And today it's time for the fic I wrote for Asheera/Shadowheart's fic anniversary. It's now been three years of writing our favorite cleric and her Lady paladin, and I know it won't be the last :)

This one's an AU one-shot because a friend started talking about the scenario in this fic and I couldn't help but write it for the girls.

Clocking in at ye olde Drifter x Arthur factory. Working on a little confession fic that is quickly outgrowing its "little" status.

"Good to see you enjoying yourself," Drifter said as they hopped onto the barstool next to him—flashing a smile almost as bright as the void light in their eyes.

Arthur caught himself staring a beat too long and tried to cover it with a sip of his drink, hoping they hadn't noticed. Clearing his throat, he set the bottle down with a crooked smile and sideways glance.

"You mean not being such a stick in the mud," Arthur quipped—the alcohol buzzing pleasantly in his head.

Drifter was quick with their response.

"Or having one in other places."

Arthur's head snapped around at that, and Drifter looked so pleased with themself that he had to work to keep his face straight. He took another drink, pulse—or whatever passed for it in this techrot body—quickening as Drifter laughed at their own joke. He liked seeing them laugh. It had a way of making Arthur feel like things might actually turn out okay.

"Easy, mate," Arthur said—gaze lingering. "Let the evening get kicked off before you really start to have a go at me."

"Sorry," Drifter said—their apology hampered by the fact they were still giggling to themself.

What do you love about Minthara?

extremely intelligent, decisive, and pragmatic woman who believes in brutality as a tool but not a bludgeon. an exploration of an "evil" character who loves deeply and truly and who's immorality does not detract from her character at all. perhaps the only companion in the game who's story is directly and specifically tied to the main quest. her mind in a cold fortress except to you, who get to see her yearn for affection and the touch of another, who bears the scars of betrayal from menzoberrazen through to orin. the narrative lets her be incredibly strong and incredibly violent and vengeful while never making her seem inhuman or robbing her of her complexity. she is a villain and she is a victim and also she doses her love interest with poison so they build up an immunity in case anyone tries to kill them. she is everything.

when i was 10 same sex marriage was legalised in england and wales. that summer i went to so many weddings. there were weeks i went to a wedding every single day, some days we had to choose which wedding to go to. i loved it cuz i got to dress up and hang out w a bunch of happy ppl and eat food and dance. when i see that quote abt how gay ppl during the aids crisis had to choose between funerals it reminds me of that summer. of how far weve come and how far we still have to go. hiv is now controllable with a pill once a day. only 6 ppl have ever been cured of aids. the uk wasnt hit nearly as hard by hiv/aids as other countries like it, partly cuz of a massive public information campaign. 20,000 ppl still died. i went to so many 10 year anniversary parties last year.
