You always knew the attraction you felt for him was strange, almost slimy and perverse, and as much as Daeron initially tried to hide his deadly burden from you, you didn't seem to be alienated or disgusted by it, and perhaps that was precisely what created the relationship you have today.
The love Daeron gives makes you feel like a moth drawn to the light, a light that is at times warm and familiar but at the same time dim and cold, and perhaps that's precisely what you like about him.
Perhaps you liked chasing his warmth because it made you feel almost safe, in those rare moments when you could connect with his soul.
But as similar as you and Daeron were, there was always something that kept you apart, something that made you fight, something that has always been familiar to you.
This has always been part of your childhood and youth, a pain that continued to follow you even if you thought you'd rid yourself of it.
You recognize its memories in everything Daeron does when he wants to make you feel bad: the heavy alcohol breath and the smell of tobacco on his lips, the punishing silences, the euphoric nights spent together chasing something both of you were missing, moments when your bodies almost seemed to merge, only to disappear at the first light of dawn.
You knew his problems, you'd heard the rumors swirling around him, but you weren't interested because you've always been looking for someone more messed up than yourself, someone who could perhaps make sense of your inner demons.
Maybe you just want to prove you can heal, and perhaps reliving a familiar situation can soon bring about the breakthrough you've always sought, so you can prove to everyone that you can move forward.
Too bad that every time your bodies seemed to merge, that when he repeated the same sweet nothings in your ear, held your hand while he was deep inside you, maybe you weren't hurting so bad, maybe being miserable together wasn't such a scary idea and that you were fine just the way you were.
