Some #DnD characters with #cutewinterboots ! Fun campaign idea for table top gaming!
Finally dipping my toe in digital art with a Matty Matheson inspired DnD character
Yet another addition to my LotR cultural redesign is another Filipino-inspired hobbit: Samwise. In the books, Sam is described as being descended from Harfoots, a shorter, darker skinned race of Halflings. In contrast, Frodo had Fallohide ancestry which showed in his taller-than-average stature and paler skin. The Philippines has tremendous ethnic diversity which left a lot of room for creativity. Sam has very few descriptive traits beyond being short yet strong, “fat” (according to Gollum), and having “brown hands”. He is a gardener from a working-class family, so I based him heavily on colonial-era farmers and peasants with colorful but functional clothing. The blade he’s holding is a bolo-guna, a common gardening tool that is used for weeding, pruning, and digging.
Joining my LoTR cultural redesign is Filipino Frodo! The clothing is based on upper-class colonial dress and Sting is now a bolo machete.
The Abattoir
Orcs are an highly adaptable species, with their adult body size being largely determined by access to food during childhood. For example, the orcs of the resource scarce Southern Isle being similar in size to dwarves. Karn is an extreme example of the opposite side of this phenomenon, with his height and weight approaching that of a small ogre. Coming from a family of knockers and butchers, Karn was raised on the meat brought home from the slaughterhouse. Going into the family business, he eventually grew large enough to wield a lamb splitter with one hand. His skill with both a blade and a dispatching hammer eventually led him to open his own butcher shop specializing in rare and exotic meats. His suppliers bring him strange and unique creatures from abroad for slaughter and sale. Less than savory individuals including those with ties to the organized crime community have been known to make backdoor drop offs at night. The day after these mysterious deliveries often features ambiguous “butcher’s choice” specials. However, the best cuts are always saved to satisfy Karn’s adventurous palate.
I’m giving inktober another shot, this time I’m only doing a weekly challenge. I’m sticking to the Primal prompts starting with “prey”!
kobolds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Feeling nostalgic so I drew an Urgal from the Inheritance Cycle. Had fun with this one
A few months back I designed a scientifically-plausible species of giants. I posted my design and got some awesome feedback. This new drawing is partly to implement some of those ideas, and partly show off a new character.
Martu, The Living Siege Engine
Stolen from his giant tribe as a child, Martu was sold as a slave to a circus. For years he was stripped of his dignity and basic rights, and forced to perform tricks and feats of strength for jeering crowds. Chained, beaten, and scarred, the circus ringmaster thought he had throughly broken the young behemoth’s spirit and became complacent. One night an opportunity arose and the giant seized his chance...and the ringmaster’s spine.
Freed from his torturous existence, Martu attempted to return to his lost tribe. However, unfamiliar his native tongue and having mostly forgotten giant culture, he found himself an outsider among his own species. With no home or family, Martu sought shelter among smaller species such as orcs, humans, and dwarves.
Originally working as a laborer to support himself, Martu eventually discovered his calling as a mercenary. Geared with a sling that can launch rocks the size of melons, Martu became a living war machine. His missiles tear through ranks like cannon balls and his massive legs smash gates like battering rams. Due to the massive amount of heat his body generates, full body armor is impractical. Instead, his vulnerable legs are fitted with spiked barrels, while round shields protect his thighs and a thick oak door shields his upper half from arrows. This makeshift armor combined with his naturally thick hide make him near invulnerable as he advances on enemy fortifications. His services are in high demand and his fees are steep, but well worth the cost. Many a siege was won by the inclusion of his unique skills.
Inktober 2019 Day 9: Swing
Inktober 2019 Day 7: Enchanted
Inktober 2019 Day 4: Freeze
Inktober 2019 Day 3 “Bait”
My first year doing Inktober, so I’m starting simple with “Ring”.
Vidallia the kobold for @corgiss
Love to see a fresh take on kobolds! Not quite reptilian, not quite fuzzy mammal, but definitely unique!
Although bulls stand a staggering 7.5-8ft tall, Firbolgs are not related to giants. Instead they are kin to the elves, having been crafted by the same goddess of nature. As elves have inherited herd social structure from their deer ancestors, so Firbolgs have inherited solitude from their moose-elk ancestors. With their increased size and strength comes territorial aggression. Firbolgs live solitary lives wandering the northern woodlands defending the ancient forests from intruders. If a Firbolg is outmatched, it will communicate danger with deep bellowing calls that can be heard for miles, signaling others to come to their aid.
Firbolgs are excellent fighters, combining massive strength and surprising speed. Unlike elves they will regularly use steel weaponry. They do, however, dislike the weight of metal armor and avoid wearing plate and mail. Most Firbolgs wear cloth or leather armor. Heavy coats made from aurochs or bison hide are often worn as a protective layer against both the cold and from arrows. Their archery even surpasses their elven cousins, shooting 4ft arrows from powerful longbows carved from dense hardwood. Even unarmed, Firbolgs are incredibly dangerous, being capable of tremendous feats of strength. Their legs alone can deliver fatally powerful kicks.
