Bela: She has no memory of her human skin. The human life she had in the village has been completely forgotten. But, does anyone have memory before they were born? ...Being the first, she was completely experimental. Miranda had no idea if the cadou would work on a woman who was already half dead. After her transformation she was impressionable and her years living alongside Alcina shaped her very being. To Bela, her mother wasn't just a parent she was the blueprint. As a result, Bela mirrors everything about her mother. From her mannerisms and high expectations, to her internal struggles.

Daniela: unlike Bela, Dani remembers quite a bit of being a human. Her memories, now lucid and distant haunt her like a waking nightmare. Her constitution was simply different than Cassandra's and Bela's. Undiagnosed Bipolar I coupled with BPD made Dani a variable in an otherwise flawless experiment. The cadou should have blunted her feelings and hollowed her out, yet Dani can recall some of her previous life. In her mortal life, she was a maid, a nanny, and a farmhand. As the years pass, she forgets more and more but instinctively knows to be wary of Miranda. The cadou, isolation, and haunting memories of medical torture have made Dani delusional and psychopathic.

Cassandra: Cold, aggressive, aloof. Cassandra was, in Miranda's opinion, the perfect specimen. Human life holds very little meaning to Cassandra. She views the world through the lens of predator and prey. She seeks every opportunity to compete and escalate mild situations to violence. However, despite her cold and sadistic exterior she is extremely devoted to House Dimitrescu.

typically I portray all sisters as lesbian except Daniela who is bisexual. However, depending on the verse that might change!

DRABBLE | Modern AU

"Help your sister." Mother says with a stern look. Blissfully ignorant to the reality of Daniela's mind and Cassandra's double life. She can thank Bela for that ignorance.

An echo of Daniela's wails, her nails embedded into the wall. Tufts of ginger hair decorate the carpeting over a missed phone call from a lover. Cassandra owns a brick of coke, duct taped under the seat of her car.

Help them, she says. Really, she means control them. Yank the leash back a little and fit them into the mold I expect. Keep me ignorant is what Bela hears and she's already done it. Daniela is on a 72 hour hold, Cassandra's drugs have disappeared.

"Yes, Mother." Bela says, a broken record. The years of the same command have made her tone dry and perhaps a bit hopeless.

The only time she is seen by her mother is when she follows this command.

Her greatest crime was being born to a mother who expects greatness in a world that demands too much. The bar grows higher and higher, Bela must jump to reach it until she no longer can. She wonders if this will be the rest of her life. Jumping when Alcina says jump and chipping away the trust she's built with her sisters to execute Alcina's orders

𝗕𝗘𝗟𝗔 𝗛𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗦 𝗕𝗘𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗜𝗠𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗔𝗟

She remembers nothing of her past life. The castle, a perpetual prison. She loves Alcina, dearly. She enjoys tormenting the maids. She doesn't mind the holidays. Yet, she's perpetually bored and craves a certain stimulation she isn't getting. Her escape is reading, but even that becomes taunting after a while.

I'd say there's also an element of loneliness. She has no connection platonic or otherwise to keep her preoccupied. I use time/clocks/seasons as storytelling motifs to symbolize her suppressed anger at her immortality.

Some quotes from her perspective I've written sort of encapsulate it:

"The cadou kills the host, the same way immortality kills the clock." + "The injustice of immortality."

I don't think she's self aware enough to truly understand the weight immortality has on her. Bela always assumes that she's being dramatic or ungrateful when it comes to her feelings about immortality. She cannot admit that she's unhappy about anything.

Who were the girls before they were turned?

Bela was born under a different name. Sofia Andrei. She was the middle child in a family of seven. Two older brothers, and two younger siblings. One boy and one girl.

She lived like any peasant girl in the village would have lived. Child rearing, cooking, cleaning, occasionally she worked as a farm hand. She was set to be married off young, have a slew of children, and continue the cycle of poverty.

There was a terrible famine in the village one year. Two of her youngest siblings were starving. She put her name in a drawing Mother Miranda had invented long before she was born. Put your name in a drawing for food, the catch? Potential experimentation.

Bela was selected. Miranda kept her alive in a lab. She had no clue if her family had been fed, or if they knew where she was. Before she could completely die, she was implanted with a cadou. Her forehead was branded with a tattoo and she was given to Alcina who affectionately renamed her Bela.

Born as Adriana Bogdan, she's the eldest daughter in her human life. Her father is an alcoholic, her mother is dead. Three siblings, two boys and a girl, cling to her skirt, too young to fend for themselves. Cassandra takes a job as a maid to take care of them.

Everyday she enters that castle, petrified. She masks that fear through aggression. It's surprisingly effective, she lives long enough to survive more than a couple of months. Alcina tells her to fetch something from the basement, she's attacked before she can make it down the steps.

Her aggression had landed her several enemies, rival maids gutted her and left her for dead outside the castle walls. They unknowingly hid her body near Miranda's lab. Cassandra was terrified not for her life but for her siblings. The last thing she sees is Miranda and foolishly believes she's been saved.

That night, Adriana Bogdan died and Cassandra Dimitrescu was reborn. She remembers little of her past life, only the aggression she held onto so tightly remains.

Born in Scotland to a noble family with several siblings, Daniela crossed the North Sea then traveled with a group of merchants until she landed in Romania. Her name then was Isobel Duncan. Wild and free, Daniela's hunger for the world was never sated only halted. When she landed in the village during a night market festival, she was kidnapped. The small group of villagers were planning on sacrificing her for good fortune. Daniela wasn't able to get away.

Out of her sisters she remembers the most about her past life. Green rolling hills, grey seas, white skies above. In her madness she assumes her memories are just dreams.
