(soa anon) What do you think Jax and Tara were like when they first started dating? Like in high school? I read a fic where Jax was written as this guy that slept around and Tara was a little high strung but I don't see them being like that.

I definitely do not see them as being that way because this is what Jax says about how their relationship was when they were younger

and Tara agrees

it’s also been repeated that he’s loved her since they were teenagers

and it’s been said/shown what the intensity of that love would lead them to do for each other

and Tara has said that him sleeping with other women would kill her

and we’ve seen her react to even the thought of him with other women

they’ve also said that the way their relationship was playing out in season 1 was like how it had played out when they were younger

So I think their relationship was what we saw onscreen but, like compounded by teenage hormones so even more intense, like there’s a goofiness to them that is probably underrated and I can definitely see that being more of the case when they were younger with that Jax charm

but I also just see it being like you-are-my-world type of thing

also kind of like biker royalty, poised to be the next Gemma and Clay

I mean Tara has a crow tattoo, she was committed

Gemma is so worried about how Jax behaves when Tara returns

that speaks to a level of devotion that they had to each other that she knew wouldn’t and hadn’t disappeared.

They were also having the same kind of fights --- Tara wanted to leave Charming, wanted Jax to get away from The Life and Jax wouldn’t go

and Gemma always hated that

so I can also see some really intense fights between Gemma and Jax about Jax breaking up (and refusing to) with Tara.

I will say that girls had probably been vying for Jax’s attention and Jax maybe, if not encouraged it then flirted with the boundaries of that

and Tara would get jealous

when Gemma tells her to fight Ima, it’s implied that Tara did fight girls over Jax when she was younger

and Jax probably liked that because when she’s standing off with Ima and he goes to stop it, he’s grinning

and then we’ve seen what she’s done when she does catch Jax cheating

that isn’t to say that Tara would always know if Jax cheated when they were younger, I doubt she knew about Wendy in season 1 and it’s not like Jax isn’t the type to cheat or to use women because he’s done both but I just don’t see that being their type of relationship then.

I just think it was, like I said, a super intense bond.

This writer really gets it. LOST, in the final end, is about Hurley. It’s not about “the mysteries,” or “what’s in the Hatch,” or “how does the Island work. As the writer says:

The night that the show ended, I offered by readers some advice should they want to rewatch, and it’s advice I extended to any first-timers: Follow Hurley. It’s as simple as that. In Hurley, “Lost” says everything it wants to about the proper perspective with which to behold life and to embrace your companions. Hurley wasn’t perfect by a long shot, but his unseen reign as Island Protector was probably presaged the moment he shared all of the hatch food with his fellow survivors rather than hoard it for himself. (*) You can draw an incredibly detailed timeline of the Island, but there’s only one thing you truly need to know about it: Its would-be inhabitants consistently coveted the Island, seeking to exploit it rather than allocate it. The Island’s protector, Jacob, was less of a god than a bored, semi-bemused man who didn’t have the imagination or insight to do anything with the incredible power he had. But in Hurley, “Lost” offered up a vision of how selfishness need not be the de facto response when power is offered. (Paragraphs and emphasis mine.)

(*) I’d argue that Hurley’s future was defined from the moment he offered Claire that extra airline dinner, and pretty much everything else he did in Season 1 to make people feel better.

So the next time someone wants to know, “What’s Lost really about?” there’s the answer.
