--the show that would rather drop a helicopter on you than have you transfer to a new job--allowing a moment of pure happiness. To paraphrase Neela's cut line from the script, "they let them have it. Which is really saying something.

I was listening to the Rihanna song, "Stay" when I got the idea for this. The title of the fic and the first chapter are taken from there.
Hi! Idk if you have sent me a messages on discord but I have to create a new account. I am completely locked out of both discord and the email I used to set it up so I can’t even reset my discord password. It’s a mess. So I’m not ignoring you! I just haven’t been on in a LONG time if you did send me any messages!

BACK IN TIME TUESDAY
In these difficult times I consider it my mission to provide a daily reminder of someone truly gorgeous.
Hello everyone, everywhere, hope your future days will be as you would wish them to be in these chaotic times.
Top 50 Luka and Abby Moments #27 (pt 4)
If there's one thing we know if there is a door with Luka Kovač behind it, Abby Lockhart will knock it on it. Regardless of what time is it, regardless if someone else is there.
And the door will open.
The next entry comes from Season 10, Episode 4, "Shifts Happen".
Insincerely invited to dinner by Gillian, Abby has no qualms showing up up to Luka’s at 10:01 p.m. She also has no problem staying during and after Gillian says her goodbyes (thought there's obvious jealousy). But I guess if a guy bought an apartment in a building he knew I liked just so I would move in with him, I'd probably feel inclined to stay and go as I chose, too.
They take a walk along the river and talk about Luka’s recovery. He's on the mend, though not quite there. He misses the Congo. He explains how it feels to be over there, but Abby doesn't quite get it. Luka realizing it's a situation that one can't grasp unless they've been there. They talk about Abby’s breakup and it's very clear that the dark clouds are moving out of her sky. Luka just wants to know if she's happy.
She almost shares her news, but in typical Abby fashion, she doesn't want to jinx herself. He'll know soon enough, anyway. Although I'm pretty sure if she had told him, he would've paid her tuition then and there.
A night of deeper reconnection is thwarted by Abby’s pager. She's needed back at County. Unfazed and wanting to hang out, Luka tells her to pretend she didn't get paged. Something tells me they've both done it before, perhaps on walks along the river in days past (!headcanon).
Abby can't stay, citing money woes. Luka nods and in a stare and a smile that launched 1000 fanfics, he aska her "So I'll see you soon, then?"
No one will ever convince me that Nicholas Sparks wasn't taking notes for Dear John.
Abby stares at him for a few more seconds before taking her leave.
And you'd have to be blinder than an eyeless bat not to see the reconciliation coming.
They literally just spent 20 seconds staring at each other. You can practically make out Joe's head in their irises.
It's a testament to the actors' talent and chemistry that they so much while saying nothing.
Friendship very much intact. Feelings bubbling under the surface, if there was one moment that taught hope, it was this one.
Top 50 Luka and Abby Moments #27 (pt 3)
It is very rare that everyone else is having a bad day and Luka and Abby aren't, but that is exactly what we get in Season 12, Episode 21, "The Gallant Hero and the Tragic Victor"....
With the news of Michael's death richocheting around the ER and Clemente coming apart at the seams in front of everyone, Abby has taken to hiding.
Luka, upon finding her, immediately goes to comfort her. Her disbelief over at Michael's death instantly reminds us that he's not just Neela's husband. He's the eager, but green medical student who once tried to ride her coattails, the innocent bystander caught up in the tension fueled chaos of "Secrets and Lies" and the noble, yet naive soldier who, as Luka predicted, could not fully separate his identity from his duty.
Seeing how affected Abby is, Luka offers to let her go home. But Abby hesitates knowing that Neela is in no position to work and Clemente is wreaking havoc.
After briefly commiserating the situation, Abby seeks solace in Luka’s arms suggesting they take a vacation before the baby is born. If only they had.
Realizing they have each other when everything is falling a part is truly a full circle moment of peace for them. One they're finally allowing themselves to have and believe in.
Top 50 Luka and Abby Moments #27 (pt 2)
Turnabout is truly proven to be airplay when Abby finally gets revenge on Luka for all caffeine-induced disturbance of her sleep in absolutely adorable scene from Season 12's "Split Decisions".
Restless, wired, excited and nervous, Abby is far too amped up to sleep, which means despite coming off an overnight shift, Luka won't be sleeping either.
After some attempts to lure her into slumber (which Abby dodges with ease), Luka realizes it's not happening and ever aware that her restless state is entirely his fault, he dutifully forges all notions of his rendezvous with the Sandman, and turns to listen to her thoughts. Her many, many, many thoughts about their impending parenthood.
What is everyone going to say when they find out? Sidebar: Actually, we don't know. Only the reaction of Sam, Morris and Weaver are shown, but considering how no one in the hospital seemed the least surprised by them getting back together, I'm guessing the same "it figures" attitude applied to the news of their baby.
Abby doesn't want to tell people too soon. But Luka’s eager beaver black Labrador ass has sent that ship sailing across the Atlantic and into the Adriatic by telling his father.
Abby definitely doesn't want to tell her mother too soon. And in Maggie's case "too soon" is roughly 15 years.
But her fear of the mother-daughter dynamics are temporarily stayed by Luka grinning and giggling like a happy happy fool.
They're going to have a baby. And for a second, they just enjoy the moment. As do we all.
But the moment of cuteness fades as Abby’s restlessness and hunger takes over. She wants a Pop Tart and while I believe Pregnant Abby should get whatever she wants, gotta love a man who gets out of bed just to make you breakfast.
It's a true moment of domestic comfort, of peace and of joy. There are no high stakes, for once life and death isn't hanging in the balance, and they are free to wallow in the hope of things to come.
Top 50 Luka and Abby Moments #27
Well it wouldn't be Luka and Abby if there wasn't angst. This scene from season 9, Episode 20, "Foreign Affairs", is one of the most heartbreaking, revealing, beautiful that there is.
It's been a triumphant day for Luka after months of distress, bad decisions and depression. Its been another terrible day in a growing pile of terrible days for Abby.
They find themselves in the doctor's lounge, Abby’s trying to find Carter in a futile attempt to make amends and Luka's leaving for the day.
Sensing her obvious distress, Luka inquires if everything is ok. Abby shakes her head in the negative and rolls her eyes as if to say "when is it ever?" Fair point as the last time things were truly "ok" between her and Carter, the only other option was potential impending death from orthopox exposure.
After offering him brief congratulations, she looks at him, perhaps expecting him to inquire more. But Luka isn't interested in hearing about her relationship woes, digging for something to exploit or inserting himself in situations that are none of his business.
Realizing that silent solidarity is all he's offering, she retreats telling him she'll see him tomorrow.
Except she won't. And her horrible day gets worse as he reminds her that he's leaving for the Congo.
With her brother spiraling, her mother out of state and her relationship crumbling, Abby realizes she's losing another person she could turn to. Her disquiet is apparent as she forlonly tells him she didn't realize he was leaving so nod. His nod of confirmation both of his impending absence and their absence from each other's lives leads right into a hug of farewell--the only comfort Abby has had all day.
They both stop themselves from lingering too long in a hug that's not meant for exes or friends.
Abby tells him to take care of himself and he smiles sadly at her politeness because they have to be polite again. Nothing less and most importantly, nothing more.
After telling her to hold down the fort, he takes his leave with all delusion of greener grass withering in his wake.
It's beautifully done, heartbreakingly poignant and makes me wish that all their drama was about to end within five minutes.
Top 50 Luka and Abby Moments #30 (pt 3)
One simply does not wake up Abby Lockhart without caffeine. A fact Luka Kovač knows all too well and adheres too most fervently as demonstrated below in the excerpt from Season 8 Episode 16, "Secrets and Lies.
One also does not need to yearningly carress someone's cheek in order to check the swelling under their eye. As a medical professional, Luka knows this, but he's less adherent to this one.
Abby is sleeping on Luka's couch, taking refuge from her assailant, and Luka, is very very bad at hiding his enthusiasm. He's like Bingley salivating over Jane's extended presence even though she's ill with his loud coffee grinding, concierge like attentiveness snd longing stares. Abby as is her way, tries very, very hard to be unaffected except for when she stares at him too long.
Makes you wonder if either one of them had just said what they were clearly thinking...
Top 50 Luka and Abby Moments #30 pt 2
If there's one scene that is a complete microcosm of Abby and Luka's relationship, it is the next entry from Season 7, Episode 16, "Witch Hunt."
Abby is facing a crisis, a kidnapping on her watch. As usual she's turning fatalistic and totally self-loathing.
Luka's protective nature of her is immediately on display with him wanting her to first stay warm and second remove herself from the distressing situation.
At first he simply asks, gently suggesting she get some space, then he throws in some playful workplace banter. Both of which she quickly rebuffs. Undeterred by her brush off, he simply says "I want you", which has way more to do with their relationship than her nursing skills. It's literally the first time we hear him vocalize his feelings.
Abby, used to her mother’s manic, frenzied declarations of love which were often followed by outbursts, tangents and all manners of letdown, still can't fully let him in. She asks to be left alone, giving him one more chance to walk away and leave her to her shadows.
He doesn't.
He, in fact, can't. Which is what he tells her, reaching out to touch her and let her know that he's not going away.
Then and only then does her armor crack.
It's his willingness to let her be while being there for her that makes all the difference.
In the end, Abby is still standing in the same spot. But she is not alone. And when she does decide to leave, he'll be there.
Top 50 Luka and Abby Moments # 30
Entering the top 30 is where almost all the scenes deserve frame by frame analysis. Starting out with the penultimate Christmas moment, landing at number 30 is a bittersweet scene from Season 13, Episode 10, "City of Mercy".
It's very rare that Luka and Abby share moments of vulnerability. One is usually strong while the other depends on that strength. Here, Luka has been troubled by the external threat of Ames, but Abby’s concern is what that alarm means for them internally. Without directly saying it, they both reveal how much being together means to them. Abby is terrified of them losing their way again. Luka is determined to never let that happen. This scene would probably rank much much higher if not for the glaring continuity error. But hey there's still plenty of beauty in the moment.
