The war is over, blood and ash. Aemond sits on the thrown.
It ended with Lucerys holding his brother, Aegon the younger in his arms, shielding his eyes as Aemond called for Vhagar to end their mother's life in dragon fire.
Aemond called for the guards, Lucerys thought they were next. He held his sobbing brother closer. But then they were dragged into a room in the royal quarters. Thrown into a room surrounded by guards.
Looking up he met the light eyes if Aegon ll two surviving children. Lucerys expected a dungeon. Not to be locked in the safety room. Where the Hightowers put their most treasures possessions.
He turned to look at Aemond. "Why?"
Aemond glared with his one good eye. "Because of the war your whore of a mother started, the last of the Targaryen blood line is now in this room. Two little boys. One little girl. Me, an alpha. You, an omega. I think you can figure out the rest, nephew."
Lucerys could feel his blood run cold even as his face heated. "I will not bare you a child. I would rather...."
That's when Aemond rushed him, his barely controlled anger snapping as he ripped Lucerys from his little brothers arms, pinning him to the wall by the neck, tearing his thin shirt from his body to expose his naked flesh.
"You will do as I say, bastard. You will care for Jaehaera and Maelor as if they were your own. You will give me an heir and a child for every one of my family your mother murdered. You will not know what it feels like to not be heavy with child. And if I command it, you will spread your legs right here and now for me to fill you. If you do not, the next time you wake up, Aegon will be gone. Do you understand, nephew?"
Lucerys looks at the frightened and teary eyes of Aegon, Jaehaera and Maelor. They are innocents in all of this and don't deserve to hear all these venomous words.
In that one way, him and Aemond deserve each other. He made Aemond a monster and now he had to pay for his mistakes.
He nods, holding back tears and bile, sadness and rage. "Yes, uncle."
"It's Your Grace now, bastard."
"Not husband? Do you plan on filling me with your bastards then?"
Aemond's grip on his neck tightened. He could barely breathe. He didn't care. He had something Aemond needed. His body. His womb. His Targaryen blood.
"I am not as deceitful as your mother. Once I know you can bare me a child then I will marry you under the Faith of the Seven."
The idea of not being wed under the gods of old Valyria makes Lucerys feel sick but it matters little to him because any marriage to Aemond would not be one that he would want the old gods to bare witness to.
"And if I can bare you a child and we marry, then am I to be your queen. Because this is not how you treat your queen."
"You will have the title and when I deem in necessary, I will parade you around so the court and every other kingdom can see that the Targaryen blood line still holds strong. But don't think you will ever be anything but my prisoner, Lucerys. Do you accept or must there be more Targaryen blood shed?"
Lucerys didn't have a choice. Either surrender his body to Aemond, become little more than his broodmare or let his little brother die.
"I accept."
Based on the main theme of this post and @iucemond post about this post.
..........................................................................
Aemond did not think much of it at first.
His children, who had once been quietly playing in their chambers, were now moving about frantically all over the place. Calling the servants, their nannies and taking some items out of their own rooms.
Things like the clothes they had outgrown or the stuffed animals and dolls they no longer played with.
"It's for the new baby," Alicent had told her, holding in his tiny hands one of the dragon stuffed animals that had once belonged to Haelena I. "Mummy won't be able to put his room together anyway, so we'll put it together for him," he mentioned, keeping the old doll from touching the floor at all costs, "Or so Haelena says, she understood Mummy better.
Couldn't Lucerys put it together? Well, it was a long birth, too long, much heavier than the twins'.
"Don't worry about the room, once your mother recovers he can do it himself" he tried to tell his daughter, who seemed impatient at his presence "Just go play and-"
"Silly father, mother won't be able to; the maesters say only one can leave that room" his daughter replied, looking at him as if he were the one with the two heads "Mother says the baby's room must be ready by now. So only the baby will come out, I’m late for the making process!"
And without allowing him to reply or anything, he could only listen as Alicent was called by Aegon and Otto, who already had Haelena carrying more blankets and toys to one of the empty rooms. Her children at the sight of him ran with all they could carry in their hands.
And as if it all came as an ice-cold blow to his face... now he understand.
Without thinking too much, he ran in the opposite direction as fast as his legs could carry him.
He crossed and leapt down the stairs of the entire palace, going to the wing where Lucerys was being treated. The cries of the maisters, the midwives and various servants could still be heard, along with the cries of the omega.
Was it not too late? If there were still screams from the attendants and Lucerys himself, that meant he had arrived in time, didn't he?
Just for a moment, he allowed himself to fantasise a little, as he felt himself getting closer and closer to the room where Lucerys was staying.
He imagined him with Lucerys, watching their children grow up, watching he would smile as he danced at their children's future birthdays. He would take him for a ride, flying through the air to spend time together; he sees himself talking with him about important decisions, he sees himself eating cake. They can even be seen together, naming the new baby Jace.
He can be seen, almost as if it's going to happen soon, himself making up for everything he put his husband through. Giving him to Lucerys Velaryon as the King's Husband.
He could see himself and his omega ruling together.
But then he doesn't see anything, and the fantasy shatters like glass.
But with only a short time to go... there was the loud and clear cry of a baby.
All was silent, until, along with the cry of the new baby, the piercing scream of one of the maids competed with it.
And as if in his legs had cogellated for the first time in his life... everything seemed to slow down.
And he could see it, see the clarification of everything that happened in there.
One of Lucerys' most loyal handmaidens, she came out of that room as if she were fleeing the slaughterhouse and not a birthing room. Her skirts and arms were drenched in crimson liquid, screaming and crying, staining the entrance to the room, calling for sheets and more water.
He ignored her, or at least tried to when he managed to force his body to move to that spot. If he felt a murderous look on the back of his head, he chose to ignore it.
He could see the serious face of the maester, giving him a short bow as he noticed him inside the place, trying to get in and out of the only bed in the place. The whole room was a mess. Blankets and cloths soaked in all sorts of fluids, pots full of dirty water... everyone looked like they had just come out of the war.
Without a care in the world he walked over to where everyone was gathering, only to fall to his knees as the maesters covered his husband's face, while others wrapped him in white cloaks and cloths while the few exposed body parts were delicately cleaned by the new jars of clean water that were arriving.
All seemed silent, or at least he felt it was.... until he could again hear the muffled cry of a baby.
Trying to find out where it came from, one of the midwives approached him. The same midwife who had attended to the arrival of each of his children, the one who had attended to him and his younger siblings, the same midwife who had made sure that his late nephews arrived safely.
Now, she was holding his last baby.
"Healthy, without blemish my King" she said in a firm voice, but the fragility of the words was there, as was the almost non-existent trembling of her wrists as she held the weeping bundle in her old hands "breathe well, omega, an omega male."
And his heart stopped beating as he saw his son for the first time.
Dark hair, still too early to define but he could tell it would be wavy, fair skin and flushed cheeks. With sweet lips like candy buttons and chubby little fingers. As if the baby noticed he was being watched, he opened his eyes, revealing to him the most beautiful brown eyes that were all too familiar.
The exact copy of Lucerys, his beautiful, beautiful Lucerys was looking back at him.
Lucerys was recorded by the nobles as the only omega son of King Aemond Targaryen.
He was the youngest of his sons, the only omega and the last son Aemond ever had. After Lucerys he refused to have any more children or even to get a new wife or husband.
Lucerys, second in name, son of King Aemond and of the, newly registered after his death, omega consort Lucerys Velaryon. The adoration of all in the palace.
Lucerys was the most pampered of brothers, servants and knights, a ray of sunshine and joy to those who had the grace and joy to know him. Always smiling, always squealing as he played with his older siblings or the maids. The cooks would give him lemon cakes and biscuits when he only made the comment that he wanted something sweet, the knights would pretend to die when Lucerys played with them with his little toy sword. His sisters would trade him their brown curls and the omega boy would let himself be dressed as a doll just to have fun. Wherever he is, everyone falls at his feet, spoiling him, giving him kisses and hugs.
He would run through the corridors, fleeing from the librarians, carrying as many dragon books as his little hands could hold.
Of all his siblings, Lucerys is the only one without a dragon. And there is much speculation about that.
Some say that the late Lord Lucerys I wanted to leave him his dragon, and for that very reason he never thought to get an egg for his cub, or because of his sudden death he was never able to ask a Maester to bring one of the available eggs. Others, the lesser believers, believe that Aemond refused to give one to her last son, as she does not want him to leave her sight, being the only memory she has of her consort husband.
This is ironic for everyone in the palace, for although King Aemond always gives Lucerys gifts and the best things... he has never been able to look him in the eye. The first and last time he was close to his son was when he was born. After that, he was never near his youngest son.
If it weren't for the occasional painting, Lucerys II would never know what his father looked like.
It was Lucerys I's old maids, siblings and nursemaids who made him grow up, who raised him and made him into everything he once is and will be.
And when it comes to the celebration of his fifth birthday, it is the first time he sees his father.
Because, as the nobles who were present said, Aemond did not approach his son at any time, he looked at him with pain and love. But after that, though Lucerys knew her father, he never spoke to her. He hid in his sisters' skirts or did not speak in her presence.
And they all watched King Aemond die a little that night.
Lucerys' maidservants, who were the ones who faithfully attended the late Lucerys I, see it all as payment for all the pain their former master endured.
Coming back to this AU because this is hands down one of my favourite Lucemond AUs out there.
Imagine Lucerys II all grown up, looking like the exact carbon copy of his late father. His mannerisms and quirks were so much like the late Lucerys that it made everyone who has met the late Lucerys tear up. He was beautiful and bright, another realm’s delight like his late father and late grandmother were. As is established, he doesn’t grow up close to Aemond. His nursemaids and siblings raised him and to Lucerys II his king father is a figure that is more king than father.
Then Aegon III and Viserys II, Rhaenyra’s youngest and remaining children, come back to King’s Landing. They’re all grown up. After Lucerys’ death, both boys were sent to Driftmark to be fostered by Corlys Velaryon and had spent their younger years away from the Red Keep. So they never meet Lucerys II.
The first time Lucerys II sees his uncles he falls helplessly in love with them. Maids would find the young Lucerys trailing after the Targaryen Princes or hiding behind pillars to stare at them. Whenever the older princes would pass by and greet him, many would see Prince Lucerys II turn into an adorable shade of pink as he stammers out his own greeting. As time passes by, people would often see the princes with their heads close to each other pouring over a tome or taking walks around the garden.
All of his siblings find this adorable and would often tease their youngest brother. It was all just harmless jokes UNTIL Aemond hears about it.
Aemond is livid. He has always remained indifferent to the two princes sired by his late half-sister and has kept them alive out of respect for his late beloved so to hear that the two had seduced his youngest made him furious. His anger reaches new heights when for the first time in forever, his youngest visited him in his study to shyly ask that he betrothed him to his uncles.
Instead of betrothing Lucerys II to them, Aemond instead betroths his youngest to his Hand’s eldest son, a young and well respected boy from his trusted Hightower relatives. This comes as a surprise to everyone, especially Lucerys II.
Aemond completely forgot that as much as Lucerys II was the exact carbon copy of his late husband, he was also Aemond’s son and his temper and grudge burned as hot as Vhagar’s fire. Lucerys thinks of this as a betrayal, his tear filled eyes staring at his king father with hurt and anger. Where as Aemond sees this as the perfect way to keep his darling Lucerys in the Red Keep right where he can keep his eye on his youngest, Lucerys II sees this as another one of his father’s plots to keep him caged and flightless.
Lucerys II has never quite understood why he had remained dragonless. His siblings tell him that that it is because father could not bring himself to part from his beloved youngest, that it would kill him to be away from Lucerys II. With that explanation, how could he possibly hold it against father? So no matter how much his entire being yearned for his own companion, longed to feel the wind in his curls and feel the clouds with his fingertips, Lucerys II remained compliant and quiet. Dutifully behaving for a father that has never looked him in the eye or held him in his arms.
But the betrothal to a stranger, some lowborn Hightower that held no fire in his eyes and no dragon in his blood, was the final straw for Lucerys II.
A few nights after the betrothal was announced, Aemond’s children enter Lucerys’ chambers and finds nothing but a letter. The warning bells are rung and the entire household run around in panic as they look for their youngest prince. When Viserys and Aegon’s chambers are checked they too are found empty and the princes’ dragons are nowhere to be found in the dragon pit.
Inside Lucerys’ chambers, King Aemond falls to his knees as he reads his youngest son’s letter over and over again.
Why did they always leave? He wondered, the heart that he had always thought to have died the day Lucerys died breaking into millions of pieces as he holds onto the letter. Why were the Gods so cruel that they would take away his Lucerys again and again?
No one could pry the letter off of the King’s hand. Not his sons, not his daughters, no one.
King Aemond dies the second time that night.
