a gasp behind her had caused carrie to turn to face the other, blinking a few times before she arched a brow. ❝ what's that for? ❞ she asked slowly, not exactly defensive yet, but she may end up sounding a bit defensive later on. she's not accused of anything yet, nor did she do anything wrong. or well, she thought she hadn't done anything wrong.

Celeste's golden waves tremble against her shoulders as she tries to hold off hyperventilating. Her blouse has been stained deliberately with ink and she appears to be close to fainting. " My mom is going to kill me ! This was hers when she was younger ... what the hell am I going to do ?! "

She's whispering to herself and only registers Carrie on her peripherals, she stops spiraling long enough to give the other girl a lackluster grin: " It's ... it's not too bad. Right ? Hardly noticeable ? " Celeste gestured to her shirt before sagging heavily against the wall. She has EVERY idea it's just as bad as she thinks it is. They aren't taking up space in the main hallway and aren't given a second glance from their peers.

"Is that so? And if I were to crown you with my attention would yours falter the moment someone else's sliver is bestowed upon you, ma belle?" She asked but did not accuse, merely gathering the facts of what the young beauty desired, for compared to Ysabeau she was young, barely a mayfly orbiting a great oak and calling an extra day a long life. "Attention sustains you for a while...and then what? You perish and wilt from overly fussy attention like an orchid that has been overwatered? Or have you had vapid attention that did not sprout to softer, more intimate affection and it no longer seemed to have a point?"

She is a pretty young thing but Ysabeau had seen many beautiful faces and none particularly struck her attention, she on the other hand, drew it and demanded it by presence alone. She appeared to be as dangerous as a viper but had a softness to her words the ancient vampire had not expected.

"The greatest things in life are complicated. Empires are complicated, democracy, diplomacy, mathematics...poetry. If they were simple we would have stopped striving towards them. I do not cower in front of complications, I conquer them...but it need not be a decision. Perhaps we have a little wine, a little dance, get to know each other. Assess if the risk is worth taking first, I will not be offended."

Her hand squeezed Lisette's thigh just a little and she'd release the younger vampire of her hold around her waist to allow her to sit next to Ysabeau instead, with but a tilt of head the rest sat around the lounge table would depart to give them privacy.

"Ysabeau" she introduced herself pouring Lisette a glass of 1975 Lafitte, a highly mature masculine wine with rather aggressive tannins. "I have yet to be accused of being a poor decision on anyone's book, if that is how I appear in yours it will be a new attribute. Do I make you nervous?" she asked with a lightly cocked head, it would not surprise her, old ones like her were rare and by default imposing and intimidating figures.

" Suffice to say, my heart overrules my logic - and, I fall harder than I should for temporary people. Sad but true. " The words left her lips and her voice was both faraway & tart with something bitter being poorly hidden under the honeyed tone. The younger vampire side stepped the barrage of questions clumsily, but led with vulnerable honesty. Lisette shook her head as if it would clear the bad memories, even if the action was in vain. She gave Ysabeau a small tentative grin. " My woes in love are quite trivial, maybe because I can't do casual flings. I fall into the old girlish trap of planning forevers that I can't be given. ... but, enough about that. Tale as old as time, oui ? " She laughed, a sound that swept the conversation under the rug as if it had never occurred to begin with. She found that she melted under the other's touch, her skin tingling underneath the soft silk slip dress. Lisette shifts to the seat next to her new companion, but remains just as intense as before. " Risk assessment isn't my specialty - I'll have to rely on your judgment. It seems like that might be a sound enough idea ... ? All things considered, I mean. " Ysabeau ... the name seems familiar - though Lisette isn't sure where she might have heard it. Mal's connections ? Old world noble family ? The possibilities are endless in reality. What's the point in speculation ? She settled in cozily at the other's side, taking the wine offered to her. " Lisette Montclair, and for what is worth - I find our acquaintanceship more than pleasing. " The wine's aroma was pungent & earthy to the redhead's nose. A wine that had been aged to perfection, and procured by a true connoisseur. She's only vaguely aware that others are vacating their general vicinity - a measure of privacy provided no less by the other woman's commanding presence. She's too caught up in their conversation to really give it much extra thought.

Lisette was caught off guard by the question: did Ysabeau make her nervous ? There is protocol in place & she had been taught by her maker to defer in the presence of the older, elites of their ranks. She gave it a measure of thought before answering: " No, you don't make me nervous. It's more like I feel drawn to you in a way I haven't felt before ? Ah - I mean ... " Lisette took a steadying breath and continued: " You make me curious. You know, drawn in - in a way that doesn't feel entirely like a choice, but I welcome it. " Her gaze lingered on the other, softer - less intense and more unguarded than before. She raised her glass ready for a toast before she takes a sip of her wine. " If that's what you were aiming for, then I suppose you ought to know it's working. "

"Your book is upside down, ma belle"

There are a finite amount of times that someone could glance up from their book getting closer with every pretend turn of page and Ysabeau decided that five was it. Vampires only gathered like this when on the precipice of change....or disaster. Her accent lacks the drawl of Creole, no she was French born, Ysabeau could tell.

Lisette was either leaving because well she wished to depart or because she grew tired of glancing from her book at her and Ysabeau would find out which one with a swift motion of embracing Lisette's delicate waist to sit her on her instead.

"Is that so? Consider me warned-" she answered and delicate long fingers pushed a strand of strawberry blond hair that escaped the rest over the younger vampire's shoulder. "Is that all it takes? Just some attention?" she asked and loosened her hold over the younger vampire's waist if she wished to move.

"Would it be so terrible if it was a reoccurring thing? Worse things to endure than a beauty on my lap....and far more duller things to live through than my attention, no? Would it be so dreadful if it became a recurring thing for us?"

Lisette didn't have a logical reason to hold her breath - an unnecessary function left over from life - but, it was certainly an easy tell when she was captivated by someone or something. Slender pale fingers discarded the book altogether; her pretense no longer felt required. A pleasant shiver worked down her spine as the other woman adjusted the stray fly away curls she hadn't managed to sweep up.

" Only a sliver of attention is required to gain my affection. I am, by nature - as you are aware - a greedy thing. Attention sustains me ... for a while, anyway. Pathetic actually, wouldn't you agree ? " The vampire's green eyes held Ysabeau's in sickening earnestness even as the words dripped in languid seduction. ( In truth ? Lisette was painfully aware that while her kind will continue on in perpetuity - her paramours often lose interest after a while & the loneliness will seep into her bones again to resume the ache of eons. How long could this last ? ) A small beat of silence passed between the two before Lisette shattered it again, leaning her head against Ysabeau's shoulder, giving in to her desire to feel some sort of comfortable connection. She sighs, turning her head so she has the other in her line of sight. " You are tempting me into very poor decisions ... and, I haven't decided if I should thank you for it yet. " The decadent surroundings full of lavish textiles and opulent furniture lent itself to the encounter, that was undeniable. Lisette felt dangerously safe & as such was unsure if she should reign in her attraction or give it a full send. " You seem to be asking me for something scarily simple. I unfortunately have a nasty habit of making things horribly complicated - how could I ask you to deal with that ? It hardly seems fair to you, ma cherie. "
