“my baby and i will not be drowning.”

After taking a nap and changing into some swim shorts and a tank top, Lukas made his way towards where he knew Sinclair would be. He wanted to check on her, see if everything was fine with her, but also enjoying some time together while they’re here and before the babies arrived. They’ll never really have alone time again. “Hey babe. You alright?” He asked with a smile, before pressing a kiss to her cheek and sitting down on a beach chair next to her. “Enjoying the sun?”
“we’re never taking the babies on one of these hell ships.” sinclair had hated every part of this. it was too loud, and the children were all and all too sticky. hyped up on sugar and the adrenaline of meeting absolutely horrendous characters in costumes. “i could do sun with no screaming. it would make my headache go away. i’m not sure if this is the ideal zen enviroment that you or the ob prefer.”
sinclair was sitting on a beach chair, wearing a life jacket with her flopping sun hat and a beach cover up, flipping through her paperback of faulkner. this was the farthest thing from her chosen form of respite. disney’s attempt to whoo her for their next live action project only had her on edge.

alexa didn’t know what she was thinking taking a movie, literally a month after having her son. she missed eli but this was a good way to get through the hiatus. walking over, lexa picked up the pen for the other women and handed it to her. “everything okay sin?”
“men in this business think they’ve been molded from the clay of the earth. its busy to remind them.” sinclair stepped back on the set, grabbing a peach and her water bottle. she knew her assistant was keeping track of her food and water intake. she’d been happy to delay filming specifically for alexa.

Lukas knew they had heard that before, so many times and things always ended up the same way. He was there, every single time with Sinclair, listening to what the nurses said and hearing that things would be okay. They never did though and he understood her doubt. Lukas had to believe, he had to be strong for the both of them, until their babies arrived safely. “I don’t, but I believe. This time, they’re coming, we’ll be holding our babies soon enough, I can feel it.” He leaned forward, placing a kiss on her forehead, while one of his hands traveled down to rest against her belly. He caressed it softly, smiling when he felt the kicks, as if their baby was trying to tell them not to worry, that he was okay. “Maybe, I’m not going to confirm or deny that.” He paused. “Are you hungry? I brought different types of food, I wasn’t sure what you were in the mood for so I brought some variety.”
sinclair sighed, reached to her desk phone, and asked her secretary to hold her calls for her next hour. “i’m going to need my pager back. i’m fighting speilberg for a script.” she reached in the bag, finding the last month’s cravings at the bottom of the bag. a cheeseburger with pickles four times over, perogies from the hole in the wall place in boston, an entire jar of black olives, and boxty on the pan that she’d fallen in love with in ireland while her ex-husband made a movie of a terrible script. “i got us an interview for a pre-school. they’re interviewing us. not our babies. i made a folder.” she covered her mouth as she kept talking. “eat some of this. this goes both ways you know.”
xlukasthesingerx:
Lukas knew her too well by now and he could see by the tone on her voice and how much she was speaking that she was stressing herself out, for no reason. So he went down on his knees, right in front of her so that he was settled down between her legs. Lukas brought his hands up, placing each hand on each side of her face, making her look at him. “You need to take a deep breath, you’re thinking too much into things, you’re stressing yourself out for no reason.” He paused. “This is going to work now, we’re going to have a healthy little baby girl and we’re going to love her so much. If you want to keep working, then that’s okay, what I’m saying is that you need to take it down a notch, just take more breaks.” He offered her a smile, caressing her cheek with his thumb. “You’re not going to be a horrible mother, you’re going to be an amazing mother and our babies are going to love you so much. You’re the strongest person I know, you’re going to do amazing, I have no doubt. You’re not alone though, you have me, always.”
sinclair clung to him. it was a tight grip of fear as she blinkedback at a flood of. “you don’t know that. we could lose all three of them tomorrow.” this was not an angry rebuttal but a defeated one which fell in the deadpan of her tone. any variation of it would be okay was something that had been repeated by nurses with good intentions and kind words. only stung when they met the same end. the phrase, in its many forms, was often presented by nurses in hospitals with last-ditch efforts and hearbreak on the heels of it. it was a routine that had taken away any sense of security false or otherwise. the baby kicked against the pressure of their father holding their mother. a very tangible sign of okayness. the surrogate would send her twice daily dopler video in fifteen minutes. all sometimes sucessful attempts at keeping her from spiraling into very rational fears. “i know you, my pager’s most likely tucked in your pocket.”

— Kai just stared at her, eyes wide. He could not believe the force that radiated off the very pregnant woman. He was shaky to do so, but he leaned down and handed her her pen. “Um… hi? I am Malachai, or Kai? I called you to see if there was any openings for stunt men for your upcoming project?” The question came out in a hush, for he was fearful of the woman yanking his head off of his spine.
sinclair looked at the pen. never openly accepting any sort of help. gave a curt nod at him. it was her only sign of non-hatred. a slight change in tone was her only demeanor change, and most hadn’t worked out the signs and keys film was an incredibly small business. an injury had been the talk around the town. “i’ll take care of it. evie!” a meek girl stood in the doorway. “look into the stunt schedule for mr. mathis.” there was no hint of stern tone with her. it was steady. the over-confident high school mean girl , however, got a brutal brutal talking down about the small thing being brought to her desk.
xlukasthesingerx:
Lukas knew how rigorous she was, always demanding one hundred percent from all of her workers. It was needed, he knew that, for a company like her’s to achieve success but at the same time, he wished that she would take a step back and relax, take a moment to just breath. “You know you can’t get too stressed, that’s bad for the baby.” The thought of losing this baby as well, Lukas didn’t know if he could handle going through that pain again. It had been so hard the first times, but they always leaned on each other for support. “Come on, let’s sit down and eat. If I can’t take you away from this company, then I’ll have to come here more often and make sure you’re taking breaks.” Lukas leaned forward and pressed his lips against her’s, trying to calm her down, forget about work at least for a few moments.
“it's a catch twenty-two. stress is bad for the baby, and stress comes with thinking about stressing out the baby... the panic of knowing that my body is not suited for this baby. the accompanying panic that comes with not being able to bond with the twins. the fact that betty crocker will probably sue me for liable because, cookies. i don’t know how to make cookies. oh god, how are bake sales going to fucking work, and i can’t say fuck. oh my fucking god.” she fidgeted, running her thumb and pointer finger along the hem of her dress. her ankles crossed as she pulled him down to her from leather desk chair. “i need this. i need to be here. i’m going to flounder if i have nothing to work for, and that might make me a vapid bitch and a horrible mother, but i need something that is mine.”
xlukasthesingerx:
“Yes boss.” He said playfully, turning around to close the door behind him. Lukas was used to being around Sinclair and he was used to her and the way she was. Most people were scared of her and he couldn’t blame them for it, she could be scary at times. Lukas placed the pen on her desk, along with the food he had brought. He titled his head to the side with a smile. “Yeah, you lost track of time, love. Shouldn’t you be taking it easier though? You should rest.” He took a step closer to her, placing a kiss on her cheek and his hand carefully caressing her belly.
“i’ll rest when i’m dead or, at the very least, when there’s a competent person in this company...” she alternated between a desire to wrap herself in bubble wrap and a desire to completely ignore the fact that she was pregnant. neither of them made the possibility of anything going wrong any easier. the surrogate she could micromanage. the surrogate she could check in on every two hours. the surrogate had ninety-seven percent success rate. this baby, in her body, was the gamble. the fluke. it had taken her so long to pick that third baby name, not because she hadn’t had one ready, but because she was still quietly convinced that they wouldn’t need it. she ran her hands through his hair.
dxanwood:
— Watching the way the female worked, he was mesmerized. He had found a woman who took no shit in this sort of industry, and he had found himself wanting to offer her a position at his label on the spot. However, he was not here for that, of course. “Wow, mama, I like the way you work.” he smirked, crossing his arms while leaning against the all. “Guess I am glad you offered my label to produce some artists for this movie soundtrack of yours.” He held out his hand. “Dean Wood, Diablo Records in San Francisco. Pleasure to be doing business with you.”
“it's ms. odell to you. your producers were offered a chance to apply for the position.. its best you know the difference.” sinclair sat back in her office chair. her mouth settling into a thin line. she’d won the production company in the divorce settlement, and her time as ceo had made odell entertainment an empire. not to mention the esteem she’d gotten with her writing and directing credits. “take a seat, mr. wood.”
xlukasthesingerx:
Lukas had decided to stop by Sinclair’s work place, wanting to surprise her by bringing her lunch. He had been writing and recording all morning so he could definitely do with a little break. Plus, he missed her and that was the whole reason why he ended up coming here. Lukas offered the receptionist a small and a greeting, before heading upstairs towards Sinclair’s office. Lukas knocked on the door softly, before walking in silently, noticing that his girlfriend was on the phone. “Hey babe.” He greeted her with a smile before approaching her, bending down to pick up the pen from the floor.
“close the door.” sinclair mouthed. the entire office was peaking up from their corners and cubicles. the group chats sent out thaw warnings every time lukas came into the office. he made her more forgiving by proximity. was it a sin that she expected a hundred and ten percent? an eyeroll.. “why do i pay you then? fix it!” the phone hit the reciever with a clang. “lunch isn’t until...” the clock on the wall betrayed her. “twenty minutes ago.”
“it’s my film, and if he doesn’t like that, he won’t have a job tomorrow. if he wants a spineless bastard, my ex-husband is casting his next porno.” the producer on the other end of the line had the full force of her hissing sticato. she’d made a vow to herself in her darkest hour. bow to no one. a film was colaporative act, but this was a blatant attempt to take the reigns. patronising mysogyny got no mercy. she dropped her pen, and the baby made it impossible for her to bend.
