Ratonhnhaké:ton and how relevant he is to mass media: possibly one of the most important male protags thus far

Ratonhnhaké:ton, known by his adopted name Connor Kenway, is possibly one of mass media’s and 3rd gen gaming’s most important male protagonists thus far—he subverts common tropes glorifying hypermasculinity, the white savior complex and imperialism through his narrative. Ratonhnhaké:ton is a scarce and primary example of visible representation of both the Native American and biracial community, as his ethnicity is not only relevant to his narrative but also not vilified or demeaned: through Ratonhnhaké:ton’s narrative, the Mohawk peoples are instead humanized.

While the quality of AC3’s narrative can be debated, from a sociopolitical perspective, it’s important. Incredibly so. Rarely do you see a biracial, Mohawk protagonist who not only combats imperialism but isn’t reduced to a walking and problematic stereotype of some sort. Ratonhnhaké:ton is meant to be perceived as human and sympathetic at that to the player.

I’m a bit upset people call him Avdol. It’s not a name that exists in Arabic, and even less Abdul on its own. You can’t just be named Abdul when you are Egyptian and born there and raised there. I know the name exists, but not as an Arab living in the Arabic world, and I’ll tell you why. It’s gotta be Muhammed Abdul-Something "Abdul" comes from the arabic "عبد" "Abdu" which means Servant (Of). The "L" means "The". So his name can’t just be Muhammed Servant-Of-The. Since he is named after the prophet, I’d say he’s Muhammed Abdallah, which is a very common name and means “Muhammed Servant Of God” Hirohiko Araki didn’t quite do his research there! So, the more you know. tl;dr arab people are underrepresented and misrepresented but I love Muhammed he is cute as fuck

Amazonian Leaf-footed Bug (Diactor bilenatus)

…A species of leaf-footed bug that occurs throughout South America, parts of Central America, and some Caribbean Islands. Like all coreids D. bilenatus is a herbivore and likely feeds on a wide variety of plant species. When threatened it probably is able to release a unpleasant odor to deter potential predators, like other coreids.
