HOPE.

“Fine. You don’t want anyone to take care of you? Fine. Deal with it all on your own, Fin.” The words weren’t even smart, or snippy. They were just… defeated. She didn’t want to argue with him. She just wanted to make sure he was okay. She knew he wasn’t an idiot. He knew how to take care of himself, and was likely listening to the nurses, but she’d just gotten her brother back. She didn’t want to chance him being too hurt to roam the building freely, subjected to the nurse’s area for a closer watch. She wanted to keep him close, the way they always had been. “I get it.” She said softly.

“I just got here, I don’t want to just… shower and crash.” Her body did, though. She was tired, and comfortable, and she knew she needed the rest. “I wouldn’t mind sleeping here, though. Just for today.” She knew she’d have a better chance of actually resting knowing her brother was there.

Fin just hummed in acknowledgement, settling back in the couch. That was all he wanted from the beginning, after all. Prue was just as hard headed as he was, and they clashed easily, over almost anything, but they were both tired, which made them more irritable than ever.

“Trust me, yes you do,” Fin laughed. “I sat up for a while talking with Jackie after being released from medical, but then I conked out for like…… a day and a half, I’m pretty sure. I don’t know. She let me sleep and went about her life, and I didn’t try to keep track after that.”

She was relieved that what she had said had been enough to bring him to a halt, silence taking over the space between them as they sat there, together. At some point, in arguing with him, she’d pulled her head away from his shoulder, but now that the waters had calmed, she lazily rested against him once more. She knew none of their arguments ever really amounted to much. They fought too often for it to matter really, too similar for their own good.

“If I sleep here for a day and a half, promise you’ll wake me up to make sure I stay hydrated.” She chuckled, shifting a little to lean more against him. “I know I could use it. I just... it’s been a long time since I’ve seen you. It was like... part of me was missing, Fin.”

“I don’t care.” She shot back, irritation heavy in her tone. “You’re my brother. I’m gonna worry you until the day I die, whether you’re walking funny or in perfect shape. Get used to it.” The words may have sounded angry, but they were coming from a place of love. She knew how hard headed her brother could be. They both were, after all. But, that wasn’t enough to convince her to ever stop caring about him. If they didn’t care about each other, who would? “I’m not treating you like a child. I’m just not strong enough to carry you if you fall or something.” She said softly. “I dont’ want to argue with you.”

She was quiet, tugging the blanket over to throw a little portion of it over him as well. “Sleep sounds better than anything.” She admitted, her voice quiet. “Even down in the infirmary, all I had to do was sleep, and it wasn’t enough.”

“Yeah, and as you brother you should know when to lay off after all you’ve done is defend Jackie mothering me and almost done the same thing,” he snipped. “I’ve taken care of myself just fine up til this point, it was a slip up, but now that I’m in here, I can’t get into that much trouble. I’m fine,” He hadn’t bothered going much further than places around the apartment, venturing down the hallway to the elevator just to stretch a little more, but he knew he couldn’t put too much stress on his ankle yet. “I promise I’m doing everything they told me to,” his voice was more gentle now. “I’m making sure it’s clean and rewrapping it twice a day, but I also don’t want to be confined to this room, either. You get that, right?”

“I don’t know if we’ll ever feel like we’ve gotten enough sleep,” he murmured, covering his legs, eyes roving over to the tv through heavy lids. “You can stay here, for a nap, if you wanna. I’m not gonna kick you out, anyway.”

God forbid you make it worse, just to get some fresh air.” She said softly. “So, if you think you’ll be alright, we’ll go. Not today, because I’m fucking exhausted, but… later this week.”

“I don’t need to be worried about!” he protested, soft irritation in his voice again. “You and Jackie are treating me like a child; I’m not. I can handle going on a walk,” Fin insisted, but nodded at her stipulation. “I’m not chomping at the bit to go today, either, I’m sleeping, but not enough, I’m still pretty fatigued constantly, it’s like my body realizes just how much rest I’ve been missing and wants me to sleep for like four days straight.”

“I don’t care.” She shot back, irritation heavy in her tone. “You’re my brother. I’m gonna worry you until the day I die, whether you’re walking funny or in perfect shape. She shrugged, eyes fixated on the string she was tugging at, wrapping it around her finger a few times in hopes that she would be able to break it off without ruining the threading in the process. “Maybe we can go explore together.” She suggested, finally looking up at him. “Once you’re better.”

“I’m not sick, you know,” he pointed. He didn’t enjoy fighting with Prue, but sometimes they pushed each other too far, and Jackie was always the touchiest subject. “It’s not that i’m not better, it’s just that I sort of hobble around, and I don’t really want to wear real shoes, I’d prefer to wear sandals since I have to wrap it up and it just feels bad. But I really woudln’t turn down a walk outside or something, just to see what’s out there, and maybe get a breath or two of fresh air. I’m used to being outside and even though it constantly tastes like death, I kinda miss it.”

It wasn’t often that Fin and Prue actually talked about serious subjects. Of course, she always had her brother to turn to when she needed to bitch about something, or found herself in an overly messy situation, and the door swung both ways. But, this was a level of serious she didn’t like. Sinking back against the couch right next to him, she let out a defeated sigh. “You mean like… cut off your arm?” She’d seen enough of The Walking Dead to know how Hershel survived as long as he did. But, she wasn’t so sure that was realistic. Wouldn’t a bite lead into the blood stream rather than be centralized around one part of the body? She was thankful, though, to turn the attention back on his living situations and the girl he was shacking up with. Anything was better than talking about death. “I just mean like… for now. I know personal space is important. Trust me, you know I’m always gonna choose alone time over a crowd, but she’d worried about you, Fin. She was always needy, to begin with. But, I’m sure whatever bullshit she faced out there didn’t help. You being hurt is probably like… icing on the badnews cake.” She shrugged. “How’s living with her?” She asked curiously.

“There’s a pool?” The idea of a gym wasn’t anything to cheer about, but she knew she’d still find time to stay active when she was feeling up to it. A pool though, was like the best thing she could have been told. She’d always loved swimming, even if it was just in a pond or river with their friends. An actual pool was like a godsend after everything she’d been through. “Maybe I’ll go check it out later this week. I don’t want to like… take care of a full garden but it might be nice to just.. have a flower to take care of on my own.”

“No,” his response was curt, and clearly that was all he was going to say on the subject. There was no way of knowing how this outbreak worked, and there was no way of knowing if you’d be able to cut off the blood properly. There were too many factors, and Fin was very glad to not have to think about any of them anymore. “Will you back off?” his tone was sharp, and he looked irritated. “I know Jackie better than you do, so stop telling me how I need to act around her and treat her. This isn’t our first dance, and it certainly wont’ be our last,” he let out an annoyed huff, running a hand through his hair. “It’s fine. It’s nice to have someone around when I wake up, have someone to keep me company. It also helps that we have all the same friends so if we invite someone over, no one is unhappy.”

“Yeah; I haven’t had the chance to check it out myself, but I’ve heard Cassi and Jackie talking about it,” he was itching to get down there, but with an open wound, he didn’t want to risk anything, especially when antibiotics were a treasure. “I guess you could always poke around and see what’s available for you out there,”

“I didn’t waste any time to see what happens when people show up at the wall. I literally made it there, and a few of them rushed me past the barricades, and that was it. I’m sure it’s awful, though. Making it all the way here, only to be turned away. I imagine it’s just as bad, trying to make it here, and realizing it’s not worth trying because you were bitten. Like… I don’t know how you prepare for that.” She shook her head, as if to shake the thought entirely, forcing herself to drop the subject. “You really can be a dumb boy sometimes.” She chuckled, shifting on the couch so she was sitting next to her brother. “Girls always coddle the boys they like. It’s just like… human nature, or whatever.” She nudged him. “Maybe if you like… include her in those things, she’ll feel better about you doing it on your own. I know you don’t need to prove anything, but it might put her mind to ease, a little.”

“I know. It’s just… hard. That was my entire life, for months.” She reminded him softly, though she was sure he was the same. Especially being as he was working outside of the walls. “Are there like… actual things to do here? Besides watching TV and dicking around inside? I noticed some flowers, on my way into the building.” She commented, certain he’d understand her curiosity. Prue had always grown flowers. Or at least, tried to. They usually didn’t live very long, but that never stopped her from planting a new one and watering it on a regular basis.

“Smart,” he tried not to look too hard at anyone who wasn’t being allowed in as he was ushered into the safe zone, shuddering a little as he recalled the screams. “I guess if you did get bitten, you have time to prepare, or take care of it before it gets that far,” it was much too morbid of a topic, even for them, and he was glad to have something else to talk about. “She’s always included in that stuff, it’s not like I’d be purposefully excluding her, but I also need a little time to myself, you know?”

“Not so much, yet,” he shook his head. “There’s a gym, and a pool, but I think most people are just happy to be safe and actually have downtime to watch netflix or dick around on the internet, but there is like a garden type area outside, but I have no idea if it’s got stuff available for people to garden. I think they’re still trying to make sure no one is a risk to themselves or others before breaking out anything remotely dangerous.”

“It’s getting worse out there. It’s not like… totally shocking that the infirmary is the busiest place here. I mean, the first thing they did when I got here was shoved me down there. I assume it’s the same with everyone, and chances are, I doubt they’ve all be as lucky as we were.” She thought out loud. She knew there were likely people that were sent on their way, for the safety of others, and there were probably some that even died down in those quarters. She was glad she’d only had cuts and bruises, and a lack of water. Things could have been much, much worse. “You been icing it?” She inquired. “Be happy you’ve got somebody worrying about you.” She insisted, watching him carefully. “It’s just because she likes you.”

“I think those things being naked is the only way they could get any worse. Although, the monsters on the show aren’t nearly as ferocious looking as the real ones.” She pointed out with a shrug. She hated thinking about those creatures. She wouldn’t admit it, but they infiltrated her dreams in the worst of ways, and after months without sleep, constantly on edge that one of those monsters would break through whatever hiding place she’d claimed that night, she hated that she couldn’t shake them, even in the safety behind the walls. “I don’t want to think about doing anything for a little while.” She admitted. “But, I’m sure that’ll get old real quick.” If they were alike in any way, it was how restless they both could be.

“Yeah, I’m sort of surprised that they have enough staff - though maybe they’re just sending in more military personnel when we’re sleeping or something,” the military’s presence was very noticeable in the building, and you could hear them outside, too. “No, some people come in looking absolutely wrecked, and those are the ones they allow in.” he shook his head. “It’s the ones they wont’ allow in that have it worse, because they know what that means,” He huffed, crossing his arms. “I can still be annoyed! I don’t want to be on bed rest anymore, I want to go hang out with Taylor, go explore the building, maybe get onto the roof, if it’s possible. I know she likes me and it’s not that I don’t appreciate it, but I don’t like being coddled.”

“It’s best to try not to dwell on the things you saw,” he encouraged gently. “It’s not easy, by any means, but thankfully there’s a lot of tv and people to keep your brain occupied a lot of the time. And yeah, it does get boring, after a while. The first few days I enjoyed not constantly being on the run, but it doesn’t take a lot for me to get bored.”

“I think I’ve been down there enough!” She argued, shaking her head as she took the glass of ice water, wasting little time in sipping at it. It was nice to have a normal drink for a change. She’d always preferred them cold, and surviving meant giving up amenities like ice and chilled drinks.

“Trust me, I’m just as relieved. The last thing I needed was getting stuck with some asshole, or somebody that annoyed the shit out of me.” She chuckled. She could tell by the look on Eve’s face that she felt guilty defending her now ex-boyfriend. “Of course he was.” She said simply. “Otherwise, I doubt you would have stuck around. But he wasn’t good enough for you.” She pointed out. “You miss him?” She knew it was unhealthy, but it was only natural to miss the people you were used to being around, and Eve had been consumed by the boy and his control entirely at one point. Glass in her other hand, she followed behind Eve, shoulders visibly relaxing at the sight of the shower. “Would it be… absolutely ridiculous to like… shower to get clean, and then take a bath just to relax? I can’t even tell you how much I’ve missed bathing.”

“That doesn’t mean I’m not taking you there if you are sick or something” She pointed out, shaking her head in return with a small roll of her eyes. “Don’t drink it too fast you might upset your stomach” She warned.

“Well even if they had put me with someone else…it wouldve been a chance to make a new friend…I haven’t done that since Gideon.” She noted. Her circle of friends had always consisted of her exboyfriends friends, and they mostly ignored her unless they were drunk and trying to make a pass at her–something that in turn got her yelled at for encouraging it somehow. “I know it’s stupid…” She murmured, kicking at a stain the carpet as they stopped in front of the bathroom. “But he’s the only person I’ve ever dated.” She added before pushing the door to the bathroom open. “No I don’t think so..I would’ve done the same had I not been so exhausted.” She laughed softly. “You hop in and I’ll find you a towel and some clothes.”

“I have to check back in, in like a week. To make sure the infection is healing how it’s supposed to.” She wasn’t looking forward to going back, worried that they’d decide to keep her for a few days once again. She couldn’t help how restless she had been, held captive to bad health. “Okay, Mom.” She grinned.

“I’m sure you’re not the only one not rushing to make friends. This is a new situation for everyone, and I doubt I’m the only one that has seen some shit. People process on their own terms. I’m sure you’ll make friends, Eve.” She knew it probably didn’t help that she wasn’t really allowed friends of her own, while she was dating. “It’s not stupid. It’s habit.” Prue had always been logical. Even if she didn’t let emotions run her thoughts, she knew it was normal for most people to do so. She sat her glass on the bathroom counter, before turning on the water, b beginning to undress, deciding to drop her dirty clothes into the trash can. She’d been wearing the same thing for months. No number of rinse cycles could get those clean.

“Good I’ll go with you too, make sure everything checks out” She gave a firm nod before making a face at Prue. “Shush yourself, you know I’m just looking out for you” She stuck her tongue out at the girl.

“I don’t know…I mean I have you Fin and Gideon, that’s good for me” She smiled sadly with a shrug. It was almost like she had to reinvent herself, she was able to be her own person for the first time in years and it was its own scary situation on top of the horrors outside of the apartments. “It’s a stupid habit” She muttered as she left her cousin to shower, finding a pair of comfy looking shorts and a big shirt as well as a clean towel. “I’ll leave these on the sink for you” She said as she tapped the door lightly while walking back into the bathroom.

“Just don’t let them keep me down there again if they don’t think it’s healing fast enough. It’s so loud and busy, and I honestly can’t handle being secluded to a bed with nothing to do again.” She let out a sigh. “I know, I know.”

“It might seem good, but there’s plenty of people here, Eve. And I know that because I literally went through the entire list of apartments and occupants. I passed a few on my way up here, and like, I doubt many of them are much older than we are. Like, I’m sure there are some like... real ass adults, but the chance of somebody’s grandpa making it here isn’t exactly realistic. I mean, I barely made it here.” She explained. “Point being, there should be plenty of opportunities to make friends, or whatever it is you’re looking for.” She climbed into the shower, and wasted little time in wetting her hair, letting the hot water run down her body. It was hot enough to burn, but she felt like she’d never get clean if it wasn’t. “Stay and talk to me.” She said loud enough to be heard over the running water.

“It’s kind of shocking how many I passed on the way to your apartment. I don’t know why, but I was picturing this place to be a lot more empty.” She admitted. “The hospital wing, or whatever you want to call it, infirmary, was basically filled. Those nurses had their work cut out for them.” She noted aloud, recalling just how noisy it got to be at times, when she had been resting. It was part of the reason she disliked being there for so long. It was loud, and it was nothing but compaints, and cries, and doctor mumbo-jumbo. “Is it healing okay?” She asked, though she assumed it had to be if they let him leave.

“I wonder if it’s gonna be like how Attack on Titan was.” She chuckled lightly. She rarely spoke about some of the shows she watched, especially anime, because she knew it usually came with teasing. But, the tall walls around the Sagebrooke reminded her of the show so much, an entire full-living world within tall, safe walls, keeping out the monsters. This was no different - except they had technology here. “Fingers crossed.”

“Really?” That shocked Fin a lot. Granted, he hadn’t really left his room, but he did remember the infirmary being obnoxiously full and noisy, but he got moved pretty quickly after the initial three days. “It was pretty busy when I was there too, but I guess for some reason that didn’t really register too much with me,” he looked down at his ankle, rolling it slowly. “Yeah; it’s just really sore. Jackie doesn’t want me moving around at all but I already played the best rest game.”

“Well, I don’t think there’s going to be huge naked giants attacking us, if that’s what you mean,” Fin snorted. He was aware of the show, but he didn’t really watch many cartoons, which is what he considered the anime his sister would consume. “I’d like it, it would help with giving a lot of us restless souls purpose once they get enough done that they need regular people to help build and garden and shit.”

“They were just busy.” She grumbled, grabbing one of the throw pillows on the couch to hug tight to her body as she curled up on one side of the couch. She wasn’t upset or even uneasy, she was just comfortable, and she hadn’t realized how much she had missed things like clean pillows and soft cushions. It wasn’t even chilly in the apartment, aside from the chill that came with having wet hair, but the idea of a blanket around her was almost heavenly. Luckily, she’d gotten the idea when she saw one draped over the couch, and wasted no time in wrapping it around herself, letting out a content sound as she sunk back against the couch, completely cozy. “Three days was, like, the waiting period or something, I guess. “A permanent community?” She asked curiously. She hadn’t even considered the idea of long term solutions. All she knew was that she was finally safe, and that was good enough. But, it made sense to want some sort of place to call safe and actually live, not just survive. “Makes sense.” She commented softly, thinking back to the construction and expanding walls she’d noticed being built when she had arrived. “I hope my apartment is as nice as this one.”

“I’m sure; I’m sort of relieved to see how many people are still making their way to the Sagebrooke, I sort of thought that after, what, like five months or just about, everyone who had survived was already here,” he watched her get cozy, snorting a little “They kept me for nearly a week, but that’s just because I was struggling to walk without limping heavily and they wanted to make sure things were healing up okay.”

Fin nodded at her question. “Yeah. They’re not sure if this can be completely redeemed, especially at the levels with which it decimated the country, if not the world, so I think it’s the smartest choice, let us try to all start over, you know?” He chewed on his lower lip, thinking for a moment. “I think I remember hearing Cassi talking about how nice her apartment was too, so it’s probably a building wide thing.”

“It’s kind of shocking how many I passed on the way to your apartment. I don’t know why, but I was picturing this place to be a lot more empty.” She admitted. “The hospital wing, or whatever you want to call it, infirmary, was basically filled. Those nurses had their work cut out for them.” She noted aloud, recalling just how noisy it got to be at times, when she had been resting. It was part of the reason she disliked being there for so long. It was loud, and it was nothing but compaints, and cries, and doctor mumbo-jumbo. “Is it healing okay?” She asked, though she assumed it had to be if they let him leave.

“I wonder if it’s gonna be like how Attack on Titan was.” She chuckled lightly. She rarely spoke about some of the shows she watched, especially anime, because she knew it usually came with teasing. But, the tall walls around the Sagebrooke reminded her of the show so much, an entire full-living world within tall, safe walls, keeping out the monsters. This was no different - except they had technology here. “Fingers crossed.”

“It took like three hours just to get a blanket. And I hadn’t exactly been cooperative. So, no, no phone charger.” She’d done her fair share of arguing with the nurses upon arrival. She was tired, and by all means, needed care, but she was determined to search for her family, and sleep in a real bed. Shower. All of the things they wouldn’t let her do.

She let out an audible sigh, paired with the rolling of her eyes, as she stepped out of the shower and grabbed the towel on the back of the door, wrapping it around her thin frame. She’d always been small, but it was clear that the time on the streets hadn’t been kind to her figure. Squinting, she made her way down the hall, hair dripping down her back and even onto the floor as she navigated to his bedroom, deciding the pink walled room likely wasn’t his. Closing the door, she laid the towel down on his bed, sitting on it on the edge of the mattress, as not to get his sheets too wet as she rested, tugging the sweatpants over her scarred legs before pairing it with the tee shirt he’d left out. Drying her hair a little more, she took the towel to the bathroom to hang up, deciding her light locks could air dry. “I didn’t expect this place to be as nice as it is.” She commented loosely as she made her way back to the livingroom, plopping down against the couch with a loud sigh. “I guess I was picturing a storm shelter or something.”

“That’s what you need to be cooperative! Jesus, Prue,” Fin rolled his eyes. “No wonder it took them three days, if you’re being difficult, they’re less likely to make you a priority. Sometimes you need to stop being so pig headed.”

He made a point to busy himself as she was getting changed, scrolling through Hulu and putting Workaholics on for a soft background din. “I know, I didn’t expect anything nearly this nice, either,” he admitted. “But I’ve overheard people talking about how they want to make this a permanent community, so I guess it was in their best interest to pick someplace nice.”

“They were just busy.” She grumbled, grabbing one of the throw pillows on the couch to hug tight to her body as she curled up on one side of the couch. She wasn’t upset or even uneasy, she was just comfortable, and she hadn’t realized how much she had missed things like clean pillows and soft cushions. It wasn’t even chilly in the apartment, aside from the chill that came with having wet hair, but the idea of a blanket around her was almost heavenly. Luckily, she’d gotten the idea when she saw one draped over the couch, and wasted no time in wrapping it around herself, letting out a content sound as she sunk back against the couch, completely cozy. “Three days was, like, the waiting period or something, I guess. “I think I’ve been down there enough!” She argued, shaking her head as she took the glass of ice water, wasting little time in sipping at it. It was nice to have a normal drink for a change. She’d always preferred them cold, and surviving meant giving up amenities like ice and chilled drinks.

“Trust me, I’m just as relieved. The last thing I needed was getting stuck with some asshole, or somebody that annoyed the shit out of me.” She chuckled. She could tell by the look on Eve’s face that she felt guilty defending her now ex-boyfriend. “Of course he was.” She said simply. “Otherwise, I doubt you would have stuck around. But he wasn’t good enough for you.” She pointed out. “You miss him?” She knew it was unhealthy, but it was only natural to miss the people you were used to being around, and Eve had been consumed by the boy and his control entirely at one point. Glass in her other hand, she followed behind Eve, shoulders visibly relaxing at the sight of the shower. “Would it be… absolutely ridiculous to like… shower to get clean, and then take a bath just to relax? I can’t even tell you how much I’ve missed bathing.”

“That doesn’t mean I’m not taking you there if you are sick or something” She pointed out, shaking her head in return with a small roll of her eyes. “Don’t drink it too fast you might upset your stomach” She warned.

“Well even if they had put me with someone else…it wouldve been a chance to make a new friend…I haven’t done that since Gideon.” She noted. Her circle of friends had always consisted of her exboyfriends friends, and they mostly ignored her unless they were drunk and trying to make a pass at her–something that in turn got her yelled at for encouraging it somehow. “I know it’s stupid…” She murmured, kicking at a stain the carpet as they stopped in front of the bathroom. “But he’s the only person I’ve ever dated.” She added before pushing the door to the bathroom open. “No I don’t think so..I would’ve done the same had I not been so exhausted.” She laughed softly. “You hop in and I’ll find you a towel and some clothes.”

“I have to check back in, in like a week. To make sure the infection is healing how it’s supposed to.” She wasn’t looking forward to going back, worried that they’d decide to keep her for a few days once again. She couldn’t help how restless she had been, held captive to bad health. “Okay, Mom.” She grinned.

“I’m sure you’re not the only one not rushing to make friends. This is a new situation for everyone, and I doubt I’m the only one that has seen some shit. People process on their own terms. I’m sure you’ll make friends, Eve.” She knew it probably didn’t help that she wasn’t really allowed friends of her own, while she was dating. “It’s not stupid. It’s habit.” Prue had always been logical. Even if she didn’t let emotions run her thoughts, she knew it was normal for most people to do so. She sat her glass on the bathroom counter, before turning on the water, b beginning to undress, deciding to drop her dirty clothes into the trash can. She’d been wearing the same thing for months. No number of rinse cycles could get those clean.

They just wanted to, like, keep a close watch on them. Make sure it wasn’t turning into something else.” She was sure she didn’t have explain what they were afraid of. “I’m fine, though. I’ve got some decent antibiotics on the job, and they had me on a drip-drop IV while I was down there.” She hoped that being honest with her would ease her mind a little. “I hid the best I could, but I wasn’t close when this happened. I had a long way to travel, and the only way to do it was by foot. The roads are like an obstacle coarse, even if you’re running.”

“Just some water would be fine. Even better if you’ve got ice.” She motioned. Sure, beer sounded like a good idea in theory, but she knew it wouldn’t be such a great choice given the dehydration. “Yeah, see?” She held out the little note she’d covered in different rooms, the names of her friends written alongside them. At the very top, it read: home - eve clifford. It was like somebody was watching out for them, on some degree. “You’re better off without him, Eve.” She commented bluntly, though she reached out to take the girl’s hand. “Nobody should have to live the way he made you.”

At the mention of Jackie, Prue couldn’t help but chuckle a little. The three of them had always been so close, but it wasn’t unlike Cassi and Prue to talk about the long haired brunette and her involvement with Fin. “He’s still a dipshit, from what I’ve gathered too.” She grinned. “Apparently he’s living with her?” Of course, Cassi already knew that. She just found it comical, herself. “I didn’t see her when I stopped by, but Fin’s still on his we’re friends kick.” She sat on the edge of the tub, wiggling her toes against the cold bathroom floor, before looking up at her friend. It was like she’d been punched in the gut. Was she even sure she’d heard her right? Orion wasn’t the type to date. He never had been. He made that much clear. “What happened?” She asked, her tone never faltering. She couldn’t show that it bothered her. It was easier to ignore it all together, and focus on Cassi’s engagement. “Did he… die?”

Pushing off the edge of the tub, she climbed inside, thankful to be greeted by warm water. “My God, that’s nice.” She all but moaned, pulling her hair back so the water could hit her body instead. She may have been feeling better, but anyone’s muscles would have ached after surviving on the streets for as long as she had.

“Yeah, apparently he asked to room with her,” Cassi rolled her eyes. “I wish they’d just stop playing house and get it over with already, but they’ve always been so damn stubborn it’s like arguing with a brick wall.” She grit her teeth as she watched Prue’s face morph at the news of Orion dating. “Caleb?” she snorted, a bitter sound. “I don’t know. Orion and I were separated, when this whole thing started. I could only take so much of that and wanted to go to him. Caleb didn’t want to leave.” she shrugged. “We fought for a few days, and then I left. And here we are,”

She stepped in the shower behind Prue, not really minding that she’d have to wait to use the warm water, if she got a chance at all. “It feels like heaven, right?”

“He failed to mention that part.” She knew it was probably for good reason. There was no way Prue could have heard something like that, and not picked fun at her brother. “They really can be hardheaded.” She chuckled, running her fingers through her hair as the warm water rained down against her. “Wa-” Her brows were furrowed, and she turned to face Cassi. “He didn’t go with you?” She was no expert on love or relationships, most of her own being short term flings or failed experiments, but she’d always imagined that a couple would stick together in a situation like this. It baffled her that Caleb had just let her leave on her own. “How’s she holding up?” She assumed that if Cassi wasn’t sure what kind of status Caleb’s life was in, that meant Jackie didn’t either. And they both knew the other girl could be sensitive to begin with, let alone in a situation like that.

“I managed to get a few rooftop showers, when it rained, but I almost forgot how comforting hot water was. It’s... fucking amazing.” She chuckled, leaning against the wall of the shower. “It’s crazy. The little things you don’t realize you’d miss so much.”

Not a zombie.” She joked, despite how serious she knew the situation had been. There was no point in not making light of it now, right? “Better question, are you okay?”

She stepped into the girl’s apartment, deciding to stand even though the furniture looked so inviting. “I’m absolutely filthy.” She explained, motioning at her clothes. “I wouldn’t mind like… a drink, though.” She knew she needed to stay hydrated, and she knew most homes had wooden kitchen chairs, or some sort of metal bar stools. Things that could be easily cleaned. “I’d kind of hope not. Especially since we’re living together.” She pointed out. It had been a random chance, random luck really, that she had been assigned that room, but it was a relief to know they wouldn’t be sharing it with her asshole of a boyfriend. “So, where is he?” She couldn’t help but ask. “Fin’s fine. That jackass managed to hurt his ankle, but other than that, he’s just fine.”

“Prue…” She frowned at how nonchalant that the girl seemed. She knew that it was how she always had been but with Eve as worried as she was she wanted to make sure that her cousin was actually okay. “I’m certainly glad for that.
