fresh dandelion salad

today I was like "man I'm hungry" so I went outside.

I looked around a little and surveyed the vast wonder that is northeastern pennsylvania.  then I looked down.  dandelions.

how do it

pick as many dandelions as you need.  I had two cups, but one cup fresh dandelion leaves are a total of 25 calories.  take them inside and strip them.

where the stem thins out at the top, just pull the whole leaf off there.  strip the outside leaves from the stem, which tastes like bitter dandelion milk.  clean them off, I recommend.  I just run them under sink water a while as I pulled them off and cleaned each leave individually as I went about it.

strainers work well when you are separating the stem from the leaf.

you can cut them up a little more if you happen to love dandelions, but I kept the leaves whole as I stripped them.  dandelions are, honestly, kinda bitter.  but trust me it gets better.  it always does.

throw them into a bowl when ready and add a light sauce (or not if you're up to it).  I used Boar's Head vidalia sauce for mine but I think lemon poppy seed would taste great.  ranch, definitely.

dandelions are fuzzy so caution on that but as light as the salad is, I feel very full.  chew in small bites for maximum enjoyment.  I began eating like a madman at first because I was hungry but I slowed down and it was damn good, man.  the bitter is counteracted by way of dressing and I am not kidding when I say it is bitter, in an interesting way.  it starts floral as dandelions can be, then a bit like lettuce.  then comes the bitter.  these dandelions were as wild as przewalski's horses so maybe more domesticated (??) dandelions would be tamer.

trying out this "schedule" thing, bear with me!

IT'S THE WEEKLY THURSDAY LP/EP!

this gem I found on bandcamp got me all geared up for summer; the debut EP of Slime Girls!

the EP gives a really unique presentation of style; chip via LSDJ combined with some traditional instruments (two guitars and a drum).  the songs are all pretty upbeat and exciting, with a few mildly slower ones slipped in for good measure.

what's more is that Slime Girls will, according to the official tumblr, be releasing some more music this year!  this EP was released June 2012, so some new stuff is long-awaited by some of my friends (I had only just found it earlier this week).
