I finally finished the Witcher series fanart with all the plant/flower symbolism I ended up adding most of the things y’all requested and honestly…I had so much fun with this series.
I was really tempted to add another Ciri piece BUT hear me out — I kinda want to keep this series going once The Witcher 4 comes out + whatever DLCs we get. And then I can add all the new characters too…
So for now, here’s the full series + all the pairs together.
If you told me that the Witcher 3 was going to get a new expansion DLC 12 years after the core game was released, I would have laughed in your face AND YET
THE WITCHER DLC OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED LET'S GOOOOOOO
God I was so excited after the leaks, and it's so great to hear it's actually happening 🔥 What a perfect opportunity to share the two designs I did recently! (game/book Geralt since I've got a soft spot for both)
The Witcher 3 - NEW Expansion coming in 2027 - Songs of the Past - CD PROJEKT RED - Kazuliski
CD PROJEKT RED today announced that a third expansion to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, one of the most critically acclaimed and best-selling role-playing games of all time, is coming next year.
Snapshot
Songs of the Past is a third expansion coming to The Witcher 3
It will launch in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC
CD PROJEKT RED is co-developing Songs of the Past with Fool’s Theory
Songs of the Past will return players to the role of legendary monster slayer Geralt of Rivia for a brand new adventure when it launches in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
CD PROJEKT RED is co-developing the expansion with Fool’s Theory, a team comprising industry veterans who worked on The Witcher 3. More details on Songs of the Past will be released in late summer 2026.
The Witcher 3 has sold more than 60 million copies since its release in 2015 and is the winner of more than 250 Game of the Year awards and 1,000 industry awards. It lets players explore a dark fantasy open world as witcher Geralt of Rivia as he takes on the most important contract of his life: saving his daughter Ciri.
first (slightly insane) predictions on ‘songs of the past’:
think this knocks back my assumed release window for tw4 by another year or so, because of marketing if nothing else
that SAID, i would be very surprised if this wasn’t a bridge of sorts between tw3 and tw4, even if we the players won’t know in what ways until tw4 releases
as others have probably pointed out, ‘songs’ in the title suggests potentially something around dandelion (note the title card being purple!) or priscilla, maybe taking a similar role to regis in blood and wine. dandelion is also a fan favourite character thanks to netflix, so from a marketing perspective it would make sense.
HOWEVER that is not a given, and it’s just as likely we’ll have a new character or a book character to go play around with, although i do think a bard would still fit because…
the more relevant part of the title is ‘of the past’. now, taken alone, this suggests a story tie to EITHER a) the books, b) the ancient parts of the lore, c) secret third option or d) secret fourth option
b would be the most straightforward, but is also in my opinion the least likely. it may be an element of the story, but if it is this, then we’re not going to be able to tell any more from the title alone. sorry. might tie into option d, though, so keep reading.
option a is tied to the bard prediction for obvious reasons (though the two are by no means the same - of everything in this post, the note about dandelion/priscilla is the most speculative and also not one i think will happen, see below) but stands on it’s own as i think the thing most people have assumed upon seeing the title.
it would also make sense as a bridge to tw4, given as you can brush past the books regarding geralt’s adventures but the same is nawt really true for my girl ciri. there’s a lot of background story and lore knowledge from the books that could easily spin off adventures for geralt.
we know for a fact there was a planned plotline for tw3 regarding false ciri that got scrapped pretty early in development. coming back to it, even a little, would do some good work of untangling the lore mess that is emyhr’s actions in tw3, and would set the stage for tw4. i think it’s kinda unlikely given how the dlcs haven’t really interacted with the main plot yet, but it wouldn’t be surprising.
c is our secret third option, which is: iorveth, witch hunters, and the catriona plague. this is one of the things people have been winging about since before tw3 even released, and even now there remains some huge unfulfilled setups in tw3’s story. got no inherent tie to the title, but it’s not like one could guess hearts of stone’s plot from that tagline soooo. yeah.
this is, kinda, both the least likely option and the one i want the most. i think they’ve patchworked up their missing content holes just slightly too well for this to work anymore, but the holes are plainly still there.
that SAID, regardless of which of these options it is, i think iorveth is another great candidate for regis-like anchor character. all of the options i’ve set out here relate back to the elves in some way, and it would make game fans extremely happy to have our favourite angsty elf boi back.
alright secret fourth option d time! this is my actual prediction and it’s kinda insane so go with me here. prophecies.
the only thing we know about this dlc for sure is it’s title, and ‘songs of the past’ taken just as a descriptor kinda describes, well, a prophecy. they are literally songs of the past.
neither of tw3’s dlcs have tied all that closely to either the books or the game’s main story. it’s extremely likely that this one won’t either (and frankly most of everything i’ve talked about has been kinda baseless, this is all for fun and i’m sure that i’ll be wrong about almost everything).
however, prophecies and fortune telling are both an important part of the lore and one not all that thoroughly explored. there’s loads of room to play. both dlcs have started with innocent monster contracts that spiral. having a theme for the dlc that easily starts as a regular geralt job is almost a given, and this really works for that.
for intensely obvious reasons, some story around prophecies would also make a lot of sense as a covert tie in to tw4 stuff.
do i think i’m right about any of this? no, not really. if a single specific prediction in this post turns out to be correct then it will be entirely by chance. BUT speculation is fun so shaddup
will i make another post like this explaining why i’m wrong and making more stupid predictions as soon as we get more news? you bet your ass i will.
anyway so i didn’t believe the leaks atall and am happily eating my hat

Paired him with Jaskier because I couldn’t not.
Only one character left and then this witcher series is doneee.
Also rest in peace Alexander Morton, thank you for bringing Zoltan to life!

I know it's just video game convivence that you can just whistle for Roach right after your boat crash. But the thought of Geralt being bitch slapped by the ocean onto Skellige shores, while Roach just power hoof paddles from the wreckage and waits patiently for her lazy Witcher companion to wake up is very funny to me.
