Half a year had passed since she first encountered the amber eyed vampire in London on the eve of the coven's fall. Half a year and their pursuit brought them not much closer to the cause of these combustions. All roads lead to Venice...and then Rome. In an old mausoleum they found sanctuary looking at each other leaning on the edges of their crypts talking. "If we are to speak of vulnerable stories move over" she demanded and laid herself on top of him resting her chin on his chest. "I saw Red Serpents slithering towards our village followed by a golden eagle that then sprouted two heads. That was the last vision Nemesis gave to me as a mortal girl. We inhaled the vapors and starved ourselves for three nights and I was once again the last to get a vision...but mine was longer. I had a vision of you once... before I ever laid eyes on you. Your hand reached to Apollo on a roof of snow and a innocent angel pulled you inside."

She knew that in the grasps of Amel their minds were not as shielded as when they were conscious, that he had seen that she thought of him often as of late. He looked the picture of a cherub, the smirk suited him. "I would apologize for dragging you into the inferno Beatrice, but I dread I lack the remorse. Your company the only thing making the three circles bearable" No, he wasn't the Virgin to her Dante, he was Beatrice, a guide of comfort through perilous times.

They had not blinked since she laid herself on top of him. His fingers were so gentle as they dared to push her hair off her brow, touched her as if she was fragile crystal. He leaned closer, she nuzzled his nose against his to encourage him, Ysabeau moved her hands off his chest to on either side of his head. "Brave little pup." she praised allowing him to kiss her, ever the gentleman. Too bad she did not wish to be thought off too much as a lady and met his soft kiss with a passionate one instead, her hands prying Armand's off her to pin them against the crypt just to look over his angelic face and smile.

"The Audacity of Young Adonis to catch the eye of a Goddess. Do you think he'd consider his death and rebirth a cycle worth enduring for his audacity, Armand?" she asked keeping him right there under her strong hands, just to toy with him. He was fun to toy with, only the most strongest ever were.

"Go on, do it. Show me this strength of mind that make vampires of old flee as if you were some Eldritch terror...I still see just a polite young man with beautiful eyes and words of honey...show me." she whispered ghosting her lips above his wanting to see if he could push her mind and make her release his dainty hands.

She is not a vampire that rushes into things, she is not a woman that appreciates men that uncork a bottle and guzzle it's contents freely and how in some regards they are polar opposites. The brash young brat flaunting himself for the mortals, his decadence and sexuality commercialized and how around her there was ....pause. As there should be.

Let it be known that she is a woman that demanded pause.

She would not peer into his mind but she did not need to. He had moved closer to her a few times already upon this night, they waited for the comets to cross the sky somewhere in the outskirts of Lafayette, Indianna. There is a certain gaze shared across the spectrum of men when they consider whether they ought to....or not. She thought the way he looked at her, how his eyes lingered on her face a certain way to be the look of a man with amorous intentions, whether it was true or not....was for Lestat to know.

"I remember first seeing Pluto with my new telescope and wondering if we would ever see it. Perhaps never achieving interstellar travel but the edges of our solar system conquered would be interesting would it not?" she spoke and looked back to the sky again.

Her hand went top of his. "But enough about my existential wonder and awe of the stars little lion."

"You should get back into your muscle car and return to your tour bus before they leave you behind" she suggested and did not stop him when he leaned in, pulling back just a little to nuzzle their noses first.

A grin and a soft laugh as her hand cupped his cheek to allow him to breach personal space, lips met softly, too softly for her liking, her fingers curled into his blond hair holding him right here, a precious ripe peach of a man and on his poetic lips she feasted.

Her hand found his chest but she pushed him backwards, pinned him to the grass and stepped over him to pack her telescope. "Travel safe little lion"

A soft little laugh fell from Marius’ lips. It was amusement and maybe also the faint relief that he was among someone who understood him. The laws had a reason, and Marius would abide by those he found reasonable. Mingling among mortals should not be forbidden, but revealing their kind to them was something Marius avoided. So, the vampire nodded at her, hearing that they shared a similar mindset when it came to mortals. “I do have mortal servants as well. My apprentices need to eat, so I hired two cooks. We don’t have other servants, as I taught my apprentices to take care of this Palazzo on their own. They clean, they do the laundry unless it is very fine velvet and damask.” He would also send them for groceries during the day before their private tutoring and painting lessons.

Marius tilted his head a little bit to the side. His facial expression remained calm and collected. But it surprised him that Philippe took mortal lovers. It awfully reminded him of Pandora and how she took her mortal lovers as well until she wanted to make one of them like them. Marius was not sure how she was doing now and with whom she was, and it bothered him more than he wanted to admit. “You would feel it,” he suddenly said. “If something happens to him, you will feel it. The bond you share with your husband is strong, and he is a soul much older than any I know. If ill fate befalls him, he will be strong enough to push one last message through to you.” Marius put his brush down while he thought about his next words carefully. “Pandora is my fledgling. We cannot communicate, but I know she is alive. I can feel it. I can feel her.”

“Matthew is the little boy you watched, isn’t he?” Oh, Marius understood that too well. “Was it his choice to join your husband on this...battle? Not everyone is made for the battlefield.” Marius certainly wasn’t. He wouldn’t engage in wars like that, but he knew how to fight viciously if necessary. “Amadeo…well. I rescued him from a brothel here in Venice. I heard his cries; he begged for death and prayed. When I first laid my eyes on him, he reminded me of a Botticelli angel. But that was not the reason why I took him here. I noticed that he has a gift. He painted wonderful icons, a talent for art unmatched and worthy of the old masters. But he cannot touch a brush anymore. I tried, but he will not touch them. He is a young child, my little cherub child, but I cannot make him one of us before his third decade.” But Amadeo couldn’t understand that.

Marius moved a bit to the side so Ysabeau could look at her portrait closely. “It would be an honour to meet your husband in person. And I shall give him the gentle advice not to leave his wife alone for too long. Battles can be fought outside of the battlefield. And I myself have encountered that mortal politics can become helpful.”

He turned to look at his painting before his lips curved into a smile. “Oh, a little bit of mischief.” Marius took the brush again and turned to the painting. He dipped the brush into the paint and made some alterations to the length of her hair. It wasn’t much. The human eye wouldn’t notice, but the vampiric eye could tell.

“A good friend of mine, Bianca Solderini, a mortal, will hold a masquerade ball tomorrow night. Would you give me the honour of joining me? Or do you have to return by then?”

"If I had a chose a vampire who acted ungovernable it would be you, Marius." Marius did not belong to a coven, had not made his own coven or clan, she wouldn't say he broke the rule of not revealing their nature to mortals but absolutely bent it enough that he shaped it to his own meaning. "Oh he mentions damask and fine velvet as if it is common in his abode" Ysabeau cocked an eyebrow at the humblebragging as Marius probably did not intend it this way, the same way Marius did not check the gold in his pockets or haggle with the many vendors this palazzo relied on.

"It must have been hell to hear her mind silence when you embraced her in the dark gift" She was curious about it, about Pandora, about them but not enough to firmly pry, certainly enough to try and get him to relinquish the information though. "Deep down, I know that if he perished one of our sons would find a way to send word. Hugh has friends in many courts, Matthew knows the art of espionage, Baldwin would carry him across the continent just to bury him at home. But a wife will always worry and fret when letters are scarce" She thought for a moment that at least their minds were not shut from each other, they mated, became companions but she was not of Philippe's blood and how intimate it was to look into his mind and see herself through the lens of him.

"Matthew is formidable. But my sons do not have a choice nor do my daughters. Philippe chose strong men for his clan and Matthew will have to spend his entire life proving himself a worthy man. Philippe is not like you...he chose his sons and daughters for their utility. Verin was an assassin, Hugh the negotiator bringing warring sides to the bargaining table, Godfrey for his strong conscience. Stasia for her resolve, Freyja…he named her after the Norse Goddess of war for a reason. Baldwin is a Roman like you, had he not fell in battle he would have been a legionary by next season. Matthew has proven himself a very fierce warrior…and for that Philippe accepted him. Louisa who is made of me is proving herself an excellent spy and Louis...let us not discuss Louis, the loss of him still wounds me deeply" His very recent death still stained her heart.

"Cherub child. I dread the artist will carve away the marble and not find an angel waiting to be revealed. He looks at you with the longing of young men. That sort of longing. A man of thirty would suit you well if you were to make him a companion." She did not read Amadeo's mind, she did not need to, the way his gaze lingered for Marius said it all. That youth was in love if she was to be romantic, which she rarely was.

"I was planning to remain a burden on you for a while until word of my husband's triumph reaches and he returns home. There is not much to return to Spain for" Where their main abode currently stood. "I would like to make her acquaintance, I hear she is a very influential young woman. I am sure I can repurpose a dress if one of your apprentices can be dispatched to find me a mask. Light blue, should sketching of the attendants be taken, I will steal mine and send it to Philippe. He favours me in light blue and lilac. What will you wear? What time will we arrive? Is Amadeo or Riccardo joining us?"

Not entering someone’s mind was a sign of respect from Armand’s side. Ysabeau was naturally skilled enough to keep her thoughts shielded, so Armand couldn’t hear anything without really diving in there. She invited him into her home, and even though this could be a trap, Armand didn’t get that feeling from her. And usually, he was quite good at reading the signs when someone was threatening him. The corners of his lips tugged up just so slightly. It could be considered a smile or something else entirely. ❝You are flattering me. I am not used to compliments from a beautiful woman of status and power,❞ he said in his very soft-spoken manner. His voice was silken and non-threatening, and yet it lacked emotion as always. Perhaps it was noticeable that he didn’t disclose his maker any further yet.

Interested in her words, Armand decided to remain silent. Until he was asked a question, he hummed a little and truly thought about it. He never thought about a general gender distribution in his covens. It didn’t matter to him, but maybe he was the strange one for not seeing a person’s gender at all. What they had between their legs has never been his concern. His brows furrowed just so slightly, and the pads of his thumb and index finger of his right hand rubbed against each other. It was a habit he picked up centuries ago as it helped him to keep his mind sorted and focused on the task at hand. ❝The children of Satan, my first coven was pretty equal. The mad queen, as she is called, Allesandra was the second in charge. She taught me how to lead a coven. Hm, in the theater we were more men for some reason.❞ A reason he did not know. But maybe it was because of what Ysabeau said that they were outnumbered in general. Armand put his hands behind his back and held them a bit while listening to her again. ❝You shall not give the Dark Gift to the crippled or children. It was a rule in the theatre coven. I don’t think stature is what matters. Not anymore, or not in my orbit. If that would’ve made a rule, I wouldn’t have gotten the Dark Gift.” Because his stature was not typically masculine in the warrior sense. He was not tall enough; his shoulders weren’t broad enough.

Naturally, his gaze went down to his exposed chest. A soft little chuckle fell from his lips, a first very genuine reaction. “Thank you, if it isn’t too much trouble for you. Copies would be appreciated.❞ Armand finally answered with audible amusement lingering in his voice.

A charming little smile stretched on his lips, and he nodded without any hesitation. ❝If you offer me the honour of hearing the long story, I prefer that one.❞ It wasn't like he was in a rush or anything like that. As a habit, Armand stood completely still while he listened to the woman's soothing voice. He didn't blink; he didn't make any sound to try to avoid any interruption. Now, with the background information, things made sense to him. The power and authority she radiated. Everything seemed to circle back to her companion, no husband, who seemed like he was no longer alive. What a tragic loss. Armand could relate to it as he too had suffered losing those he loved even though they didn't die.

When she finished her story, Armand finally moved again by nodding his head slightly. ❝It does, and I thank you for your honesty.❞ Armand folded his hands while he kept her gaze the entire time. It was his turn now to offer something. A little olive branch of trust without revealing something that could make him look weak.

❝The satanic Parisian coven? Yes, that was my doing. I lured Lestat to us, knowing that he would show the coven a life they never thought was possible. They ran away; some went mad. I ended the lives of those who went mad. Living in dirt, like rats in the shadows, was not what I believed in.❞ Armand shrugged a little. ❝The theater coven was more complicated. I didn't want the job, but I did it for Lestat. But then Lestat's fledglings came to Paris, and things fell apart. I could have stopped the loss of obedience, but I was in love with Louis. I wanted him more than anything in the world. And so I freed him, and he set the theater on fire and killed the coven members.❞ That was the short version of a story that had so many layers to it. ❝Let's say, I didn't destroy the covens on my own; I just didn't prevent the destruction.❞

He paused again and took a deliberate deep breath. ❝Marius de Romanus.❞ he suddenly said without any context. ❝My maker is Marius de Romanus. He was born before Christ and was located in Venice during my mortal days. Maybe you or your late husband have crossed paths with him.❞

"I am certain you are very used to compliments from many beautiful women, of status or otherwise" Ysabeau countered with eyes that long lost their warmth turning to gaze at him and seeing no hint in his expression, a man that had learned to keep himself composed under all circumstances it would seem. "You do it well, being charming. Many drip with honey but you are very precise, a mere drop as to not appal and be obvious"

"Perhaps what makes a man imposing depends on the times." She didn't know how old Armand was exactly, old enough by now, young back then but not recently made. "Everyone has their criteria when they impart the dark gift" Her maker wanted a weapon, his sickness weaponised and when he found that she controlled herself too well punishment to break her out of her resolve followed.

Why did stories of ruin always include the name of the young Wolfkiller.

She too kept quiet, she listened without looking at him as he divulged the truth of what happened, she'd take it at face value, that it simple was true because what would have been the point of deception if there was the option to not answer instead.

Armand spoke next and the room tightened, as if he spoke the right string of words for a black hole to open and vacuum out all the air. She did not gasp, she did not drop the pen she was holding but her eyes, oh her eyes screamed as if she was in pain. Because she knew the name...

Her hand trembled just a little. "Excuse me for a moment-" Ysabeau's composure was failing and she had to leave, just a few rooms away with her back pressed against the door as she inhaled and exhaled composing herself after that revelation.

There is a book in Sept-Tours with lineages and generations of the Blood and not once had she expected Armand's branch to come from his name.

She returned to the room composed. "Copies shall be of no issue, I hope that there is something that aids you. I will need a few weeks to gather the required data."

"I knew your Maker. A long time ago, before the fire claimed his Palazzo. Before or after-" she asked to place if he was made before the burning of the Palazzo....and without her knowledge asking after revealed that he survived it.

A machete was in his right hand. Armand was once again covered in blood when Ysabeau found him. They were in a morgue, Armand's little favorite place of corpses he could use to experiment and study. But this one was different. The body and the head belonged to a vampire who was not even half of Armand’s age. Armand lured his victim here before decapitating him.

Eerily calm, he moved to something that looked like a surgery table and put his machete down on the metal.

❝I educated this fool.❞ He said before he bent down, grasped the Vampire by the garments with one hand, and lifted the headless body up as if it weighed nothing. ❝He had it coming. He was warned twice, but he didn't want to listen.❞ Armand walked over to the head and grabbed it by the short, brunette strands of hair. ❝He was disrespectful toward me, toward you, and toward your family.❞

The head was placed next to the body. ❝And now.❞ he shrugged off the stained coat and let it fall to the ground. ❝I will sew him back together and lock him in there with the other corpses.❞ he pointed at the cooling chambers. ❝He will starve to death there. An appropriate punishment for not abiding by the rules and lacking basic respect.❞

it's not a question he's ever asked himself. he's immortal, there's nothing to leave behind. in life, he contemplated death regularly, but never a legacy. if he died, his life would be quick and forgotten just as quickly. if he was given the blood, he'd never face death at all.

centuries later, he still doesn't want to face death.

his coven isn't a legacy. nor is the theatre. it's just his current state, his current tool for survival. he stands in the auditorium, arms folded across his chest as he contemplates what she's asking. the rest of the coven is either below them or whiling away the hours before curfew on paris's streets. he'd invited her in with no reservation, albeit he sought privacy in the open auditorium rather than his office downstairs. after drawing the silence out a second longer, he shakes his head.

❝ if i die, my legacy is set. ❞ however they interpreted his death would be a problem he'd no longer have the power to solve. already, whatever legacy he had seemed to be determined by others, not himself. ❝ i've never thought to leave anything behind. ❞

They always have.”"Her gaze held his, unwavering. "But you are not a creature who breaks under the weight of their displeasure."

"Lestat will need that strength now. Not your fear. Not your silence. Your strength." her thumb stroked his cheekbone to comfort him.

[ COMPANY ] for muses to sit on a balcony or roof together sharing a drink/food/joint etc. 

[ HELD ]  for one muse to offer their hand out to the other to hold to comfort them.

[ REACH ] for one muse to reach out and take the other’s hand to comfort them.  

[ LACE ]  for one muse to hook their arm around the other’s while they walk. 

[ INTERTWINE ]  for one muse to offer their arm to the other while they walk. 

[ DIRECT ] for one muse to pull the other into that kind of hug where their hand rests against their head and they tuck them under their chin. 

[ SLEEP ]  one muse discovers the other napping and simply joins them. 

[ EQUAL ]  for a taller muse to pick up the other and place them sitting on a counter/table so they can be eye level. 

[ URGE ] for one muse to move their arm to be around the other’s shoulder or over the back of a chair so the one sitting next to them can scoot closer.
