Honesty Is The Best Policy
Don't Hate The Player, Hate The Game
Love when guys try to be "players" but then get confused at their own games. Let me help you all out. We all need lots of practice to get to the majors.
1. Play Hard To Get - When you text a girl 25 times in a row and she doesn't respond, STOP TEXTING HER. Seriously, you look desperate and stupid.
2. Notice The Timing Of The Texts - When you send me a text saying "Hey, whats up?" at 6am, that says to me that (a) you are clearly still out from the night before and (b) I am your last resort in your attempt to "get some." Not happening.
3. Take Detailed Notes - We have all been that person at the bar that gets a number and we write next to their name "Brown Hair, Big Smile, Likes Dogs" with hopes that this will trigger our drunken memory the next day. If not, random names in your phone can get mixed up and cause serious confusion.
In my example text below, this "player" missed all three of my practices. It was also great that he "saw me at the gym" on Tuesday.... cause I didn't go to the gym on Tuesday. So I played along...and I apologize to the girl that is going to get a big ole hug from a stranger at the gym next week :)
Don't hate the player, hate the game.
Oh Tinder.... You Cease To Impress Me
For all you Tinder junkies out there, behold my "Best of Tinder." It astonishes me how people choose these photos to be their first and ONLY impression on a dating site. Yeah, you are definitely not getting laid...
This is about the closest this guy will get to any Fifty Shades of Grey action.
Is that seaweed you are carrying?
I've always wanted to pitch a tent in Target....
Are you looking at my breasts?
Are you sure you meant to click "Interested In: WOMEN" ???
This picture screams "I'm trying to show you I like to cook, but I am really showing you how amazing my washboard abs are!"
Didn't think this guy had any chance of getting laid when I found this. But after Pharrell at the Grammy's, he is definitely getting it in with that hat tonight.
Feel free to email me your "Best of Tinder" screenshots to add to the list (singlegirlinatlanta [@] gmail.com)
Listen.
It's been a little while since my last post. Since then I have been dating a guy for a few months and was really starting to like him. One of the first things he said to me was how he wasn't ready to settle down and that he has "issues" when it comes to commitment (despite being 30 years old). I then made the mistake that you thought I would have learned in high school...
I continued to spend time with him with hopes that I was "different." You know how that works. We all dated that "bad boy" in high school that we thought we could turn into the "good boy." Yeah, that NEVER happens.
I could have saved this heartbreak if I had done one thing when we started hanging out... LISTENED. Sometimes the truth isn't what you want to hear but if I have learned one thing (that I should have already learned from that bad boy in high school) is that you can never change a man. Once you start to think that you can, you have already lost.

What Part of "I'm Not Interested" Do You Not Understand?
Ladies, Why Do You Do This To Yourselves?
Is the Facebook rant really necessary?
Case of Mistaken Identity?
A few months ago I received a Facebook message from this guy I met way back in college. His name was Chad and he had recently moved to Atlanta to go to medical school. I remember Chad as having a weird personality and slightly creepy at times. I decided to give him my number anyways over Facebook as I know it can be hard moving to a new city and not knowing anyone. I figured I would at least grab a drink with him as a nice gesture with hopes that he had changed his creepy and awkward ways. I sent him my number but never heard from him...
Fast forward a couple months where I began to talk to this guy I met on this online dating website. He was super cool and nice, looked cute in his pictures, and was practicing to be a doctor here in Atlanta. His name was Chad and he asked for my number saying that maybe we could grab a drink or something sometime. I gave him my number and not even an hour later I get a text...
Wow, that was fast! For the next month, Chad and I texted a few times each week. When I text a guy I have met online, I usually don't ask a lot of personal questions as I usually like to discuss those things in person whenever we meet for the first time. Kinda takes the excitement out of the first date when you have already discussed everything. We seemed to get along and we were working to find a day that we could both grab dinner between our busy schedules.
Finally, it worked out where we could both get dinner. He messaged me that he would pick me up around 7pm and we would go to Decatur. Note: I don't live close to Decatur so while I thought this was awfully ambitious and a lot of driving for him, I went with it. 7pm rolled around and I walked outside to meet him....
I really hope he didn't see the reaction on my face when I saw who it was.... COLLEGE CHAD. WTF! All these thoughts filled my head: maybe college Chad just happened to be in the neighborhood and the real Chad (from online dating) was about to pull up..... maybe college Chad set up a fake online dating account posing as someone else to get me to go on a date with him..... but there was no way both of these situations were happening. I finally realized that he must have just coincidentally texted me right after I gave my number to the online dating Chad. What are the chances of of a guy named Chad (who I gave my number to months earlier and never heard from) texting me minutes after I give my number to another guy named Chad?
I got in the car (not wanting to be rude) and immediately changed the plans. There was no way I was going all the way to Decatur (long car ride) with this guy that I was not interested in dating. I offered up the suggestion of going somewhere close and so we did which cut the date time probably in half. I kind of felt for him... he clearly had no idea of my confusion and the mistaken identity.
Getting a text from an unknown number is always interesting. We begin to think back on those nights out and wonder who it could be. Usually we can discover who it is cause honestly how often are we giving out our numbers? Next time I will definitely will do some more scooping in my texts to assure it is who I think it is. Mistaken identity always makes for some awkward dates.
Reason #13485932 Why I'm Single
If your office fax number is listed on your business card as "Cell" you may never hear from that guy you gave your card to last night.
Should have proof read my card a little better.... Fail.
To Friend Or Unfriend Your Ex on Facebook?
Every girl has battled with this thought at one time or another. When you have a breakup with an ex do you continue to be friends with him on Facebook or do you unfriend him? I have battled with this a few times when breakups haven't been the friendliest in nature...
Option 1 - Staying Facebook Friends - Staying Facebook friends can be great for a break up, especially if your lifestyle is way more exciting than his. Staying Facebook friends, allows him to see every picture of you whether it is a hot bikini pic after you have dropped 10 pounds or a fun night out with the girls or even some pics with dudes just to make his mind wander a little bit. Thanks to Facebook, revenge on a bad breakup couldn't be sweeter. (I swear, it's just a coincidence that after we break up all these men are flocking to me in these photos and my skirt has gotten shorter!) We have all posted those post breakup pics with hopes of our ex seeing them and thinking "damn I shouldn't have dumped her." ....but that is in a perfect world... and how many times have you chosen this option and your ex come running back begging for you? Never. It never happens. The satisfaction of Option 1 is temporary. You eventually realize he doesn't feel bad about dumping you and he actually isn't missing that new slimmer, short skirt girl that he used to date.
Option 2 - Unfriending The Ex - In many girl's eyes, unfriending the ex is holding up a big middle finger to the past. We want to act like we don't give a fuck what you do, who you are and could care less about saving any memories that were previously shared. This is a good way for the woman to move on from the relationship also. It makes it a lot easier to move on when you can't see his pics popping up on your Facebook newsfeed everyday. But it also makes it a lot easier for him to move on as well...No "I lost 10 lbs and am smoking hot" pics will be useful here...
Both options poise different purposes in a break up but they are similar in that both options are being contemplated by a woman because of how it will make their ex feel. This is the problem. A woman after a break up should stop worrying about making her ex jealous, giving that middle finger to their ex or hoping her statuses and pictures will make him run back. We have all seen those statuses on Facebook where girls post a message that is clearly meant for one person to read. It is uncomfortable to read these because you feel bad for the girl. These messages don't make you look witty, they make you look desperate.
Instead of focusing so much on how your actions will make the ex feel after a break up, women need to focus on actions that will make them feel better after a break up. Who cares what this guy thinks! No Facebook action is going to ever give you the satisfaction you are looking for. Spend your time surrounding yourself with family, friends and those positive people that know you are deserving of love and happiness.... a couple random make outs in a bar wouldn't hurt either...
Too Comfortable, Too Fast
Have you ever met a guy that seems to get a little too comfortable too fast? He either begins cracking jokes or sending you weird texts now that he feels yall are pretty much besties after one date. We just met. Slow your roll.
Do Pets Really Resemble Their Owners?
Do pets resemble their owners? To be honest, I never really thought about this until a friend mentioned it recently. I began to take notice of pets and their owners on my regular walks around Atlanta and to my surprise, many resembled each other. Coincidence or phenomenon? Buzzfeed seems to think the rather in their article "30 People Who Look Like Their Dogs":
This sole question caused me to be quite distracted last night when I went on a blind date with a dog owner. We met at a restaurant in Midtown and immediately I regretted wearing heels. Considering I am 5'1, I rarely come across guys who are shorter than me but to my surprise my date last night was. I have no real reason for not dating shorter guys other than the fact that over generations my family has gotten shorter and shorter and it's about time someone reverses this trend.
I began wondering a midst conversation with him about animals what kind of dog he had. Surely this theory of a dog resembling their owners had to be a coincidence and he probably owned a lab, golden retriever or something large. So I finally asked and his response couldn't have been more opposite...
A Chihuahua....A fucking Chihuahua?
It is cute if a girl has a chihuahua. It is cute if a couple has a chihuahua. But a single man should not have a chihuahua. What am I going to do with that? Walk it with you in the park for the 400 meters before it gets tired?
The Chihuahua isn't the reason I will not be going on another date with him despite him asking to see me again. There were disconnections such as career path that led me to think we would be better as friends.
My friend may have been more right in her theory than expected. Does your pup resemble you?
Online Dating : Beware of The Mirror Pic Guy
Getting on a dating website can be a little tricky. Some guys are only on it to expand the number of chicks in their phone for a late night booty call while others are serious about finding someone to share their life with. I now like to do some research before I commit to any online date because of this situation.
I met a guy (who we will call Justin) on a dating website. Justin initially threw up a few red flags from the countless "selfie" pics and mirror shots of himself but I tried to be open minded to the possibilities. I gave him my number after talking with him online for a few weeks and he began blowing up my phone with texts...
Sexy bear? WTF? Last time I checked we haven't met and you are calling me pet names already? I gave him the benefit of the doubt hoping that maybe he had some sense of humor that I clearly wasn't getting and agreed to have dinner with him the following Thursday.
I called my girlfriend before the date to explain the situation and tell her that I would text her if I needed her to save me. She would show up where I was having dinner to "surprise me" and act like a friend from out of town that was stopping by for the night to see me. This would give me an excuse to cut off the date sooner than expected.
I arrived at dinner to be greeted by Justin and to be honest, was somewhat open minded with a little hesitation. Sure enough, within minutes the mirror pic guy came out and continuously talked about money, his looks, working out, etc. Seriously? You can bench how much weight? Please tell me more!! Let's just say that first glass of wine went down rather quickly and the "save me" text to my girlfriend was sent. The next 20 minutes went by at a snails pace. Suddenly Justin had a family house in the Hamptons that he wanted to fly me out to for a winery tour the next weekend. Wait, we did just meet right? And my watch does say I have been here for only 30 minutes? Thankfully, I only had to put on my fake happy face for a little while longer before my girlfriend showed up to the restaurant. "SURPRISE!!" she yelled and I tried not to hold back laughter. "Oh my gosh, my girlfriend surprised me from out of town!" I said. "Well, come join us for a drink." Justin replied to my friend. Wait... this wasn't the "save me" plan... My friend reluctantly sat down and I began to fill her in on the conversation with a wide-eyed expression. "So you are only in town for the night? Where do you live?" said Justin. And my wonderful (and blonde I may add) friend responded "Just a couple exits north on 75 in Buckhead." ..... In my head I screamed "NOOOOO." Whoops!
Let's just say the date didn't last much longer so the failed "save me plan" ended up being the successful "save me plan" thanks to a little remix from my friend. I didn't get the weekend trip to the Hamptons (darnt), I was really looking forward to the winery tour...
Lesson learned: If a guy's online profile is full of selfie mirror pics and quotes about how much he loves himself, he probably is the same guy in real life. Don't give him the benefit of the doubt... you sexy bear.
I Have The Perfect Guy For You
I recently received a call from a dating service here in Atlanta that proclaimed they had the perfect guy for me. Oh really? It made me start to think what is my perfect man? And what do other people think my perfect man is? I don't have many details on what my "perfect man" would be but in an ideal world he would be:
1) Successful 2) Makes me Laugh 3) Caring and Loyal 4) Follower of Christ 5) True Friend 6) Passionate and Driven 7) Loves Family 8) Active Lifestyle 9) Sports Junkie 10) Tall, Dark and Handsome wouldn't hurt either...
Just 10 simple requirements. Not too much to ask right? So I was curious to see what this dating service thought my perfect man was. I agreed to go to dinner with this guy only knowing his name (which we will call Andrew for this post). We agreed on a nice restaurant in Buckhead. A great place for me to enjoy some great wine while acting like I always order a salad when I eat out... (yeah right, I really want the large cheeseburger on the menu). I walked into the restaurant at 8pm, right on time for the dinner and to my liking, Andrew was already there. Love when a guy can be on time. Andrew was a good looking man that dressed well and we immediately began hitting it off in conversation. We talked about everything from where we grew up to favorite restaurants in the city. We hit it off so well in conversation, I didn't realize till over an hour in that I never asked what he did for a living. "By the way, what do you do for a living?" I asked. "I'm a priest!" he responded. Now I tried really hard to keep a straight face, but a priest? Can priests even date? I was a little thrown off by his response more because I never thought I would hit it off with a priest. I began thinking about my "10 Requirements" and realized that while he did satisfy many of those on the list, I couldn't bring myself to go on another date with him. While we will definitely remain friends and keep in touch, there is definitely a lifestyle difference that eliminates any further dates. But it made me think over my "perfect man" and what others think is the "perfect man" for me. Every girl has a "list" in her head whether it is a couple requirements or 5 pages of requirements. This date made me open to exploring outside my requirement box. Sometimes the guy checking off all your boxes and looking good on paper, may not be the one that works out.
25 and Single
25 and Single. Not shocking? Well in the south it is. Many of my friends were married by 23 and are already poppin out their first kid. Normally this wouldn't bother me as I have a successful job and am surrounded by many amazing friends but thanks to Facebook and the countless engagement, baby and now new house photos, I'm starting to feel slightly behind...
I live in Atlanta which is supposed to be the "Number One City to Find A Date" according to The Daily Beast so I decided I would start a blog to write my way through this "dating city." I have to admit, I don't quite agree with the Daily Beast on this but I am willing to give it a shot!
My dating life so far seems to be a source of laughter among my friends with comments like "this would only happen to you" when I call them leaving my date. So I decided I would share these experiences with some laughter and a side of sarcasm. Hopefully in 5 years there won't be a post called "30 and Single"... Disclaimer: I will never use the guy's real name :)
