"Why would you need to be on PrEP?" Robby asked slowly, suddenly feeling like he was floating outside his body, watching this scene from a distance. Jack looked at him obviously. "'Cause I'm planning on getting railed and it's the responsible thing to do," he said, like this should be no surprise at all rather than Jack coming out to him. At Robby's silence, Jack narrowed his eyes. "Got a problem with that?" Robby blinked, slamming back into his body, aware of his elevated heart rate, the sweat prickling along his lower back and at the backs of his knees, making his dress slacks clammy. "Nope," he said, because he didn't. He didn't. He just...hadn't known, that was all.
Since launching at the start of 2025, “The Pitt” has emerged as more than just a hyperrealistic depiction of an embattled American emergency department. Using its hospital setting as a social microcosm, HBO Max’s Emmy-winning juggernaut has explored various systemic issues — including the misogyny that women of color face in the workplace.
Jack finds himself sleeping in Robby's bed.
Jack is drinking coffee at 10pm on a Thursday when Robby calls.
“I don’t need a fucking script, Huckleberry!” Trinity says, furious. “I can ask a girl out, jesus.” “I mean, that’s weird,” Whitaker says. “Because you haven’t. Like, that’s what this entire conversation is about.”
The ER is short-staffed thanks to a flu outbreak. Jack rises to the occasion.
Ellis made an amused noise, drawing Robby's attention. "You know, Dana's enlisted everyone in finding a kinship foster." "Don't look at me," Robby said instantly, just like he'd said to Dana, an actual jolt of horror pitching his gut at the idea. Ellis went entirely innocent. "What I'm seeing is you looking mighty comfortable over there. And you got nothing but time."
Robby is sitting in the visitor's armchair, staring down at Baby Jane Doe in his arms with an expression on his face that Dana's seen plenty of times.
Parker had just gotten the patient's CT results when Toomarian pulled up short by central and stuttered out, "So, um, is it possible that Dr. Robby and Dr. Abbot are about to make out in Trauma 1?" The intern clocking their weirdness on day one? That might be a new record. Parker didn't bother looking up from her tablet. "Now that sounds like the definition of not my business," she drawled. "But if you see any hot man-on-man action, note the date and time. Ahmad's got a pool going."
“I feel like I’ve known you forever…is that strange to say?” Three conversations after the end of the world.
“Sweetheart! I’m so glad you’re here,” Jack’s mother said, walking across the carpet in a hurry. “I was so worried about—oh!” She stopped midsentence, looking at Robby, who stood by Jack’s side. She turned back to Jack. “I must have misunderstood. When you asked to bring an important friend with you, I’d taken that to mean you had a new woman in your life.” Jack could almost hear the quotes around “important friend” and flushed, glad he couldn’t see Robby’s reaction to his mother’s declaration. *** Jack brings Robby home.
“This is fucking ridiculous,” Robby grumbled while he fumbled to straighten his tie. “Of all the admin bullshit they put us through, this may be the most demeaning.” Jack bit back a laugh and knocked Robby’s hands away. “You’re making it worse,” he said and fixed the lopsided bow tie, patting his palm over the silken fabric when he was satisfied. “There. Don’t touch.” Stepping back, he made an obvious show of looking Robby up and down, from his neatly brushed hair and trimmed beard to his newly shined dress shoes. “They’ll drop top dollars for you,” Jack said, teasingly, hoping his face didn’t expose his genuine appreciation for just how good Robby looked in the bespoke tuxedo. “Ridiculous,” Robby muttered. “Hospital administration is parading department chiefs on stage like we’re contestants in a reality show.” —- Robby begrudgingly participates in a PTMC charity auction.
Ms. Briones spent much of the past year in Los Angeles shooting Season 2 of “The Pitt,” HBO Max’s hit medical drama, but now she’s enjoying a change of pace: playing a pop star in the musical “Just in Time” on Broadway. She is one of several “Pitt” stars taking to the stage. “It’s just such a joyous night at the theater,” she said. “You leave with the biggest smile on your face.” Ms. Briones spent a Sunday with The New York Times as she got ready for a performance.
“You okay?” Robby asked, concern lacing his voice, all of this attention now on Jack. “Yeah, yeah. It’s—fuck this is dumb.” Jack mentally braced himself. “So you’re on Grindr, right?” “...Yes,” Robby answered hesitantly, his brow furrowing in confusion. “And I know you know that, so…” He trailed off and raised his eyebrows, questioning. Jack did some quick mental math on how to have this conversation without humiliating himself and came up empty, so he took the direct approach. “How would you advise an older bi guy who’s new to the whole ‘sex with men’ scene?” Jack comes to Robby for help, but things don’t go as planned for either of them.
Jack turns up at Robby's door at 2 a.m. Robby gets to be the fixer for once.
Robby's done MSF; he can do Ukraine. Especially with Jack to follow.
