Investigating the Attack
undulioffatesâ:
When the two drunks left, they waited just a moment before following not to seem suspicious. He wasnât sure theyâd lead them anywhere, but he was sure they knew about the attacks which was enough for now. The sun was setting, so he didnât know if theyâd be heading to a home or to a base, but they had to follow.
They nearly lost them in a crowds a few times, but after a few minutes they were led to the entrance of a building, one more heavily guarded than most. Azaleh didnât want to get too close, so once they saw the building he led his two friends to the side of the road to talk. âBased on the amount of guards, that building seems important,â he whispered. âSinlay, since youâre the master of ideas, any idea how we get in there?â
âOh, câmon, I canât be the only one who has any,â Sinlay said. Then, she shook her head and took a deep breath, taking a moment to think. It was clear that she would be the brains of any operation, which was ironic given that she couldnât exactly manipulate her way through any of her ideas. âWell, why donât we try our original plan?â she asked. âRemember when that guard at the beginning told us not to bother trying to sell them anything here? I think the smartest idea is to just go in there with that alibi and see what they say.â
She took a moment to look over at the building and scan the amount of guards on the outside. âIâm 100% sure thatâs where the leader is, and if not the leader, then someone equally important,â she said. âIf we just pretend to be travelers from Quan Ma, pitch our whole lumber thing... maybe we can lead into asking them a few questions about what exactly is going on here.âÂ

Azaleh first sighed when he saw Sinlayâs attempt at distracting the guard. Falling, really? She had been so smart with everything else and thatâs what she came up with. But, somehow, her plan worked. The guard ran over to her and left a space for him and Toba to sneak in. He chuckled as the two sneaked inside without anyone noticing.
When they got in, they looked around to see groups of thugs and toughs drinking at a bar and tables around the saloon. There was no way to know where they should stop, so the two split up to see if can hear anything from conversations going on. Toba went to one side and Azaleh settled in on the other. Sinlay came inside not long after them as well. He took a seat at a table by himself and listened in on the conversations all around him. Luckily, the force made it easier for him to focus on different conversations.
A few conversations were of nothing but dumb drunken ideas, but there was one that caught Azalehâs attention. He honed in on it to hear better.
âYou hear about the attack on that wuss Bonga?â
âYeah, fools didnât know a Jedi was going to be there. They didnât stand a chance.â
âNext time theyâre just gonna take âim out and not worry about stopping the Republic. As long as we have the planet, we can make the choices.â
Hearing âweâ let Azaleh know that there was in fact a big group, and the volume the chose to talk in meant it wasnât a secret, not around here at least. He signaled to Toba and the two left, meeting with Sinlay who had already walked out at this point. âI overheard a few guys who sound like theyâre part of whatever group is responsible for the attack. I say we wait out here until they come out and we follow them.â
Sinlay recognized Azaleh and Toba in the bar, giving them subtle nods as she was escorted to the front of the bar by the guard. He gave her a glass of water and she kept up the sweet act. âThank you, I really appreciate it,â she said, smiling as she took a sip. The three of them lingered for a few more minutes before sneaking out, luckily being unseen by anyone else. By the looks of it, the people at the bar were too drunk to even pay attention. She guessed that worked in their favor.Â
Once they were outside, Sinlay crossed her arms over her chest, feeling a slight breeze from the oncoming sunset. It would be dark soon, so they were going to need a place to hide after following whoever Azaleh suspected.Â
âSounds like a good idea,â Sinlay said, nodding.Â
A good twenty minutes passed before the two culprits Azaleh saw exited the bar. She glanced their way for a moment, just to get a look at their faces, before she cleared her throat in letting the two others know that it was time to start following them. âLetâs go,â she whispered.Â
They let the pair walk ahead for about a minute or so before Sinlay began to follow them. She threw her hood over her shoulder and held her knapsack close. At this distance, however, she was sure the pair wouldnât be able to spot them, especially given the sunset would give them some cover.Â

Azaleh looked towards the building Sinlay pointed out. A saloon would be a good start. There was likely to be some bad and rough people hanging out there, and if the were lucky, maybe some of them would be drunk enough to say something they werenât supposed to. While Sinlay went to go distract the guard, Azaleh and Toba stood near, but not too close, to the entrance and tried to look like they blended in. They faked a conversation while Sinlay got ready to start the distraction.
Not going to lie, Sinlay had no idea how she was going to distract the guard as she began to walk towards him. But she knew she had to come up with something right away. In the next few seconds, she remembered she had her knapsack, and its contents werenât anything suspicious. It was minor, but it would be a good start. As she passed the guard, they exchanged soft smiles, even if his was a little rougher on the edges and bordering on inappropriate. She made herself trip, purposely dropping her knapsack and letting her things spill out of it onto the dirt floor.Â
âWhoa, are you okay?â the guard asked. He glanced around for a second before bending down to help her. She was far away enough from the entrance for Toba and Azaleh to sneak in at this point.Â
âWhew,â she said, in a whistle-tone. âYeah, Iâm okay,â she said, chuckling as she scrambled to pick up her things, albeit a bit slowly. âIâm so sorry. I can be such a klutz.â
âItâs okay,â the guard said. âAre you not from here? I donât recognize you.â This seemed to alarm the guard a little, as he almost turned his head to catch the two sneaking in.Â
Sinlay panicked and yelped. âOh!â she said, falling back against the dirt road and placing the back of her hand over her forehead. âI guess Iâm not just clumsy... I donât feel too well.â She let the guard help her up, and retrieved all of her items from him too. âIâm okay for now. Thank you. Do you by any chance have any water in there?â
He turned to look back at the saloon. Thankfully, Toba and Azaleh were in by now. âIâm actually not allowed to let anyone in there whoâs not on the list,â he said. Then, a sigh. âBut I can bring you in there for water and water only.âÂ
She flashed him a grin and let him escort her inside, where she caught glimpse of Azaleh and Toba at the bar. âThank you,âÂ

When the stranger approached them, Azaleh was not just upset they were approached because he expected that at some point, but that they were right away. This let him know security was going to be tight around here. Thankfully, Azaleh was quick on his feet with things like this so responding wasnât much of an issue.
âWeâre travelers from Quan Ma,â he said, calmly. âWe work for a lumber company there and are travelling to other cities in search of business partnerships. If youâre interested, weâd love to talk logistics with you. If not, weâd like to be on our way.â
The man seemed to buy his story, and he really wasnât interested. âNo thank you,â he said, âwe donât need your business here. We donât do things like that in Yarrin anymore. I wouldnât waste your time asking around either âcause no one else will be interested either.â The man bumped shoulders with Azaleh as he walked away, in search of another poor soul to hassle.Â
âWell it looks like we know how to get people away from us,â Azaleh chuckled, âpretend to be business people.â The group walked a bit more, scanning over the city to gauge what it was like. Azaleh noticed several buildings with armed guards on the outside which seemed like good places to start the investigation.
âWe need to get into one of the guarded buildings,â he said to the two senators. âWe canât talk to them because they wonât want to speak with business people, so weâre going to need to sneak in.â
Sinlay and Toba stood back as Azaleh handled the potential altercation with the guard. When he bought Azalehâs story, Sinlay sighed in relief that her alibi worked for them. She was thankful that she got Senator Holgorâs advice to read up on the planet before visiting it a second time, especially since they would be investigating this time around. She rolled her eyes, however, when the guard bumped into Azaleh as he walked past.Â
With her arms folded across her chest, Sinlay walked alongside Toba as Azaleh led the way. The town was unlike any other they had encountered; most people resembled armed guards and there seemed to be a small number of actual townsfolk or farmers.Â
They stopped and head to the side, pretending to peruse a vendor stall of whatever crops were being sold. Sinlay scanned the buildings; they all seemed to be guarded by two people at the entrance except for one, a little farther away. âThere,â she said. âThereâs only one person there. It looks like a saloon.â She glanced up at the bottle-shaped sign reading Zakâs before turning to face the two. âIâll go over there and distract him, try to get him far enough away from the entrance for you two to sneak in. You gotta stay close so you can watch for my cue. Iâll whistle.âÂ

Azaleh laughed when Sinlay mentioned Bonga. âSinlay, if you knew Bonga like I do, youâd be surprised if he did know what was going on. The guy is good at getting people to fix elections and follow his stupid ideologies, but he cannot lead for real. If they didnât attack when we were there, they would never be found out.â Zeak Bonga was a character that, while Azaleh never wanted to deal with him, he hoped this situation could get fixed so he he could get him on his side.
As they rode on, Azaleh thought with Sinlay. âThereâs definitely a plan to overthrow,â he said. âIâm sure they thought they could take Bonga out with that surprise attack and use fear to gain power themselves. But if itâs known this is happening, I feel like this could be a large operation.â
They rode on for a few hours through open field, dense forests, and small mountain ranges. Hitaka really was a nice planet with a lot of things to offer, and the more time Azaleh spent there, the more he hoped theyâd join the Republic. After getting through all of this, they came upon a town that was full of people, much fuller than any of the small villages they had been through before. The one thing that stuck out besides this was the number of armed people. Hitaka was relatively peaceful, so seeing anyone armed in public made Azaleh know that this was surely Yarrin. He led his group over the the side of the rode where they got off their lamahkas. They tied them up but Azaleh knew they wouldnât be there when they came back.
âOkay guys,â Azaleh said, âkeep a low profile and stay close to me. These guys mean business, and we donât want to attract an attention to us. Letâs walk for a bit and see if we can find anything of note.â
Although they werenât on Hitaka on a good note, Sinlay still took the opportunity to appreciate the beauty that the planet had to offer. She saw monkey-like creatures dangling from trees, rainbow butterflies floating about, and even saw different flowers bloom at the drop of a bee on its petals. Naboo was similar in that it, too, held a vast array of forest-like biomes; but Sinlay spent most of her life in the metropolitan areas near the Palace.Â
Once they approached Yarrin, Sinlay immediately felt a shift in the atmosphere and more eyes on them. It must have looked suspicious for such a small group to roll in a large town, though she was confident that the three of them would be able to make up an alibi. âIf anyone asks who we are, weâre travelers from a faraway settlement,â she said, then racked her brain for a moment. She needed to think of a name. She thought back to whenever she scoured books for the history of Hitaka. âQuan Ma,â she said. âItâs a lumber town known for its birch trees.âÂ
Before Sinlay could speak anymore, an armored stranger approached the three of them, armed with a blaster in his holster. âGood afternoon, folks,â he said. âWhat brings you to our town of Yarrin?â

Azaleh was pleased to hear that this girl knew something, and it gave them a lead to start the investigation. If she knew something, it was probably something a lot of people knew about, except Zeak Bonga apparently. Yarrin was a close city, so he didnât think they were going to need to ask around where they were and the best plan was probably to head straight there and see what they could find as soon as they got directions from someone. âYouâve been a great help,â Azaleh said as he bowed to the girl. âWe are going to be on our way, but like Senator Alycand said, we will return.â The group headed out of the store and mounted their lamahkas.Â
They rode for a moment until they saw someone on the road. âExcuse me sir,â Azaleh said from atop his beast, âwe were looking for directions to a town called Yarrin.â
The man looked at them with a funny face. âYouâre pretty brave to wanna go there,â he said. âThat place is full of scum, the worst of the worst on HItaka. If you still wanna go, itâs going to be that way, but youâre gonna wanna be paying close attention to alls around you so you donât get ransacked or killed.â The warning they were given made Azaleh think that there was definitely some shady things going down in Yarrin, so he thanked the man before leading the three off in the direction the man instructed.
Riding away from the man and towards Yarrin, Sinlay couldnât help but think out loud. âSo, a town full of scums wants to separate from the palace and work independently,â she said. âAnd Amiver even said they were hoping to start a colony of their own. I wonder if they have bigger plans to overthrow Bongaâs rule?â She shook her head and let out a chuckle as they rode on. âItâs ironic that that man holds all the power over the planet and yet knows almost nothing about it. How could they rebel right under the nose of the government here?âÂ

The clothes were cheap, something expected of an Outer Rim planet, not that it was an issue anyway. They looked simple and just like the clothes others they had seen on the planet were wearing, and thatâs all that mattered to Azaleh. After Sinlay came back, he went and threw on the tunic brought out for him. It fit perfectly, and Azaleh walked back out to the main floor of the shop.
âWe want to thank you so much for the help,â he said, handing the girl the money. âI donât trust anyone else on this planet would help a Jedi and Republican senators.â He looked around the shop for a moment, debating whether or not to ask the girl any questions. She was young and may not hear all of the adult talk, but she was at the palace so she mustâve had some knowledge of what happen on her home planet. He eventually decided it was worth a shot. âBy the way, Amiver,â he said, walking back up to her, âthe attack at the palace, is there anything you can tell us about those rebels who attacked? Is that a thing here? Any group you know about?â
Amiver smiled at the Jedi and pocketed the money. âNot everyone is against joining the Republic here,â she said. At only thirteen years old, she knew some things, but not enough to help them. âUnfortunately, I donât know much. But my father is a rice farmer and he sometimes came home telling us about a group wanting to work independently from the palace and start their own colony,â she said. âI believe he said they were from a few towns away from the inner city... in a town called Yarrin. You might want to go down to the marketplace and ask around. Sometimes, they have merchants coming from all over. One might be able to show you the way.â
Sinlay listened, visibly impressed at the young girl. âYarrin,â she echoed with a nod. âWell, we appreciate your hospitality, Amiver. Take this, so you know weâre coming back,â she said, pulling off her necklace and placing it in the young girlâs hand. It was an opal, teardrop pendant from Naboo. âHopefully, when we return, we can formally thank your parents as well for your respect and kindness.â Then, she glanced at Azaleh and Toba. âLetâs go back to the lamahkas and head to the inner city.â

When they arrived at the textile shop, Azaleh jumped off his animal and tied it up next to Sinlayâs. The string of huts they were at were not near anything else, so he didnât feel as much of a need to hide. But still, he tucked his lightsaber underneath his clothes as to not alert anyway who might see. He followed the girl Sinlay had met into the shop. They walked in and he looked around at the textiles in the shop. They werenât much, but theyâd make them blend in as they fit the style of the planet.
âIâm sure you know who we are, having met us before,â he said to the young girl. âMy hope is that your mother would be willing to help us create some disguises. Weâre here to investigate the attack that happened at the palace looking for a possible larger group responsible, and we need to blend in. Where is your mother at?â Azaleh didnât want to rush this, but getting it done quickly so they could get started immediately was preferred. He didnât want any time wasted, especially if there was a dangerous terrorist group at large. âWe can pay whatever is needed.â
âSheâs out on the rice farm today, so Iâm in charge of the shop,â Amiver explained. âBut Iâm happy to help you with anything you need. Here, give me a few moments and Iâll have some outfits ready for you all. And, if you would like, we can stow away your clothes here.âÂ
Sinlay nodded. âThatâs a great idea, Amiver. Thank you.â
With that, the young girl went into the back of the shop to hunt for some clothing for the group. A few minutes passed until she returned, holding a pile of clothes on hangers. They were simple tunics and pants made for the common people of Hitaka, nothing too elegant or flashy to catch unwanted attention. She distributed an outfit to each Senator and the Jedi. âThere are two changing quarters in the back. Sir Azaleh, it will just be 100 coins for it all, if thatâs okay.â
âAlright, Iâll go first with Senator Toba if you donât mind,â Sinlay said. âIn case anything goes wrong, Azaleh. Thank you.â She retrieved her clothing and went into the back with Toba to change. It was a quick shift; she removed Azalehâs robe and changed into the sleeveless tunic and pants, which she rolled up given the heat of the day. She slid her boots back on, pulled her hair into a rough bun and head outside to switch with Azaleh. âYour turn.â

There went Sinlay again with an idea. Newbies usually were shy at first, but she wasted no time becoming part of the Republic. The textile shop would be good, so long as they would be able to turn them into good disguises. âWe still should try and cover up a little while we ride them, so maybe you could wear my robe cover over your clothes,â Azaleh said, looking out into the town. âWe also have to GET some lamahkas, and I think I can handle that.â Azaleh walked out into town after handing Sinlay his robe, and he walked up to a farmer with a few lamahkas.
Azaleh approached the farmer and used a Jedi mindtrick to get him to the three of them lamahkas to ride. A simple wave of his hand later and Azaleh was walking back along with the three animals. It was a little unethical, but it was certainly for the greater good. âAlright Sinlay,â he said smiling, proud of his trick, as he hopped up onto the lamahka, âShow us where that shop is.â
Sinlay retrieved Azalehâs robe from him and nodded. âOkay, boss, weâll be right here,â she said with a soft chuckle as she removed her knapsack and wrapped the robe around her. She pulled her belt over it to cinch her waist and make it so it wasnât dragging on the floor, given he was taller and larger than her. Once it was on and adjusted, she watched as Azaleh pulled mind tricks on the nearby farmer to borrow his lamahkas from him. She couldnât help but roll her eyes at the Jediâs clever way of attaining transportation.Â
Once Azaleh made it over to Sinlay and Toba, she took hold of one of the lamahkaâs leads and pulled herself up on it. It felt like riding a small elephant, but the lamahkas were surprisingly tame and friendly to strangers. âYoknafâs gonna love to hear about this,â she said. âThis way.âÂ
-Â
About ten minutes later on the lamahkas, they approached a small string of huts on the outskirts of the palace. Just like that servant described, there were a few residences and a few stalls for merchant goods. One particular stall had simple farmerâs clothes and gear hanging from it. âThere it is,â she said, pointing it out. âLetâs tie our lamahkas here.âÂ
She hopped down from her lamahka and tied him up, petting him briefly before taking a deep breath and getting ready to head towards the stall. As she led, the same servant from Bongaâs palace stopped her. It was a teenage girl named Amiver Balsgun.Â
âMy lady,â she said, bowing in front of Sinlay then addressing Azaleh and Toba. âAre you here for my motherâs textiles? Iâll show you the way.â
âYes, Amiver. We are. Thank you,â Sinlay smiled softly, then followed after the young girl.Â

@daughtersofhopeâ
A few days following the attack on Hitaka, the Jedi Council and senate had come to a decision about what they were to do. Azaleh and Sinlay both a played a vocal role in the decision, having been there, and Azaleh was assigned the Jedi leader for an investigation and policing of the planet. Because in the Old Republic many thought the Jedi had become generals more so than keepers of the peace, Azaleh negotiated that Sinlay should be the leader of the mission with Azaleh there as a protector. The senate was all for the idea, but because she was too new to be leading on her own, despite the promise she had shown to this point, Senator Koba Tola of Duro was assigned as a co-leader.
After spending a couple more days getting everything in order, the team set off for Hitaka once more, this time patrolling and investigating instead of discussing politics. They had no idea what to look for, since they didnât know if the group of rebels attackers acted alone or if they were part of a larger group. Noralli and the other rebel captured were still being questioned, and neither had given the senate anything to work with. It would be up to the Jedi and the senators to see what they could find out.
When the crew landed, Azaleh met up with the two senators at the entrance of the hanger to discuss the plan of attack. âWe need to speak to people around the planet to see what the public knows,â Azaleh said. âIâm thinking we try to disguise ourselves to look less, well, less-Jedi and less-senator so people arenât suspicious of us. Especially if the citizens are all in on it, they wonât want to tell outsiders whatâs happening.â
After the attack on Hitaka, Sinlay was able to speak with Senator Holgor about keeping the fort down on Naboo for a few days alongside the Queen as she had been appointed to a mission. The last thing she wanted to do as a new Senator was leave her post, but both the Queen and Jedi Master Rey encouraged her to assist Azaleh on the trip. And given that she witnessed everything that happened on Hitaka many days ago, she would be more familiar with the planet than anyone else.Â
Sinlay and Senator Koba Tola of Duro took one of Nabooâs ships together, and they landed at the meeting point right in the nick of time on Hitaka. She and Tola head to the entrance of Azalehâs ship, before they all faced each other and began to strategize their plan for investigation. Sinlay stood with her arms folded out of habit, listening and nodding. âThatâs a good idea,â she said. âOne of Bongaâs servants told me her family owns a textile shop on the outskirts of the palace. Itâs not too far, but...â She bit her lip in thought. How would they get there discreetly?Â
In the distance, Sinlay saw a farmer riding a larger species of lamahka. She lifted her brow and got an idea before turning back to Azaleh and Tola. âHow about we take a couple of lamahkas in? It wonât be suspicious, and it makes us seem like travelers from another village if weâre going to be talking to the different farmers.â
Dangerous Negotiations
undulioffatesâ:
âIf I can add anything,âAzaleh started before heading out, âI recommend we get other planets of the Republic to agree to send extra troops to Hitaka to give Bonga and the rest of palace protection. Not only would this ensure their safety from other attacks, but it could help persuade Bonga to join the Republic, something we havenât yet convinced him to do. We were attacked just as he seemed convinced.â
âI will take this idea into consideration, as will the senate,â Rey said. Azaleh nodded and left the room with Sinlay. Before they split up, Azaleh took Sinlay to the side to speak. âGreat job out there senator,â Azaleh said. âYou held your own out there better than any senator Iâve scene, Iâm glad I had you out there. Youâre my go-to gal for these kinds of things now, I hope you know that.â Azaleh said goodbye and the two went to their quarters.
Now that she had some breathing space, Sinlay set herself to the side with Azaleh to touch base. She nodded and gave him a soft smile, not wanting to get too excited given the serious matters at hand. âWell, whatever happened today definitely wasnât in the job description,â she joked with a chuckle, âbut Iâm glad everyone on our side is safe. Thank you for helping out, too.â She took a deep breath and then looked to the side, where a servant was waiting to show her her room for the evening. âGoodnight, Azaleh.âÂ
The two went separate ways to turn in for the night.Â
Dangerous Negotiations
undulioffatesâ:
Sinlay raised a great point. Nine attacked them today, but there was likely to be more like them on the planet. This was an issue that had to be brought up to the senate. âFor right now, Sinlay,â he said to the senator, âwe need to worry about getting these guys back to the senate. When we get back, we will talk to them and the Jedi Council about what can be done.â
Azaleh led Noralli back to where the other rebel was being kept. After they had both rebels in their possession, they made their way back to the ship, with Zeak Bonga tagging along for his own safety. For as tough as he talked, he was quite the coward, something Azaleh let him know. âThereâs no way you can lead this people if you react like that,â he said to him as they walked. âYouâre lucky we were the only ones here to see it or no one would follow you.â
-
They arrived at the ship and took off back towards Coruscant. They made the trip and upon landing at the hanger, they immediately took off towards the senate, who Azaleh had informed on the ship about what had happened. They made their way into the senate room where all of the senators and the Jedi Council stood waiting to see the criminals that they had captured on Hitaka.
âMaster Skywalker,â Azaleh said, addressing the leader, âWe captured these two rebels, the only survivors from the opposing side in an attack on us and Hitakan leader Zeak Bonga.â
It was a good thing that Azaleh said something to Bonga first. Otherwise, Sinlay wouldnât have been as nice. Her natural instinct was to protect Bonga and the unarmed servants and crew, but she had no idea that Bonga wouldnât have been more of a leader in a situation like that. She shook her head at Bonga, who looked at her for some kind of back up against Azaleh.Â
âWeâre sorry for the loss of your people,â she said. âBut I agree with Azaleh. Leadership isnât just an appearance or an act. Itâs a way of living.â
Bonga nodded in shame, then spent the rest of the trip to Coruscant in silence as he stared out of the window of the ship.Â
-
At Coruscant, Sinlay was relieved to see Rey and the others. They were quick to take Bonga and some of the injured crew into medic quarters, seeing as Sinlay could only work with what she had in her knapsack. Two members of the crew brought Noralli and a single remaining rebel forward toward Rey.Â
âWell, we donât know if theyâre the only survivors,â Sinlay pointed out. âBonga mentioned that there was entire group of farmers who opposed his leadership. They must have heard that the Senate was visiting and thought it was a perfect time to overtake him.âÂ
Rey took a deep breath before addressing Azaleh and Sinlay. âAzaleh, Sinlay,â she began, âThank you for doing what you could to protect the people of Hitaka. Please rest here for another day. Iâll send others to investigate the group of farmers.âÂ
Although Sinlay wanted to be a part of the investigation group, she remembered she was only a member of the Senate and she had more duties to attend to in Naboo. Still, she wasnât sure how she would be able to rest while innocent people on Hitaka were at risk.Â
âVery well,â Sinlay responded. âPlease donât hesitate to let me know if thereâs anything I can do for you.â
