The other day, this girl I kind of know from the year below me approached me crying. He began talking about how terrified he was of coming out, how he only came to me because I’m openly trans and queer.

Now is a hard time for everyone in the queer community but we cannot overlook the fact that trans people are treated from both within and outside the community, especially now that in the UK these new laws may be passed.

I constantly think of that boy, his fear and sadness, and the fact that he, I, and an uncountable amount of others may never be treated the same as our cis friends.

tumblr users will proudly admit that they refuse to reblog from artists who put a little "reblogs > likes" on their art posts "out of spite" and then wonder why artists are leaving.

tumblr doesn't have an algorithm. a significant portion of this website doesn't check tags, they just follow people. the main way for artists to get recognition for their work is through reblogs.

reblog culture is dying and it's killing art communities.

if you like having artists on this platform you need to reblog the art posts that you like. when you don't artists feel like there's no point in posting their art here.... so they don't. they leave or they stop drawing/writing/etc.

so, if you like artists being on this platform you need to reblog their posts.

also bonus points if you add a little "I love this!" comment in the tags. it's encouraging to artists and tells them that their work is appreciated. it doesn't have to be complicated. it can even be a key smash. artists like creating more when they feel like they're supported for doing it.

it doesn't work that way. people like hearing positive feedback on their artwork. it gives you a hit of dopamine that "oh this thing I worked hours on is enjoyed by people." it makes you feel like the effort was worth it.

you're taking artist's work for granted. you enjoy their work but don't want to support them. then you wonder why they leave the platform.
