"Who are the Sirens? We are ex-gladiators and warriors looking to rest away from the glory of battle. We are runaways needing a family and a safe place to sleep. We are treasure hunters that seek the hidden places of the world. We are pirates and mercenaries making a living and collecting gil. A better question would be what we are, and that is something I can answer in a single word. Freedom."
[Welcome to the Tumblr home of the Siren's Bounty! Here you will find all manner of things like screenshots taken by our members. written stories about events or entries into logs from the library, and updates on our FC's storylines. This seems to be a rampant issue in the RPC. And it is extremely draining for your partners if your muse and your narration do nothing else but react to your partner's post. Let me explain through an example:
"Hello! What are you doing?"
"I'm birdwatching."
The partner can have their muse answer with "Nice. Bye." and just end the thread, or ask a different question to try and keep the thread going. You leave it up to your partner to maintain an engaging interaction and it also gives an air of lackluster. Just a reaction is often not much for the other muse to react to in turn.
Instead of just replying a question, throw the ball back at your partner's muse, keep the interaction interesting for both. Maybe half of your reply being reaction, the other half new things for the other muse to react to.
"I'm birdwatching. Do you want to join me?"
That way, the other muse can either join or decline and maybe suggest an alternate activity for them to do. It's already more engaging and you signalize your partner that you are interested. You can always take it a step further, too.
"I'm birdwatching. There is this rare bird in this area. Check it out!" The muse shows the other muse a picture of the rare bird. "Do you want to join me? I could need an extra pair of eyes."
It's just like that in normal conversations. Yes, I know first-hand that it can be exhausting to ask a friend questions back and maintain a conversation, but having your friend/partner do all the legwork is even more exhausting for them and selfish from you, to be honest.
Rp is a two-way street, just like conversations. Treat your partners with respect and give back what they give you. Literally. Make it a rule that if your partner gives you nothing to work with repeatedly, then have your muse just walk out on them. Don't burn yourself out on people not valuing your time and work.
The symbology of the Convocation of Fourteen is just... one of my favorite details in ffxiv. And yeah, I know they have zodiac signs because Final Fantasy Tactics had zodiac signs and FF12 had zodiac signs, but 14's spin on them is inspired, and I don't think that gets enough appreciation.
Each of the Ascians is characterized to at least superficially match their sign. Emet-Selch seems like a Gemini, seemingly on both sides of every issue. Fandaniel seems like a Leo who wants to be the center of attention. Lahabrea, The Creator, seems like an artsy Pisces... just...y'know, a horrible one.
And it's not as if "terrible, messed-up version of Zodiac symbol" is new here. Tactics definitely had that already. The thing ffxiv adds to the trope is the presence of the Sun.
Azem's symbol being the sun and not a constellation tells us exactly what their role in the Convocation was supposed to be. The sun's path through the constellations is what gives all those signs their meanings. You can't be a Gemini unless the sun is in Gemini. The sun's passage through the zodiac is supposed to illuminate the best way forward. This is why Emet-Selch calls them both "Shepherd to the stars in the dark," and "Counsellor to the star's people." They're meant to inspire people to become their best selves. This is inadvertently what WoL does in numerous places and times across the game, (and one of the ancients in Elpis even comments on it) because apparently repeatedly dying at the hands of their coworkers and friends for eons did not get them out of having to do their job.
When the sun protested their unspeakbly terrible plan, they went all in on their hubris by casting it down forever. They never replaced Azem. They don't even want to remember they ever had a sun. They don't have the light that illuminates their best selves, their better future. So they can't find it anymore. They don't know how to be themselves anymore, in Azem's absence. In Elidibus' case, literally. He is so desperate for the guiding star he can't even remember having, that he constantly, instinctively, seeks out Azem in different forms. Wearing Ardbert's corpse, and wandering up to WoL for awkward chats, and looking back to the heroes of the past who were definitely Azem shards.
The sun, torn from the heavens, leads to the maker's ruin.
FFXIV resources I take for granted but apparently a lot of people don’t know exist

Garland Tools | Bell: Lists all special gathering nodes, where to find them, what time they’re up, what level you need to be at, with customizable notifications
Teamcraft: hub for various crafting tools including rotation planner, crafting checklists, crafting commissions, and more. Best for social crafting.
Eorzea Collection: Glamour hub, lists armor sets and has a gallery of user submitted glams
FFXIV Gardening: Database of seeds, cross breeding pairs, and a planner for your garden.
FFXIV Collect: create an account and manage your collections of mounts, orchestrion rolls, minions, and more.

Gillionaire Girls: Crafting Levelling guides and Macro resources for DoH
Lulus Chocobo Color Calculator: creates a list of feeds to dye your chocobo new colors.
Sightseeing Log Helper: simple tracker to complete the early sightseeing logs, which are kind of bullshit.
Howdy!
While I rarely post here, I wanted to share a project of mine: a collection of all of the Shetona lore found in canon including language and names, and real-life speculative cultural and geographical inspirations for them, presented by an Indigenous XIV RPer!
Please enjoy!!
Personally made by myself, this is a document listing out the lore of Dalmasca, general key notes and a history of the region (not including the Legend of Ivalice).
This can be used as a general writing and roleplay resource, due to the scattered nature of the kingdom's lore as well as missing details not carried over from the original FFXII source.
If any additions are made or changes, I will reblog this post with information on what has been changed.

your teens are for learning how to rp and your twenties are for the trial and error of rping around a rotating door of some of the most bugfuck unstable people you have ever met and your thirties are for finding contentment rping with somewhere between three and ten people who all came out of it stronger together 🙏
still very angry at writing-prompt-s lol. actually i'm angry at that entire circlejerk going around trying to convince everyone that the palestinians on tumblr are all bots but writing-prompt-s is someone who has a big presence on this site and who knows what kind of damage they're causing by enabling this rhetoric that real ass people trying to survive a genocide are bots trying to scam you. idk i know this isn't productive but i'm feeling really petty right now and i really wanna see them get destroyed for this. cancel writing-prompt-s we as a collective deserve a writing prompt based blog that's run by someone who actually cares about people dying
trust when i say that i won't forget this either. even if tumblr as a whole moves on and forgets that at one point there were people convincing you that all these palestinians asking for money are actually scammers i will for sure be reminding all of you of these idiots. even if writing-prompt-s survives this and is still able to run their dumbass blog after this dies down i personally will make sure people know about what they've done
writing-prompt-s has deleted the post. No apology, not even a half-assed acknowledgement that maybe they were in the wrong. I hope they're profoundly ashamed and embarrassed, and sure, when you've done something shameful you might want it to just go away.
But you don't get to join in a racist witch hunt and then just pretend it never happened.
Nobody with any decency should interact with them ever again, until and unless they make a meaningful effort to repair what they did.
HAH i fully expected that they'd do that but their post has been documented on the wayback machine so at least there's some record of it having happened:
I am Prompt Guy and you are the protagonist. Let's explore the multiverse together.
the post where they directly respond to an ask for help by calling the asker a bot and accusing @/90-ghost of being untrustworthy is like the third post on this page, so you need to scroll a little bit to see it. but for the sake of accessibility here are direct screenshots of what they said:
As of 03/16, I have added the following communities (in no particular order) to Sea's Community Compendium:
Au Ra Skin and Scale Care Guide — a headcanon/lore post surrounding au ra skin and scale care. Created by @blutkatze on Tumblr.
Dalton Family Estate — a family-owned employment company in Ul'dah.
The Honeystone — An Ala Mhigan themed establishment maintained by @magnificent-bee.
Teatime — a med-heavy roleplay Free Company hosting Teatime at Shroudrose Teahouse @tea-ffxiv.
I've done a lot of boosting for this lately but, just to reiterate, not only can you submit communities now via my ask box or google form, but you can also post your communities via my Discord at SEAFLOOR! If you're community leader doesn't utilise Tumblr, please let them know they can get in contact with me via that method.
Existing Compendium members can also post their communities in the Discord's affiliate section! It isn't mandatory, but the offer is there. ✨
My only major stipulation is that anyone joining the server MUST be over the age of twenty-one. If you're younger, please utilise the existing submission methods. It's nothing personal, I just don't want minors in my space.
I am also beginning to DM community leaders/resource owners for permission to be featured in the Compendium. "I'm not sure if my things count/are good enough," you say? Didn't ask, it is, shut up; get loved, nerds. This is predominately for communities I see via Tumblr, as I don't have the time to canvas multiple Discords and I'm not thrilled about messaging people I'm not mutuals with out of the blue. Again, please drop a line to the leaders of your community if you think they might want to be featured, especially if they're not on Tumblr.
There is never any pressure to be a part of the document and there's no hard feelings if you decline.
That's all from me (I said, like a liar), have a great day!
Whenever people talk about funny lore facts about ffxiv, it's always the "guns are named that because they're blade-less gunblades" thing, so let's share some more fun facts about this crazy-ass setting:
-The word "War" is derived from a demonym, just like "Vandalize" comes from the vandal people that sacked rome. There was a tribe called the Warriors who were so good at fighting that the word for someone who fights good came from their name, and "having a really big fight" was named after that.
-The people of Eorzea use chocobos instead of horses because horses aren't native to the continent.
--Unicorns were, but they were hunted to extinction.
-The reason ffxiv uses a different spell naming convention than other final fantasy games ("Fire II" instead of "Fira" for example) is that they used to use the old system, but the amdapori ruling council got tired of having to come up with new names whenever someone invents a more powerful version of a spell, so they passed a law enforcing a numerical system instead.
-The Viera have no sexual dimorphism until puberty, and treat males not as a different sex or gender, but basically as divinely appointed super soldiers.
-Each of the Seeker tribes actually have a totem animal, usually one that shares the first letter with that tribe. For example the Y are the Jaguar tribe, and the G are the Gryhpon tribe. There are also a Dodo tribe (D) and a Marmot tribe (M).
-Certain Keeper tribe names are said to have originated in the first astral era, meaning there are keepers out there with family histories stretching back over 10.000 years.
-Dunesfolk used to be nomadic, and built their homes on the backs of adamantoises.
I wrote a nearly 200 page document on fishing in FFXIV and published it for free online. (Ok, it's a google doc, so not that fancy).
You'll find guides on mechanics, skills, every Legendary Fish, and now every big fish and glioaether fish added in Endwalker.
I'll be updating it over time to make sure it remains a relevant resource. These are just some pages from the book. You can access the link here.
A Fisher's Guide to Eorzea is a continually updated document on catching notable fish in FFXIV. It's maintained by Fruity Snacks.
