Bilbo made it back home safely but he wasn't really home, the place that he opened the door to. It was not his home, his home was in a tomb, forever buried.
He tried to get back to living his life, but he couldn't. Everything seems so foreign to him but not at the same time. All his heart was yearning for was the person he could never hold ever again. All he wanted was to go back in time and change things, to save Thorin but he couldn't and he knew that.
All he ever sees his Thorin, he hears his voice in the darkness of night and he can still smell him around him. It was killing him, the what ifs starts to circle around his mind as well. Like a nightmare that he can't wake from. He wanted, no he needed Thorin. Thorin would fix his mind.
But all he got was his stupid armchair, his books and memories. He started to lock himself away, from people and from himself. He even stopped eating as well. He felt guilty for living, he felt like he should be the one dead and Thorin would be the one alive. He hated himself for getting knocked out on that mountain.
Then it happened, a saving grace appeared just outside of Bilbo Baggins front door. The knock was quiet but loud enough for Bilbo to hear it. "Oh who is it now?" He asked himself, as he opened up the door. A young girl with Raven black hair and dark baby blues staring up at him. "Oh hello little one." He said, looking down at the little girl.
"Hullo, I'm Thorina. A wizard said that I can find a hobbit here that goes by the name Bilbo Boggins." The young girl said, looking up at Bilbo. Bilbo's heart stopped for a second when he heard her name. "Yes that's me, come in." He said, stepping aside to let the young girl come in.
"May I ask where you are coming from?" Bilbo asked, as he walked into the kitchen to start the kennel. "I'm from Erebor, my uncle was going to be king." She tells Bilbo, as she follows him to the kitchen and takes a seat at the dining table. Bilbo stopped what he was doing and froze. "I am also named after him, my mother Dìs gave me his name because she told me he was a hero for everyone." Thorina added.
Bilbo swallowed back tears as he went back to what he was doing. "Thorin was the best, he was a hero." Bilbo found himself to say to Thorin's niece. "Gandalf told me, that you both were close. Do you have any stories about my uncle. My mother doesn't talk about him or my brothers." She tells him, as her eyes light up.
"Oh I have plenty." Bilbo ended up talking about Thorin with Thorina, smiling and laughing as he told her about Thorin being in a barrel. "Oh he hated that barrel, he hated every second of it." Bilbo laughed and she laughed as well. Oh how she had the same exact laugh as her uncle.
Thorina stayed with Bilbo, keeping him company. Saving both of them at the same time. She even moved into her own shire house that one of Bilbo's cousins made for her. She was Bilbo's saving grace but Bilbo has no idea how much of a saving grace he is to her as well.
