I log in to Tumblr after disappearing for 2 months (again) and the "search Tumblr" page is completely different...

Is there a way to get it to look normal again? Because seriously this will probably be my last post on Tumblr if I can't browse tags and reblog like I used to. HELP!

People talking about Turkey call for democracy, as if democracy is synonymous with freedom and liberty.

Erdogan, Turkey’s prime minister, was democratically elected. He’s the one who turned a peaceful protest into a violent, brutal display of government power and authority. In fact, Erdogan is quite popular. He won reelection in 2007 and 2011, and many in Turkey like him because he helped to stabilize the lira and calm down some other factors in the country.

Democracy does not mean liberty. It does not mean freedom. It’s just a less centralized way for one group to have power over another. Turkey is displaying that right now. They don’t need more democracy. Turks don’t get to vote on Erdogan until 2015, and their press can’t even do any real reporting. Erdogan is hard at work curbing the rights and freedoms of the Turkish people. The answer isn’t more democracy. The answer is less government.

Democracy continues to allow these kinds of situations to occur. Democracy allowed this police violence and murder to occur. We can argue all day that this “isn’t how democracy is supposed to be” but the reality is that these are the results of democracy regardless of what people romanticize it to be. I do not understand why people demand more of a system that continues to fail them.
