Ok so the reason I decided to make this blog now, is yesterday I was working on this drawing for like three hours screaming crying yelling etc extremely fucking frustrated because it just would. not. happen. I'd done the sketch the day before and it went like. fine, I was happy enough with it, but then I picked up a pencil to render and... 💔💔💔 For like three hours. And then. Finally. It just loosened, and started to work and now I'm so excited about ittt!! Didn't have a chance to work on it today cause I needed to clean, and my energy was gone afterwards, but hopefully I'll get back to it tomorrow. It's joining the ranks as one of three jeff satur pieces that I'm currently working on actively, and I'm really excited about all of them, and truly feel like they're all going well, so! Yay!
Alright I did not get a chance to work on this yesterday as I had hoped because, once again, I needed to clean and my energy was gone afterwards (woooo, chronic fatigue, we love her, wooo (heavy sarcasm)). But TODAY I made a little progress. But honestly I was kinda tired and low-key hungry the entire time I was working on it and it just... never really clicked. I didn't do nearly as much as I would've liked to.
The hand is not locked at all, but aside from that, I do feel pretty confident in what I did do. I just. aughh. Idk. Hmm it almost felt more mechanical, y'know, more like work than any sort of creative process today, which is annoying? Because I make art for the enjoyment of creation. But I know it's probably just because I was tired, so. At least I made progress, that always feels good. Net positive day, I'll take it. 💕
Double update! I drew a little bit yesterday. I finished up a different piece, and then I did a little bit for this one, but it felt really meh and didn't accomplish a whole lot so this is where I left off
When I woke up today, I almost immediately thought about this drawing, and I was like. 'Okay. I want this to be done now. I'm ready for this to be done,' and I figured I'd just do something rough for his hair, anything to fill the space. So that's where I started, sort of just sketching and filling it in, and Then. I finally got to defining the line of the back of his hand, and then I worked my way through defining the fingers and... God today was just such a good day with this!! I had so much fun getting started on the fabric and the sculpting of the front part of his hand, which is really nearly there now! I was just really in that flow today and I loved it. I think I worked for almost three hours (I'm not a very quick girlie), and this is where we're at now!
Sidenote, you notice lots of weird stuff when you draw that you wouldn't notice otherwise. Did you know Jeff has hair on his fingers? I mean, most people have hair on their fingers, but now I know for sure that Jeff is one of them! I didn't really think I would be drawing Jeff's finger hair, but tody I drew two strands of it. Okay. :)
I also think I was being ridiculous when I picked up this ref, looked at it and went 'hmmm, this pic doesn't make me feel feral, I don't care that much about it, I could probably do this pretty quickly. I'll just do like a sketch type thing, I won't go in too hard on the details.' Like. Hair and fabrics are literally my two favourite things to draw???? Of COURSE I would get suckered into the little details, especially when there's so many individual strands of hair as well, like... !!! Idk what I was thinking lol.
But whatever, on to more important matters: Due to it's brightness, and it being in the foreground, the hand is currently the most eye-catching thing about this picture, which is a concern of mine, BUT it is not as bad as it looks in this photo, cause my phone struggles a bit to focus sometimes. I really want the eyes to be the focal point, and I think that once I finish adding details to the hair (especially highlights), and also finish sculpting everything else to the same level of detail, the hand will no longer stand out quite as much. But I know deepening some of the shadows to really get those contrasts would be the best way to do it. However. I struggled so much with the placement of the eyes in the beginning, and I worked on them so much to get everything right, that the paper is at this point fully saturated, and depressed to the point that the structure is fully gone underneath the iris. All this to say, I don't think I will be able to darken the eyes. Luckily, the eyes are currently the darkest points of the drawing, but I need to make sure they remain that way! Which means that I cannot darken any parts of the hair beyond the points of the eyes, which might make it hard to actually portray all the details in it. I'm not despairing or anything atm, I'm just staying aware that if any problems will arise with this drawing, it's likely to stem from there. But whatever. Bridges and getting to them etc. For now I'm just enjoying this, and looking forwards to continuing with placing the rest of the hand, and after that probably placing the fabric :)
I've sort of been working on this a little on and off, but I stopped posting updates cause I stopped being as excited about it? But today, thanks to my Good Productive Day, I finally feel like I made solid progress, and I enjoyed it a lot :)
I've realized two things through this drawing (and one of them is quite stupid)
1. I realized that it's been ages, like definitely more than a year, since the last time I worked on a pencil drawing of this scale AND with this level of detail. Like, I can't even remember the last time. I do a lot of quite small drawings, and there's really only so much detail you can put into someone's face when it's the size of one of your fingernails. I've done larger drawings in charcoal and other mediums, but they just don't allow for the same degree of detail. Idk. It's cool to see how my skills have progressed :)
2. You... You can use... A kneadable eraser... With graphite..... (yes this is the stupid one). I don't fucking know why but I just never tried it? I was introduced to kneadable erasers in an art class I took as a little kid, and always in the context of drawing with charcoal so like, I just, never used it for anything but charcoal???? Which is so stupid, like why the fuck would you not be able to use a kneadable eraser with graphite??? there is no reason!!!! It just. never occurred to me to try it out. allll of these years. Anyways. It's revolutionised my life 💕 so. that's it for this update :)
Late last night I felt The Urge, and I sat down and did the base for this even though the light was fading fast. By the time I wrapped it up it was so dark I could barely see what I was drawing, but here's a pic I took with flash, and a selfie for comparison.
I think there's something quite freeing about drawing in the dark. If you can't see what the fuck you're doing you're definitely not worrying too much about what you're doing, or getting too lost in the little details.
I picked it back up this morning, some before breakfast and some after. I rarely drink anything when I work, I tend to just swallow it down quickly to move the glass out of the way, but today I brought my favourite coffee mug. It was a really peaceful morning, and it set a really good tone for the day<3

I was pretty tired yesterday and just wanted to spend some chill, no-pressure time working on a fun and somewhat easier project than any of my current wips, so I started this. Everything else I've got going right now are portraits, and if your line is just one, two, or god forbid, five millimeters off the mark in a portrait, your man's gonna look like he was crafted by Picasso, rather than God. I love portraits, and they're what I do most of, but capturing someone's likeness is hard. Something like this is far more forgiving. Make a section a little too wide? Okay, so his hair is more voluminous now. Your proportions aren't fucked, they're just different. Working at a larger scale than what I typically do also helps with this.
I started watching the untamed for the first time during the past week (currently on ep 25, so no spoilers pls!), and that's where I got this reference from. I'm really enjoying the show, but also trying not to binge. This project is great in allowing me to engage with the show without burning through the episodes too quickly, so yay.
This is also my first ever landscape, and it's kinda exciting! I have a tendency towards locking myself pretty tightly to a reference and struggeling to stray from the picture, but here, I'm finding it much easier. I find myself thinking about what little I know of composition, and perspective and ideas, rather than just squinting at a picture on my phone. The blurriness of the reference is definitely helping in driving some of that more desicion-based painting, but I'm taking the win.
I guess that's all for now? I hope some of y'all like the untamed, cause the show has some beautiful shots, and I'll hopefully be painting a few more of them<3
Yesterday I focused on the left side clouds, and I made things a little bit stormy, and today I'm unstorming them a little. This is all in an effort to try and figure out where I want my clouds to be. Which is kinda harder than I thought it would be? But idk. I'm becoming more confident/familiar with these brushes, which is good.
I've held back on posting the updates for this one because I was feeling a bit uncertain with the clouds but. Yesterday! I decided to swap back to the synthetic brushes I'm more confident with. I feel like the brushes I was working with would have been soooo much more suited to canvas, but this is paper. As soon as I switched, everything became so much easier. Spent yesterday and today soft-ifying the clouds, and look! They're so feathery and hazy and dreamy now, I love them<3 And they're... finished??????? maybe????? I think maybe!!!! Anyways I'm feeling really excited about this now, looking forwards to tackling the terrain<3

It's ya local Norwegian girl, Sun @sitron-sunni, back at it again with a new sideblog, wooo.
So the thing is, I make a lot of art and I have an Instagram for posting my art that I use maybe once a year to show finished pieces, but. I'm always most passionate about my art when I'm in the process of making it, but I rarely feel like going on Instagram during those times, cause everyone who follows me on there is either a stranger or someone I know irl. I make a lot of fanart, and I have a bad habit of abandoning my pieces, even ones that are going well. The result is that I have lots of half-finished art that I'm kind of proud of, but that no-one ever sees, and I also have nowhere to rant when I'm frustrated, or yell when I'm excited. There's a couple of people on tumblr that I've started connecting with a bit over the past year, and idk. I think I'd like to share some of this stuff with people, and maybe people would like to see it as well. So I figure, everything will go on this blog, and when I do higher quality fan-ish stuff that I think more people would enjoy, I'll maybe also reblog it to my main? That's the plan for now!
