Guys seem to -for the most part- get the hang of skateboarding more easily than girls, is this true? Is it because they have a different body type? And are there any tips or tricks to counteract difficulties of skateboarding with different body types?
I think that if this is true (and Iâm not sure it is), that it probably wouldnât be due to body type. After all, thereâs so much variation in body type -within- men and -within- women, too!
I would guess that itâd be because boys are normally seen and encouraged to be more rough-and-tumble than girls, so falling, getting scraped up, etc. is considered totally normal. And boys learn that itâs normal too. Whereas girls are expected to see it as a failure instead of a natural part of learning a sport that, well, takes place on concrete.
Iâd say the biggest thing to do is just keep trying, and try to be analytical about your performance. What works and what doesnât, and why? What about your body positioning, movement, etc. made one outcome different from another? Donât (just) try to brute force your way through, think critically about your physical interaction with space and how to improve.
