“Dance with me—don’t worry, no one’s sober enough to judge.”
@chervbino // country nights & cold beer
She was in the process of re-arranging some flowers in a vase when the prince of Venice himself, charming and radiant addressed her. Yet another night, yet another party, yet again she asked Marius to allow his apprentice to escort them for protection. "Have you tired of your admirers already petit prince?" The vampiress questioned and finished placing the carnations on the outer rim of the bouquet.
"I pity the fools that would dare to judge me, little cherub. Ask Bianca to dance with you. Or one of the many fair maidens..ah." Ysabeau smirked. "Am I to play Eris and make then scramble vying for your attention Paris?" she asked and gave him her gloved hand. "One dance then, for envy's sake. But if you step on my foot I will make you walk home barefoot as penance for soiling my shoe are we understood?"
"Mayhaps I ought to write to my husband, younger handsome men are asking me to dance my lion, I granted a delightful young man a single dance. You best hurry home." she jested with a light-hearted little laugh and of course she would dance with him, to make the fair maidens jealous, to keep that redheaded Lord who had been leering at him at bay...would Marius feel gutted it was not he dancing with Amadeo?
They would dance and Ysabeau was not a novice on the dancefloor, paired with his expertise they made a talented duo. The song would come to an end and the redhead approached.
"Lord Harlech I dread that the young man has sworn to guard my side this evening and I can not spare him until my beloved friend, Marius returns from his chat. Too many men with ill intentions towards a perceived green grass wife. Amadeo? I feel faint, I must take the air, show me the roses?" she once more would give Amadeo an excuse to leave the company of lord Harlech, he never seemed too keen for it.
Haha, the roses. She missed her husband, he would have found her political jab hilarious.
"I wouldn't know if it is nothing to tell you thusly or otherwise. I heard rumour, I heard my husband's son name you a problem and a threat, I heard other ancients roar their threats at you for it but I have never been a woman concerned with the vampiric population. Not since my late husband grow calmer and his dreams of decimating everyone that did not bend the knee to him were left to the past and a more pacifistic era swept our house like the first autumn rain cleansing the dust of summer. I care for my children...maybe five more vampires you included. For the rest, the grand scheme and trajectories of our species are left to the more political minded of my family. So you tell me what you heard, who Gabriella is and what she told you and I can ask Baldwin, Matthew and Freyja who are watching the strings that weave our species if what you were told is true. Whether to assure you or warn you." Ysabeau did not show it in her face but she had hoped their get together to have been more about them and less about politics.
Well, whether she liked it or not he was a political statement.
"The flower of prosperity, love and good fortune, the king of Flowers according to Chinese tradition, in Victorian times standing for shyness alongside romantic prosperity and happy marriages. Named after Peon when the Greeks considered Gods in need of healing." She much preferred talking about flowers than the doom of their species. "I can see them suiting you very well, for all your brattiness deep down I do think you yearn to mend those that hurt. To be a soft comfort in the frosts of winter. Their scent is described as intoxicating, I can see that suiting you as well. One can get very used to your strong personality and others would simply seem faded compared to your vibrancy"
"You are very sweet...and a practised charmer. You did not even stumble for a moment in your honeyed flattery dripping from your silver tongue. I almost dread to admit it worked more than I would like. You almost make a woman wish she was a peony like you view her. Will you be disappointed if I am a far deadlier bloom than a peony? Would it break your heart to know that I have made rivers run red by the blood of those that disturbed my peace?" Well she thought him a lot more lighthearted considering that he witnessed her destroy someone just for threatening him and he was but a musician her daughter liked at that time and nothing more.
"I have enjoyed your company, that much is true. But I am not a fun woman. I am not easy to please or get along with. I am concerned that I would break you by mere presence alone never mind in allowing any bond to form, delightful Apollo. You admitted yourself, you are fragile and seek the comfort of narcotics to cope." she fidgeted with her sleeve by her wrist.
"I would like you company again, but be forewarned that I am not inclined to become fun or bubbly.Allow me to be close to you only if you can accept that I hold the things I care about in high regard and am notoriously lethal to those that threaten them. As a man that seems forgiving...that might be off puttiing"
"Gabrielle, she is my fledgling. She has been out in the world, traveling, exploring and only just returned to me. She heard the whispers first." He paused for a moment, and she seemed happy to listen so he continued. "Some vampires think we have lived second for long enough. That we should rise up and rule over humans because we are superior. Not to kill them all, no. But to subjugate. We'd still need food, resources, not to mention the inability to do much of anything when the sun is up. It seems silly. But some vampires don't think it is. There are more and more of us every day, and they're being unleashed upon the human population. Irresponsible, impulsive, violent, out of control. And someone out there is meant to lead them, some kind of messiah. It would make sense for it to be an ancient." He said, shaking his head.
"And that's all I've heard, really. On vampire radio and from my mother. People talking. It's giving them hope. It's becoming a movement. It's not just a handful of them anymore, they're organizing." Then, as she spoke, he froze. Lestat was not oblivious to her capacity for violence and her short temper when it came to threats to herself and those in her circle. He did not see her as some delicate blossom to be sheltered from the elements - in fact he thought a peony an apt comparison though perhaps something more poisonous, then. She did not need his protection. In fact, she seemed to need nothing from him at all, and after several life times of people taking, it was nice. But her words hurt. She'd pressed on a fracture point she didn't even know was there. Her comments triggered a shallow anxiety, ever looming. The threat of abandonment.
He felt his breath catch. She likely didn't mean it the way he was taking it. On some level, he might have even realized the fight or flight reaction was unnecessary but he couldn't stop it. She was warning him away, it seemed. She wanted to spend time with him but. They'd been having a nice time. He must have done something wrong. His voice was urgent, eyes suddenly wide. The stutter long banished threatened to reveal itself. "I enjoy spending time with you exactly the way you are. You don't need to be bubbly or fun or put on a show for me. You -- You've always seemed real to me. I'm tired of people pretending to be other than they are. You don't need to protect me. I'm not a child. I don't care what you've done, or what you might do. We're the same. If you're a monster, so am I. If you - if you want to leave, if I'm too much, if this is too much --"
"Pity. I was hoping to have an easy century. I have grown so tired of revolutions" Ysabeau is so detached from her own humanity that it is a mere inconvenience to hear that vampires were gathering behind a movement such as this.
She stood to take her leave but his eyes turned wide, his voice urgent. There was a sadness to him, a melancholy, a broken boy that looked as if he would tremble in tears if she turned her gaze away from him. "You are a child, Lestat." Ysabeau stated and the more he stuttered the more she saw a broken boy too easily affected by something as simple as a goodbye. She sat down again next to him, put her hands on her lap. Listened.
"Compose yourself. Take a deep breath even if you do not need one." Ysabeau's voice did not lose it's silken lilt, the ethereal breathy voice of a soothsayer, of someone that once tried to commune with the unseen world, there is nothing human about her. "Breathe little lion" she demanded again. If you, if you, if, if, if. The uncertainty that drowned him like a man at sea, a sea of his own insecurities and doubts. "I do need to protect you, you are a fool. A very handsome and talented fool but a fool nevertheless. You incite riots, are demanded to be the poster child of a revolution and yet you lack the strength to endure without drowning in your vices. Come here-" she opened her arms for the upset vampire and patted her left shoulder. "Rest your head on my shoulder, tell me what's wrong. What has you so upset, little lion?"
It was not a ruse. He seemed so suddenly upset. "What ever is the matter?"
💔 an ‘ i’ll be back ’ kiss. (she is leaving but promised to come back?)
@sanguisprince // angsty kissing
"You have your career and I have matters of my own to attend to. My son is about to die for love and I cannot allow that to happen. As fun as playing the groupie has been duty calls mon soleil as it always does. Best of luck in Boston, be good. Do not disappoint me. I expect you to stay sober in my absence, I will not return if you indulge in your vices" Ysabeau held his jaw in her hand and leaned down to kiss him.
"I do not make empty threats pup. You will hold and make me proud. Blow me a kiss at your encore." she demanded looking deeply into his violet-grey eyes and looped her cashmere scarf around his neck, women in the olden time gifted their men textiles to keep them warm during cold winter, cold battlements, there would be a cold in her absence.
Even if his heart was breaking she was always a mother first and this Diana business needed sorting.
She turned as she got across the road, she turned and blew him a kiss.
She hoped he'd stay off his shitty coping mechanisms, she worked so hard to take care of him and make him functional.
💔
@chervbino // angsty kissing
19. a kiss with tears.
Her ears are ringing from the concert and it feels as if the world is so very far away. She chose to forgive and what did forgiveness get her? Diana vanished with Matthew and Louis, her Louis was nothing but a pile of ash on the floor where she was kneeling. She needed someone to blame, someone had to be at fault. Armand found her still and quiet and for the first time she is a woman, a woman in pain. Devastated. "You need to find Daniel" She refuses to get off the ground. "Go.I said go." she snapped. Ysabeau can not even listen to a word he says, she assumes it is words of concern, promises that he will come back, that he will take care of her.
It wasn't. He warned her they needed to get out, she is but a rag doll as he plucks her arm to pull her away.
"You need to find Daniel. Make sure he is safe with your maker." She scatters the ashes so none can try to bring him back, he was always a soft boy he would not come back right. "We will find each other again in this world, if the stars will it so. My prayers will always be with you, every night, and every dawn." It is goodbye. Maybe a brief goodbye, maybe the final goodbye. She kisses him softly, more tears fall from her eyes, a talisman bracelet is pushed on his wrist.
"We will see the North Pole. You have to survive until then-" The last place on this Earth her feet never touched the ground off. To stand on 90° north latitude, the furthest North and stare at the sky 700 kilometres from the nearest land, he promised to take her for the winter solstice. Of course a catastrophe would come in the way. The Fates never gave her a fucking break.

ELIZABETH DEBICKI ph. for Harper's Bazaar Australia/New Zealand (July 2026)
They must look like an odd pair, dressed in all black, surrounded by people they should surround themselves with. Witches, maybe even the dreadful Talamasca or whoever else was trying to spy on their kind. Armand wasn’t too sure about that, and he also didn’t want to dig into it further. Armand listened to the thoughts of the guests the moment they stepped inside. His mind was strongly linked to those around him, even those who tried to shield themselves. Some more skilled witches or agents could certainly feel the slight velvety tingling in the back of their minds, but it was no more than that.
They made it to the painting that was made without his consent. Armand couldn’t help but wonder who drew this and then came to the conclusion that it must have been one of those vampires who had been part of the Roman Coven back in the day. Slowly, he turned his gaze away from the dreadful painting. He just turned his head in time to see her beautiful blond hair falling free as the hairpin got removed. No word was spoken from Armand’s side as she explained something he asked about a while ago. And now it made much more sense. Violence was the answer he’d been looking for.
Amber-coloured eyes started sparkling at the wonderful sound of a canvas slashed, a painting that shouldn’t exist destroyed forever. Seconds later, the hairpin found the real victim. Not the painting but a woman approaching. Violence. Blood. It was magnificent. Almost elegantly, Armand turned his body to watch her choking on her own blood before falling to the ground.
While holding her purse in his left hand, Armand held his right palm up. A flame appeared out of nowhere in his palm. Without looking at it, he held the flames to the slashed canvas until it was catching fire. Without any sign of emotion, he lowered his hand again and made the flame disappear from it. Her voice echoed in his mind as he kept them linked on purpose. Armand’s psychic skills were his biggest weapon, and even though he knew Ysabeau wouldn’t need his skill, he still kept a veil of nothingness around her mind as well. The pool of blood was getting bigger from the witch on the ground.
The kiss to his temple made him close his eyes for a moment, and even a soft smile appeared on his lips. He turned his head just so slightly to steal a sweet little peck from those way too tempting lips. // Thank you. May I? I would hate to ruin your purse. // He gave her her purse back before stepping over the dead body.
It only took him the blink of an eye to close the distance between himself and a mortal he knew must be an agent. His pointy nails dug deep into his throat. As if the man weighed nothing, Armand lifted him up from the ground. Meanwhile, his eyes focused on the second person, a witch as well. Armand linked himself into her mind.
❝You look tired.❞ He said to her in such a soothing, calm voice as if he meant no harm. ❝Rest.❞ Almost mechanically, she walked over to the dead witch on the floor. She pulled the hairpin out and pierced it through her own eye in such brute force that she shoved it up enough that it pierced her brain. The moment she fell to the ground, Armand ripped out the man's throat and let the dead body fall to his feet.
The mortal guests around them screamed in terror and panic. Armand threw the remaining ripped-out flesh in his hand against a sculpture next to him, then he linked himself with all those mortal brains.
❝Enough.❞
The screaming stopped. Armand’s eyes turned black, and his gaze wandered over to Ysabeau again.
❝Shall I wipe their memories? Or shall we have dinner before I burn this place to the ground, my beautiful goddess?❞
The audacity of the young Adonis to catch the eye of a Goddess, the audacity of witches allying themselves with the Talamasca...or was it the other way around, to try and trap someone like Armand without first making sure he came alone and second make sure that their psychic barriers could withstand him. They would try to run of course but would find the vampiress had wooshed over to the exit, and the other one suddenly had a the two marble statues placed right in front of them. Marble was so heavy and while Armand toyed with the mortals she bent one of the witches backwards.
"Kill her" Ysabeau demanded of her fellow witch as she pushed the captive witch in this unnatural position where her body formed a C. She pushed harder, her captive screamed in pain as her spine was grinding and then snapped. "I would have spared you if you were brave enough to do it." Ysabeau abandoned the incapacitated witch writhing in anguish and all Armand would see was a body flying past him as the other witch was thrown against the wall with such force her skull cracked and brain matter smudge on the wall.
"Push the innocent bystanders to clean and pile the bodies and then make them forget. The watchers-" meaning the Talamasca. "Well, if they never return it sends a firm message" A woman was frozen in place like a statue simply holding Ysabeau's purse. "You will go home. Kiss your children. You will remember coming and finding the exhibit cancelled and lament to your husband what a waste of a journey this was. You will forget everything that happened. The door was shut, the exhibit cancelled and you are so annoyed and disappointed." she pushed and would even hold the door open for her to leave, the woman walked mechanically, like an automaton, a wind up toy and only when she was outside she would regain her sentience.
"I don't like to be spied on" Ysabeau stated to one of the Talamasca agents. "I don't remember giving you permission to pry into my affairs or perceive me and for that, you must die. You intruded upon me. You have made me once more feel a mere tool and for that you will die. Sh, do not beg. It is merely the consequences of your actions, of your choices. When you don't return to your home, when your comrades try to raise you, they will know the reason why you are told to not approach us." With ease via his hair Ysabeau brought the Talamasca agent to his knees and watched Armand's drones return from the janitor's cabinet to clean.
"The cripple is yours to judge. It was her idea." She would never walk again, her body fractured and would never wield strength through it again. It could be a worse fate to spare her but it was Armand's choice if he wished to be merciful. "I like that bust." It's placard a death certificate of sorts. How interesting.
"You might wish to question one on the location of their safehouse." She would be up for knocking on their door, would he?
"Viens Mon vilain (some my naughty boy)" she demanded he cross the room once it was all done and take her hand so she could lead him to the bathroom, rest her purse on the side and wash his hands in the basin. "Lions do not concern themselves with the machinations of lambs, mon petit chou" the ancient woman spoke washing Armand's hand like a warrior's and then using her jacket patted them dry and kissed them.
"There’s a reason mortals feared Eros, Armand. Desire is a kind of power… and you wield it far too well..." her hands cupped his cheeks, not the cupid modernity forced upon the story, no, Eros was once primordial and dangerous, the same entity that caused a city to canabilise their men in punishment as longing turned to ravenous hunger. She kissed him deeply, not a drop of their dinner had spilt but she could taste their vigour on his tongue and lest they get carried away broke the kiss.
She brushed her hair with the comb from her purse and of course she had a spare hairpin.
After the dissolution of the coven as it had been, the Children of Satan, there had been little choice for Marie. With Lestat and Gabrielle gone, and Armand acting as stage manager, director, and writer, it was not so different from their days underground. The hunting was different, of course. The food came to them. Night after night, to see the show, to gawk and gasp, having no idea the theater was truly composed of real vampires, who killed and drank of the blood. It was a break in the monotony of decades under Armand's thumb but not much had changed. And Marie, still subjugated by a master, had long grown bored.
It was the fear of what she might face beyond the walls of the theater that kept her from straying, though she did dream. Armand could not take that from her. She imagined going away with the stoic and beautiful Gabrielle, leaving this all behind, finding true freedom, and though she did not freely voice these thoughts, they did accompany her even during the performances. It had not been beyond Armand's notice. She was beautiful and passable as an actress, young and gorgeous, playing a very specific role in his shows and he wanted her present and enthusiastic. After so long in a cage, there was admittedly little enthusiasm left.
Each performance identical to the last, until they weren't. Until a woman in the crowd caught her eye. Her thoughts were not truly unkind though she was clearly not of the mind that what she was witnessing was high art. A vampiress, and she wasn't alone. And for some reason, it was that performance that Marie decided she would step outside the lines of her voluntary confinement, and break with routine. A chance to speak to the woman. She wasn't about to let her leave without approaching. She regretted not asking Gabrielle to take her and something about the woman drew her in.
Armand had his own designs - new vampires in the city should introduce themselves, it was only polite. Which meant he had made the necessary overtures to ensure the vampiress and her guests would linger after the curtain. Patiently, though distractedly, Marie waited. Once they had been ushered backstage, she struck, before Armand could get to her first. "Hello. I'm Marie. Did you enjoy the show? I've never seen you before, it must be your first time." A wild mane of dark curls, delicate features, a full mouth and pale skin. No more than twenty. If ever there was a beautiful vampire, it was Marie, even beneath the paint and make up. It was a pity she was not more admired for her mind.
starter for @ysabeauxdexclermont
Marie’s greeting barely finishes before Ysabeau’s gaze sharpens — not hostile, but unmistakably assessing,a predator’s pause. a mother’s caution, an elder’s instinctive recoil at a fledgling’s boldness. "Marie" she repeated, but the name is spoken like a boundary, a reminder of distance as she does not offer her name in return quite yet. Of hierarchy.
Her step-daughters still whispering about the shock of it — real vampires on a stage, feeding openly, theatrics masking true danger. Ysabeau does not look back at them; she keeps her eyes on Marie, cool and steady. It was meant to be a bonding moment, Philippe's children will never think Ysabeau a worthy woman and in this error once more the divide between the women of the family grows.
"I came tonight because my daughters thought it would be… amusing. Mortals pretending to be vampires. A harmless spectacle."A faint, humorless exhale. "We did not expect to find actual vampires performing for a mortal crowd. Feeding in plain sight." Her tone does not praise the audacity — it questions it. "Paris has changed since I last walked its nights. You are very young." she observed and there is no warmth in it. Only fact. "Young enough that approaching strangers so freely is… surprising."
"Most fledglings know better than addressing an elder they do not know. You must be very comfortable here. Or very sheltered." She can feel the weakness of the troupe and the impassable barrier that she assumes is the Coven Master by strength of Mind Gift alone.
"The show was… unexpected and my girls were not prepared for it. Nor was I and I do not enjoy surprises."She steps back half a pace, not retreating, but reasserting the space Marie crossed.
"But you have introduced yourself. So I will answer plainly: yes, it is our first time. And no, I did not come expecting to meet our kind."Her gaze lingers on Marie’s painted face, her youth, her eagerness.
"Tell me, little one… does your master encourage you to greet every stranger so boldly? Or is this your own impulse?" she asked. "Genevieve Melisande Helene Ysabeau Aude de Clermont" she introduced herself and how each name sounded like a title.
"Why have we been ushered backstage? Is your Coven attempting to imprison us?" she asked rather bluntly.
Armand’s eyes sparkled a little when he listened to her knowledge about his favourite flower. He could tell that she knew a lot about flowers, which warmed his cold, dead heart. He didn’t know that much, and besides the magnolia tree, he never grew any plants, but he could see the appeal. ❝I am not surprised that you know the meaning of flowers. Or maybe I am a little surprised, but I shouldn’t be.❞ It took him so many centuries to really read up on flower language and meanings. But perhaps it comes more naturally when you are also growing plants. ❝Would you recommend gardening to me? As a hobby, I mean. I am still looking for something that takes my mind off of things. Overthinking and being in my mind is a nasty little habit I desperately try to get rid of.❞
He got dressed in his robe properly as he spoke and looked at the painting. And so far, he had nothing to point out. In fact, her work already had more soul than Marius’ works ever had. And to Armand, this was the most important trait a painting should have. You need to see the soul and passion in it. Without passion, a painting will be nothing other than the use of techniques one has learned. He thanked Marthe for the slippers politely before he followed Ysabeau on her tour. He noticed that there were quite a few shipwrecks. ❝May I ask…why shipwrecks? Does that have a reason? Or is it the beauty of the destruction?❞ He couldn’t believe that she painted those for no reason, and so he had to ask before they came to the nude figures and the infamous bum. Shamelessly, Armand looked at it and had to lift his hand to his lips, just so he could hide a little chuckle.
❝I see why those cheeks gain quite some interest. They are well done and quite impressive at the same time. The shading you did on them is very good. You captured the light quite perfectly so that it appears realistic. With all the flaws a human body might come with. So I suppose that this makes people so fascinated by this particular piece.❞
After all, Armand could only make assumptions. Then they moved to a painting that was certainly Achilles. Well, not quite because Armand recognized that the face was different. But everything else spoke of Achilles. For a moment, Armand was stuck in place, staring at what was once his favourite tale of all time. The Iliad was his favorite piece of literature for a reason. That reason was Achilles and also Patroclus. Whether they were platonic or romantic, he didn’t care much about that anymore, even though mortal Amadeo had very strong opinions. Whatever it was in the end, their bond as it was described by Homer still captivated him. Maybe he was still longing for a bond like that in his own life. Someone who would mourn him. Someone who would care about his existence. He had no such thing in his life right now. He never had such a thing after the death of his best friend.
Quickly, he tore his gaze away again and looked at the spot she wanted to put his painting at. Armand hummed a little bit and nodded. ❝I agree with you. We are all birthed naked into this world. We all are flesh and blood. Each century comes with new ideals of what a woman’s body has to look like.❞ He turned his head to look at her properly and smiled softly. ❝You don’t need the curves of Venus. You are a beautiful woman. Your proportions suit you perfectly. You look aristocratic.❞
He looked at the large picture of her and nodded right away with an almost proud little smile on his face. ❝See. That is what I meant. It is editorial, but it looks very beautiful. The background in combination with the dark clothing makes your eyes stand out beautifully. Your son has a good eye for photography. Then again, his model was very well chosen. You don’t have a bad angle. It doesn’t matter which side of you will be captured, and that’s a rare trait. Most people have a bad side and a good side. They need to hold their head in a certain position, and some are just not photogenic at all. They look beautiful in real life and in the mirror, but not in the lens of a camera.❞
Armand spoke with way too much honesty. He shouldn’t be impudent and say all of these things, but Ysabeau made him feel comfortable enough. A hum fell from his lips, and Armand nodded. ❝He will choose her if he truly loves her. I cannot imagine how hard the decision will be for him. He is your son; I assume your bond is strong, and he loves you dearly. Who do you choose? The person your heart beats for or the security of your family? No matter what he chooses, he will lose. Sometimes, when you have to make a decision, you cannot win because it will always be the wrong decision. Please, don’t get me wrong, I am not taking his side. I just wouldn’t want to be in his shoes. Sometimes, the heart wants what it wants. Whatever it is about this Diana. Did you ever ask him why…her? What it is that makes him love her above all the other women in this world?❞
"I find gardening very therapeutic. There is something very comforting about putting care into something that will bloom and grow beautiful when it was but a little spec of a seed that you planted into dirt. There is something healing about feeling the moist earth, the coldness, the smell, it is a lot of work that you will not see the beauty off for a while. It teaches patience, to cultivate something rather than rush into it. I think patience has been lost in modernity. Everything is so instant, instant messaging, instant gratification, people marry and divorce in a snap of fingers and no one breathes any more to enjoy the moment." She was old in certain regards, old-fashioned. Maybe that was why she did not seek companionship nor had anyone turned her gaze until him. He with the old world chivalry and politeness, he had traits that she found favourable in a man. He was beautiful, otherworldly beautiful and anyone that had eyes was sure to notice but she had seen many handsome men and none particularly interested her beyond a glance, he on the other hand was infectious. She found herself thinking of him more than she was comfortable, in quiet moments her mind drifted to wonder what he was up to, if he was well. If his search proved fruitful.
Shipwrecks fascinated her as a subject of paintings and he noticed. "I like a story half-told, how it is a moment frozen in time, grief made visible. A ruin that becomes a sanctuary for a new life, ruin and serenity. How glad the survivors must feel to simply be alive. How in that moment there is clarity" It was the truth…but not the entire truth. They are violent events with quiet aftermaths. The violence is over, the storm has passed, the ship lies still. A wreck is the moment after the horror, when the subjects can finally breathe she would one day tell him and complete the picture.
She watched him fascinated as he admired the figure in the fields of Elysium, as he admired the painting in thought she admired his ebony curls and how they fell, a small part of her wanted to be audacious and touch one but she would resist and entwine her hands in front of her to banish the temptation. "Do you like that one?" she asked when he finished looking at it. "Did you first notice the rivers, the meadow or the handsome warrior snoozing under the warm spring sun?" she asked. "I wondered once on the afterlife. The dead drink from Lithe the Greeks believed and so forget and are in peace. What would peace look like, to a warrior I thought. The fields of Elysium do not particularly have the sun, Helios is far away, but to me that would be a warrior's peace. A snooze in the sun naked and warm, a moment of respite. What will he do next? Does he even belong in a refuge full of peace?" she explained the sun bathing beauty.
What was that hideous feeling in her chest? He speaks but one compliment and it is as if butterflies infect her respiratory system and her digestive track, she almost wants to demand more praises out of him like some young girl. Hideous feeling, to desire someone. How dare he, had he not dishevelled her enough? Had he not done enough to infect her mind already? "You speak such words of honey, Armand. I would be cautious offering them to lonely women ensnared by your beauty. Terrible things might happen if you allow yourself to be thought of as desirable. I might grow accustomed to your praises and lose all decorum and demand more." the ancient warned him.
"I know why her. Because he is an idiot with terrible taste in women" Ysabeau answered so matter-of-factly. "He will choose her and will lose everything else, they don't write stories of choosing the familiar, no they write stories for the love that defied. But two fools in Verona are the reason six died." She exhaled softly, she didn't need to but she did as a habit she still held even two thousand years later. "If you do not stand for something you will fall for anything, yeah, yeah yeah" she waved her hand around but Armand was not wrong. Matthew would lose either way.
"It is serious. He is bonded with her. Mated. Companions. Put it how ever you wish to put it, he chose her and it will come with serious ramifications. It breaks sacred covenants and..." Ysabeau had to steady herself. "His half brother is a vampire of great distinction who has always held disdain for Matthew and this might give him ample opportunity to act on his disdain...but I apologize. You are not here to listen to our family drama. I simply dread that in this instance I am both the wound and the blade-" The ancient regained her cold composure once more but even now there was warmth in her eyes that she lacked for anyone else.
"Come, let us return to the observatory. Can I offer you a warm drink?" It was never the same warmed from a blood bag than fresh from the vein but what sort of host would she be if she did not offer her model a drink at least.
Back at the observatory the painting was curing under the heat and UV lamp to speed up the drying process. "May I show you something?" she asked and powered up the telescope and if he agreed she would show him Cygnus. "Allow your eyes to adjust, Cygnus is not the most obvious pattern, it reveals itself gradually as your eyes adjust." It fitted their dynamic she thought, something unfolding in increments, never rushed, always deliberate. "Look there—do you see the line of light? That’s Deneb. Follow it down… the wings open. It’s Cygnus. The Swan. I thought you’d like how it moves across the Milky Way. It never looks like it’s flying away. Only toward. I gazed at Deneb the other night and for a brief thought you sprung to mind, luminous but not ostentatious"
Thinking about Botticelli made him frown a bit. He never talked about the disappointment he felt and how much he struggled back in the day. But considering that Ysabeau was his friend, he could open up to at least one person about it.
“I admired him to the point where I was thinking about making him one of us,” Marius admitted. “I learned from his techniques. His early works resembled the humanity of the Renaissance. But at some point his works became dark, savage, without any life in them and without hope. The bright light of innocence and hopefulness I saw in him was gone and he got entrapped in the narrow-minded view of the mortal Christian church. I thought about giving him the blood to free him from the darkness of the church and bring him into the light of hopefulness he once possessed. A foolish thought of mine, and I am glad I didn’t do it.” He sighed softly while thinking about the talent he saw in Amadeo. “Amadeo’s talent is much greater than Botticelli’s. The icons he painted were full of light and innocence. I have never seen such fine art before. But when I tried to give him a brush to paint along with his brothers, he couldn’t do it. Even in private, he cannot hold a brush anymore. He shakes like a leaf and starts crying and begging.” Even though Marius didn’t say it out loud, his voice was emphasizing that this kind of behaviour disappointed him greatly. Even after he blocked Amadeo’s bad memories, he still couldn’t do it.
He nodded at Ysabeau’s words. It was good to hear such things from a mother. Maybe he didn’t fail his boys that much. With a soft smile on his lips, Marius thanked Ysabeau for doing him this favour.
As they parted ways and he guided Ysabeau to her chambers, Marius made preparations for her dress and mask. He left a note for Vincenzo, the oldest of the boys. The next night, he had their gondola prepared, which brought them to Bianca’s palazzo. Amadeo greeted Ysabeau properly in the way he was taught by Marius and the tutors. He even learned a few words of French for her.
“She will love it. It’s a very fine piece.” Marius said, and Amadeo’s eyes sparkled upon seeing such a piece of jewelry. Of course, the boy was delighted to be allowed to attend the ball as well and to have an important role in keeping their guest safe. He had a little dagger on his belt and reassured their beautiful guest that no one would dare to put a hand on her.
They made it into the spacious salon of the Palazzo that had been carefully prepared for the occasion. Amadeo guided Ysabeau inside like a gentleman while Marius stayed behind as he had someone to talk to first. Amadeo brought Ysabeau to another young blond woman who turned out to be Bianca Solderini and introduced both properly.
“Madame de Clermont, oh I am so delighted to finally meet you. Marius talked so highly of you. I thank you for your way too generous gift.” The blond courtesan smiled her brightest smile. “Please enjoy the night; I look forward to our conversation. And…” She leaned in so she could lower her voice a little bit. “Be careful of those women by the bouquet of roses. They are senators’ wives and their preferred topic of conversation is the newest fabrics.”
Marius approached them and kissed the back of Bianca’s hand to greet her properly. “You can spend time with Bianca, if you wish, Amadeo.” Marius offered, and the boy’s dark eyes lit up right away. Even Bianca giggled a bit and took Amadeo’s hand in her own to show him something.
“She likes you,” Marius said and offered Ysabeau his hand and guided her to the dance floor. It’s been a while since he danced properly, but Ysabeau made it easy for him to get back into it. “It is fascinating, isn’t it? The colour of his skin should be reason enough for mortals to frown upon him. But instead they offer him gems for his attention. Senators offer me gold for him. Do you hear his thoughts? He isn’t humble. He basks in the attention and gifts. Does any of your children find too much liking in the worldly wealth?”
"When at the temple the older acolytes taught us to maintain the murals they would strike our knuckles when our hand wavered. It was a chore, clean the floors, sweep the steps, polish the statues and bring the tributes to the head priestess to pray over. It took five centuries at least for me to learn to enjoy painting, I will never compare to you or Botticelli or your apprentice but perhaps as an artist, you ought to nourish the joy of art to a young man that seems to think it sorrowful. He is so bless with good fortunes that he will not struggle in life. I to this day still sigh at the idea of painting murals on walls" Ysabeau would paint the walls of their home alongside Matthew but it was more as they were the most skilled and relied upon, wanting to make their home beautiful than enjoying the idea of making murals.
"I will speak to him, your Amadeo. I will take one of your canvasses and your paint pots and I will dip my fingers in the colour and paint flowers, ask for his help. See if art has lost it's joy or it is the tools." She finger painted on ceramics at home finding herself more dexterous on porous surface with his finger than a brush. "Or is the disappointment not in that he does not share your passion for art but that he shall not be his generation's Botticelli?" Oh dear.
Ysabeau bowed her head slightly to Bianca's warning. "That shall not be a problem, Signora. I too share a passion for textiles. Thank you for your most gracious warning and delightful welcome to your beautiful home" Ysabeau's face did not show how she thought it beneath a host to mock her guest's interests or how she felt slighted by the warning, Ysabeau was the sort to be enthusiastic over this innovation of clothing and textiles and fabrics. Bianca was young, she thought to herself, and placing one above the other women was common for young women in such competitive lives. Did Bianca have girlfriends? Women that she felt safe with? Or had her life made her too cautious, she wondered to herself for a brief few moments.
"She is a beauty and has a very cunning mind" Ysabeau praised the courtesan. "I suppose I shall not gift her Toulouse silks any time soon nor will she be as fascinated as me about maroon being far more commercially accessible due to the madder roots b- nevermind" she stopped herself from prattling on. "You confuse me endlessly my dear friend. You fret about Amadeo's purity, the purity of his soul but associate with a courtesan in friendship. You are ever dichotomous and that is as much a praise as it is puzzlement" she moved to the music but much like Marius her gaze stayed as much as possible on Amadeo and Bianca.
Ysabeau laughed. For a brief moment she lost her composure completely and for 2 seconds laughed in a single exhaled breath the entirety of the breath of her lungs. "Apologies-" she apologized to Marius and hid her mouth behind her hand. "I am so sorry, how unbecoming of me." She sniggered so very softly as to barely be audible. "My children have Philippe as their father who is a man that fashions himself golden and victorious who has not spent a day allowing his children to forget they are his dynasty. He has grown more pacifistic, ironic I know considering I am here abandoned in favour of yet another war of his but boys do not grow up raised by Hercules and Achilles to be demure and humble, girls do not grow up under such accepting anything less than king's ransoms at their feet just to be spared a glance of theirs." Ysabeau answered and would find them a quieter corner to retire and chat.
"I can't judge Amadeo for enjoying attention and gifts when I am far worse. The necklace I gifted Bianca belonged to Violant of Bar and I parted with it on a whim lacking time to buy appropriate gifts. I do not like it, I never liked it's shape, it was a necklace fashioned for a bosomy woman to rest upon Aphrodite's supple breasts but if I parted with a queen's necklace so easily, do you think I lack wordly wealth?" she asked simply to make it clear that she could not judge Amadeo for wanting attention and gifts when she refused to wear anything that would not be seen adorning a queen at the least. "Wrath and Greed have always been my mortal sins, I am afraid my dear friend."
"Does it bother you? That he is so incredibly handsome?" Ysabeau asked curious. "As the wife of someone very desired I can understand if it bothers you that half of every room he enters fawns over his beauty. At least half-" She did not think Marius as a man that would be insecure about someone good looking but she also did not think Marius of all people would be so obsessed with the purity of one's soul and she knew better now didn't she.
"I have gazed at thousands of men, if I had to paint Adonis he certainly would have Amadeo's features. The sort of beauty that ensnares Gods." she did not need to look at Marius to make it clear she meant him, that Amadeo ensnared him like Adonis did Aphrodite.

It felt like a loss when she let go of his hand, but of course he didn't protest. It was painful to hear of her loss. If there was one thing he understood it was that. He did not have to speak of Nicki or Gabriella or Claudia for her to understand. Perhaps even when they were in want of those they loved, they would always have companions in grief. Vampires, even in their growing number, somehow always alone. A cruel fate, he thought. Worse than death. As she warned him of the inevitable, he found some solace in her words.
There would always be something new, even as the old fell away. And if time and sorrow did not kill him, he might even come to enjoy what lay ahead. As she guessed as to the topic he wished to discuss, he chuckled darkly. "You're close. I'm sure you've noticed, perhaps more than anyone, that our numbers are growing. Like locusts, we multiply. We're obviously still the minority, a hundred thousand if that to eight billion but that's not where my concern lies. In fact, I wouldn't call it concern, it's none of my business.
"But it does seem intentional, doesn't it? Like something is happening on purpose. More reach out every day. I don't mind the album sales but...is there cause for concern? Gabriella has not been forthcoming. If you tell me it's nothing, I'll believe you." A pause, before he smiles again, the shadow that had passed across his features banished. "And I like peonies. My favorite flower. They are hard to kill. Beautiful, resilient. Defiant. Not even winter cannot deter them." He tilts his head. "Not unlike you, ma belle."
As a man that seems forgiving...that might be off puttiing"
some witches thought they could trap @chervbino!
Art meant a great deal to her, a vampire that painted not for strangers but because it deserved to exist so of course she would come with him when he mentioned how said painting was created, a painting that did not deserve to exist. Armand had been nothing but a gentleman, their courtship so slow, she was not a vampire than thought she had a heart left to give to someone. Six months before they even shared a kiss, one late night waiting for dawn to come, now weeks later. He held her purse when she exited the hired vehicle and she could taste it, witches. She tasted their arcane pulling through the air, she smelled it...almost like a room full of Ozone leaking through windows and doors.
"Of course it is a trap" Ysabeau answered. "...and only the second circle of the nine. I thought you were supposed to be Beatrice...perhaps you were Virgil instead" Dante journeyed into nine circles and in it's second the lustful were punished. What was this painting but Santino's lust for Amadeo's innocence. "I am a big believer in stepping on tripwires, it forces the hunter to come and check his traps." She adjusted her garments again and took Armand's arm by the bicep so they could walk inside.
It was quiet, their approach. No one would ever notice how as they walked inside a table got misaligned, a seat moved just three inches to the left. Perhaps she was not afraid of death, perhaps she knew it was not Fated for tonight. "How fortunate we have been to enjoy some peace." Ysabeau spoke as they stood right in front of the painting. "You asked me once, why do I like shipwrecks. I told you that I liked a story half-told, how it is a moment frozen in time, grief made visible. A ruin that becomes a sanctuary for a new life, ruin and serenity. It was the truth…but not the entire truth. They are violent events with quiet aftermaths. The violence is over, the storm has passed, the ship lies still. A wreck is the moment after the horror, when the subjects can finally breathe."
She took off her hairpin, blond hair cascaded. "Hm- I thought you would have made a move the moment I started to philosophise" she spoke to no one in particular. "Alright then, I suppose then Queen will threaten pawn-" With her hairpin she slashed the canvas diagonally from the top right corner to the bottom left, permanently a divine now between Santino and his sacrificial lamb.
Footsteps approached, a woman's lips parted and with force Ysabeau threw her hairpin, whatever incantation the woman was about to speak choked in her perforated throat, the two others with her gawk in surprise.
"As I thought. Children playing war games" The witch collapsed choking on blood.
Witches read intention, fear, hesitation, the 'temperature' of a mind and Armand and Ysabeau have none. Blank slates of stillness. //Every triumvirate has a a pivot witch. One whose magic stabilizes the other.// A single perfectly timed disruption, a thrown object for example breaks the synchronization. The pre-weaved spell collapses like a bridge losing it's central support.
//Impress me young Adonis.// her lips gently kiss his temple. She only offered Armand the destabilization of his enemy's formation, it was for Armand now to show her what made him such a terrifying vampire.
And once again, Armand couldn’t hold back his burst of laughter. He liked the way she was thinking about art and how she was approaching the matter. But even more, he was amused by how she was talking about Marius and his vision. Amadeo had never been a cherub, not in the sense of how Marius wanted him to be, but he used to grow tired of the discussion and just let him think whatever he wanted.
❝I was never the cherub he wanted me to be, not even in my mortal years. Maybe my face looked innocent, but I was never. The pureness of the Renaissance was a concept I could respect. I could see the appeal. However, I can see why you hold negative feelings. Being reminded of a period of loneliness does not make an era appealing.❞ Armand mused without moving a muscle in his body. ❝There are a few things I regret. Missing the baroque is one of those things. I experienced nothing of that time period. I saw the changes whenever I left the underground hiding place beneath a cemetery in Paris. But there were only two occasions for a Coven Master to leave: to feed or to hunt down another vampire. Either because they ran away from the Coven, or because they entered the Coven’s territory. I did not witness Versailles, another thing I deeply regret. I would have loved to see it in it’s prime. I would have loved to attend one of those lavish parties.❞ He made a soft humming sound while he was dwelling in his thoughts. ❝I visited the gardens of Versailles once. Maybe two decades ago. Nice, but I assume not as impressive as it used to be back then.❞
Perhaps, he was rambling a little too much. Armand couldn’t turn back time. He had to live with the fact that he missed important pieces of history because of Santino and the satanic coven. But could he really blame them when he simply never rebelled? He fell silent again so he could listen to her, and he could relate to the conflict. Enduring was a word he knew too well. ❝You made it your strength then. The most dangerous of us are those who radiate peace and comfort. Many men back in the day did not realize that it wasn’t them making decisions but their wives. The powerful women of history were forgotten because they left the spotlight to their husbands. I did not rule alone either. My first coven was led by me on the outside, but it was Allesandra who had been the closest to me. Her advice and her strength held the coven together. Not me.❞ He could admit that now without putting himself down.
❝My favourite flower is the Magnolia. I used to grow a magnolia tree with pink petals.❞ Was this odd? He didn’t know. Most of the time, Armand had no clue what people expected from him when they laid their eyes on him. A soft smirk appeared on his lips. Yes, he always used to be much harsher on Marius’ works, but maybe he just wanted his Master to do better, like Marius always wanted Amadeo to do better.
Slowly, he turned his head a bit to the side, just enough that he could observe Ysabeau as she spoke. But instead of judging her, a smile formed on his lips. It was a soft and almost fond little smile. ❝We should agree on not apologizing for our honesty anymore. You do not speak ill of your son. I can hear the worry of a mother in your words. Is that really something to apologize for? Isn’t it natural not to like a potential daughter-in-law at first? Love makes us stupid. Sometimes, I feel like our kind is much more prone to that than a mortal. Most of us love with every fiber of our hearts. And keeping in mind that he is your son, I assume that Matthew is a man of strong will and passion. It is not my place to give advice, so I don’t. I just hope for you and for him that he doesn’t have to choose between the family and his loved one one day.❞ Armand turned his head back in the original position and closed his eyes. Armand remained still until she allowed him to take a break. He carefully put the grapes away in the bowl again and got up from his position. He slipped his right arm into the sleeve and pulled everything tight so Ysabeau wouldn’t feel awkward around him. Curious about how the painting looked so far, he walked around to glance over her shoulder.
❝Oh…❞ he whispered and tilted his head to the side. ❝That’s me?❞ obviously. A lump formed in his throat even though it was just his outlines. But he could envision it much better now. And something about this painting was already doing something to him. ❝You are going to make me emotional. I didn’t think that my appearance could fit in such a scenario. I never doubted your talent, by the way. Now…anyway…please scandalize me with your works.❞
She painted and listened to every little tidbit of information Armand felt comfortable divulging as with creatures such as them there was no such thing as casual conversation, much like she knew he was assesing and studying her she was doing the same. Or she at least assumed that he was picking up the little pieces she offered as to create the mosaic that was Ysabeau, to maybe understand each other a little more. "Perhaps the Renesance reminded me I was never allowed to be delightful and innocent. Nemesis was a demanding Goddess, the temple accolytes cruel and I simply needed an excuse to be bitter. It is my prerogative to stew in my own bile every now and again. But I will revisit her masterworks once more with the new perspective. Maybe I will play a game, try to guess which ones you inspired just to make museum visits more interesting and really bother to look at the brush strokes of the Old Greats"
"I will cheat of course. You presented an era and I can make educated guesses on who viably has met you in a short timeframe" Ysabeau's eyes were alight with mischief something that did not light up her marble cold face. "Magnolias it will be. Endurance, eternity and long life, purity, perfection or in Chinese tradition the flower of the Yin, the feminine side of life. The flower of dignity and nobility. There is a lot to work with. Perhaps I will paint you in the a feminine stance, soft in face and delicate swoops of light caressing your form as if the moon herself kisses your skin to bless you with her light." The moon another symbol of endurance and eternity. "I will mull over some ideas-" Yes, she'd quite like to gift him a painting eventually as thanks for his time. Too easy to just paint him in a garden of magnolias, no, she wanted a twist. How is he a magnolia flower-
She finished his body and the paint would have to be allowed to dry before she worked on his face, the outline of his face already in pencil to guide her brushstrokes later. "Art evokes feelings you need not feel apologetic for it. You are being peeled back and reforged into something you never have been on canvas before-" Ysabeau put her hand on his forearm and squeezed. "Yes, come. I will show you some of my works." She would give him a tour of some of her paintings after Marthe brought him a pair of slippers, a fair few shipwrecks that seemed to be her favourite subject, a painting of a naked blond man in a meadow although it was more landscape of the fields of Elysium and the naked blond man stomach down on the field was having a snooze with his bum cheeks in the sun was more form than detail.
Landscapes of meadows, of lakes, deep blues and dark greens. Many of her figures were nude with their bum on show including Aquarius, a woman's back and bum as she poured water out of her large jug and splashed water to surround the fame of the painting, Libra was holding a scale with a glass of wine on one side and a scroll on the other but she was right Aquarius was much better painted. "As I said I am very low brow." And yet all of them seemed to be painted in joy. Aquarius washing the painting, Achilles or perhaps it was Philippe painted as Achilles snoozing in the perfect spring sun, the seven muses running to Apollo to be clothed in his sun, so it seemed she enjoyed painting dark skies full of stars, still lakes under moonlight, devastating shipwrecks and serene people with firm buns.
"I will put you over there... and replace Libra with the muses of Apollo. They were my knitting circle, the ladies that modelled as the muses. Aquarius was my gardener's wife. I mostly thought how we go from liberated to puritan, how bodies are so taboo. Women specifically so often criticised for too much breast, too little. Too tall, too short. What is the body if but the temple to house our spirit and why must be so scandalised by a bum or a breast. Lumps of fat- then again I never was gifted with the curves of Venus." She was very tall and never much had the physique of a beanpole.
"Oh, I want to show you something while we are here-" She pulled out of a drawer a large picture of her. "My son Matthew took that one. Isn't it so editorial?" she asked with pride beaming. "Diana will be the death of us." she closed the drawer and shook her head lightly. "I dread that he will have to choose and he will choose her. If it comes to it- but no matter. Children are made to break your heart and eat your food."
COUNTRY NIGHTS & COLD BEER — ROLEPLAY STARTERS
(dusty roads · warm bottles · low porch lights · confessions sweeter than the drink)
OUT ON THE BACKROADS - HEADLIGHTS & GRAVEL
• “Get in—road’s quiet tonight, might as well enjoy it.” • “Careful, the gravel’s loose. Don’t want you falling before the night even starts.” • “You ever just drive until the world disappears? …Want to?” • “Sit closer. Truck rides better when we’re not pretending there’s space between us.” • “It’s just you, me, and a long road. Got anything you’ve been wanting to say?” • “Lean out the window if you want—wind feels good tonight.” • “Turn the music up. Loud enough to drown the week out.” • “I don’t get nights like this often. Glad you’re the one I’m sharing it with.”
BONFIRE GLOW - SPARKS & SMOKE
• “Fire’s warm—come sit. I saved you a spot.” • “Hold your beer tight. Last time someone knocked it into the fire.” • “Don’t lean back too far, you’ll end up smelling like charcoal.” • “Every time the flames light your face… damn. You look different.” • “Give me your hands. Cold nights require shared heat.” • “Tell me a secret—you’ve got the firelight look. Makes people honest.” • “Watch the sparks. They always remind me how fast things burn.” • “Stay close. Coyotes sound louder when you’re alone.”
NEON BARLIGHTS - MUSIC LOW, GLANCES HIGH
• “You want another beer or are you already past your limit?” • “Dance with me—don’t worry, no one’s sober enough to judge.” • “Scoot over. Bar stools aren’t meant to be polite.” • “You keep looking at me like that. Want to tell me why?” • “If you spill that on me, you’re buying the next three rounds.” • “This song’s good. Perfect for leaning in closer.” • “Stay till close with me? I’m not ready to go home.” • “If you’re gonna flirt, you better commit to it.”
TAILGATE NIGHTS - STARS OVERHEAD
• “Hop up—tailgate’s sturdy enough for both of us.” • “Careful, it’s cold metal. Here—sit closer, I’ll warm you up.” • “Look up. Stars don’t shine like this when you’re sober or inside.” • “If you lie down, you’ll see the sky right. Trust me.” • “You keep brushing against me… intentional?” • “I brought an extra beer if you want it. Not sharing mine.” • “Tell me what you’re thinking. Nights like this make people brave.” • “If you fall asleep on my shoulder, I won’t complain.”
DRUNKEN LAUGHTER - STUMBLING INTO SOMETHING MORE
• “Okay—okay, stop, you’re making me laugh too hard. I’m gonna spill this.” • “If I’m leaning on you, it’s because you’re stable. Don’t get cocky.” • “I swear, you get cuter the more I drink.” • “Hey—hold my beer. I’m about to do something stupid.” • “Walk me straight. Or at least try.” • “Sit with me. The ground’s spinning less when you’re nearby.” • “If I say something embarrassing, pretend you didn’t hear it.” • “You’re warm. Don’t move yet.”
QUIET MOMENTS - TRUTH BETWEEN SIPS
• “It’s funny… beer loosens my tongue, but you’re the one who makes me honest.” • “Tell me something you’ve never told anyone.” • “Why do you keep looking at my mouth?” • “Come here—stop hiding behind that bottle.” • “Ever think we’d end up here? Like this?” • “You want the last drink? I’ll share if you sit closer.” • “Hold still—there’s something in your hair.” • “I like this. You. The night. All of it.”
THE NIGHT WINDS DOWN - BUT NOT THE FEELING
• “Don’t go yet. Stay till the last bit of the fire burns out.” • “If you’re cold, use me. I won’t bite.” • “Want a ride home? Or… want to keep driving with no destination?” • “I’ll walk you inside. Just in case.” • “You can finish that beer on my porch. No hurry.” • “Promise me we’ll do this again. Same time. Same way.” • “If I kiss you… would the night forgive me?” • “I don’t want this to end. Not yet.”
